I visited this church first for a wedding rehearsal and then the actual wedding. It is pretty easy to get to with one way parking entry and exits, they have a nice garden and the bathrooms are located outside. The wedding coordinator was very flexible and thorough. I just realized I never wrote a review for the church I got married at. First I will say that I am not registered in their parish. I don't even live in the area. There are a lot of churches that will NOT let you even get married at their church unless you are registered with their parish. And if you want to, some make you go through hoops. In some cases like Olga from St Augustine's, they discourage you and push you away even when you are willing to do what it takes. So yes, I do know from experience obviously. I came to St. Michael's letting them know I was not registered in their parish nor was I even from the area. It was no problem! You have to take the marriage prep classes, but we did not have to take it there. We were allowed to take it in the parish we reside in over in San Jose. Now how convenient is that. So that went smoothly as well. We paid the usual fees, booked the usual dates, and well the rest is history. Now for those curious, this church will NOT let you select your own music. You cannot use any recorded music of any kind for walking down or exiting. This is usually the case with most churches, BUT I have personally been to a catholic wedding in one church that did allow recorded music. But if it is important to you to play a certain track, forget about it. This was in 2013, so maybe something has changed since then, but chances are you still can't. You are given a list of songs you can use. The wedding coordinator for the church will assist you through this process and also during the rehearsal. I forgot the name of our coordinator but she is stern, and she can be intimidating, with an all business approach, but you can tell after sometime with her she means well. The church itself is beautiful. Not super grand, but not plain. I would put it above average in terms of traditonal church stylings. Has lovely high ceilings with arches. There is plenty of parking, and the area is just always clean and quiet. There is an area towards the back of the church that your photographer can go up to for great coverage. Fr. Bob was the priest who married us and I was initially going into our interview with him intimidated but he was super nice. During the ceremony he wasn't boring. I really do wish he was still at this church so we can come and visit. He is no longer at this church. So overall, great church, had a perfect experience on my wedding, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Now I'm torn whether or not we go here to attend mass to bring back some memories, or go to the new church where Fr. Bob is at. read more

Attended a mass in St. Michael's one evening for a Holy Day of Obligation. Our first time visiting this church in Livermore. The parking lot is large, but it is difficult to see the lines which separate the parking spaces. The grounds and exterior of the church are nice. Interior of the church is lovely as well. i attended the mass with my service dog. she was well behaved, no one even noticed her aside from those seating next to us. she just sleep the entire time over. after the mass, the usher handing out the newsletter told me dogs are not allowed. i told him she is my service dog. he said it doesn't matter, dogs are not allowed. i was surprised and ask "really?" his reply is "yes, dogs are not allowed. the pastor is right there you can ask. dogs are not allowed. they'll make a mess". i just left. first, it's a violation of American Disability Act. second, wasn't it that Jesus was born surrounded by poo and pee of animals? if you have a service dog and you're trying to live independently, don't come here. if you're blind, trying to live independently, don't come here. read more

I was told at mass that the chapel is open 24/7 for prayer. I thought thou shall not lie was one of god's 10 commandments? I stopped by around 10 pm and the entire church was closed and there was no where for anyone to enter to practice prayer. Such a sad representation of the beautiful catholic religion. I went for a visit when visiting Livermore because it looked so pretty from outside, so Greek island flair...I could not resist. Inside is very sparse in decorations but floor is not the usual carpet which is a plus and everything seems very well curated and of high quality materials. I think I went to this church once or twice when I was a kid over 15 years ago! I was in the area with my mom on Saturday and we decided to come to vigil mass here. It looks way nicer than I remember, probably because I never really payed attention when I was a kid. I thought it was so cool how they have seating upstairs. This looks like an ideal place for a wedding! Hmmmm I may have to look into that for mine LOL Outside there's a beautiful shrine for the Blessed Mother in a glass case with gorgeous flowers around! I went here for my nephew wedding ceremony over the weekend (10/28). I was really impress on how nice this church is and how unique the architecture of the church. The staffs were very helpful and informative when I was at the mass. The priest who did the ceremony was really entertaining where he told us how he met the couple and how their views about each other's. I got to hear both sides of the couple story which was interesting since most ceremony don't really get into details about the couple personally. This church isn't too big nor too small. The choir was really good where it they performed well and my nephew and his wife were singing with the choirs. Parking here is not too bad if there is no parking you can park by the high school which is next door. Overall, it was great experience. Hopefully, I get a chance to come back to this church. read more

We were married at St. Michael's back in February and it was perfect. :D Because we wanted a 6 month engagement, we had to "shop" around for a church that would allow that if you weren't already registered there. You see, my husband and I don't go to just one church. We go to whichever church is nearest to us at the time. Because of this, we had to find one that would marry us without be registered. Thankfully, St. Michael's lifted that requirement. Likely because there are lots of visiting couples who want their reception at one of the nearby wineries. The process of finally signing up for a date was a little difficult. The lady at the front desk always speaks like she's in a rush so I felt bad calling to confirm things. I may have made it harder for myself because we wanted our college friend to marry us... so not only are we not registered there, we also wanted an outside priest to come in. Once we passed that hurdle and got our date and priest settled, it was smooth sailing. Barbara, the music director, was great to work with. We thought we'd have to use traditional classical music, but thankfully that wasn't so. They just don't want secular music used - which is understandable. I also appreciated how much thought she puts into the songs we use - they must follow the Catholic teachings... so not all Christian songs will pass. Gerri was our wedding coordinator and MAN! I'm definitely impressed with how organized she is! She had the names of EVERYONE in our wedding party memorized... We had a large wedding with sponsors and all and she knew their names without having to refer to her paper. Seriously, the wedding was seamless because of how organized Barbara and Gerri are. Gerrri had my dad open the door for me to walk down the aisle and had me just standing there in the back ... the way the sun shines in back there made for some perfect pictures (I'll post some later). They are strict on time since there's a Mass at 5pm (our ceremony was at 3) - so you have to be done with the ceremony and pictures by 430pm so that they can set up. Timing was tight since we had lots of pictures to take (one guy setting up actually yelled at us that we needed to leave). I didn't mind at the time, but I wish it wasn't so rushed.... at the same time, I know they have more important things to set up for (Mass). Just something to think about when planning the timing of anything. read more

I cannot say enough good about St. Michael's, its clergy, its staff and its parishioners. We appreciate Father Bob and Father Stahl, as well as Deacons Bill [x2] and Dave's complete commitment to the congregation, and the focus on the Gospels as guiding points in our lives. We also appreciate their willingness to be there for all of us throughout our sacraments, our needs, our life events, our sorrows and our joys. We also appreciate their continuous focus on the physical and spiritual needs of the greater world outside of St. Michael's via: Christmas gift programs, Prison ministries, Veterans ministries, food drives, clothing drives, backpacks for students, support for Scouting [boys and girls], their pairing with St. Vincent de Paul to feed the hungry on a weekly basis and to house the homeless - Basically to assist, whenever possible, the needy with hope, compassion, clothes, aid, heat, care, shelter and food for their body, mind and spirit. My husband and I got married here in June. St. Michael's is not my parish, my parish in Brentwood was booked for the entire summer. The wedding coordinator and music coordinator were great to work with. They mailed a nice folder of important information and check lists that were helpful in planning. The office staff were helpful in petitioning the bishop to be married, since my husband is not catholic, and in getting permission from my parish to be married there in Livermore. The rehearsal was a bit late and rushed because of the busy season, but the wedding day felt magical and went smoothly. It seemed expensive to get married there as a non-parishioner, but the church is beautiful and Father Carl was a nice officiant. We had our 5 yr old daughter baptized at St. Michael this morning and I just want to say how pleased I am with the entire experience. We have not been regular churchgoers for some time (although both my husband and I are Catholic) and when I started looking for a church a few years back to have my daughter baptized in, I was met with resistance, attitude, and a general unwelcoming feel when trying to contact area churches where I didn't regularly attend, which turned me off of the process for some time. But this feel didn't exist at St. Michael when I began looking again a few months back. They were nothing but completely welcoming throughout the entire baptismal process, and I was never made to feel bad or guilty for not attending church on a weekly basis. That didn't matter to them. All that mattered to St. Michael was that my child be baptized, as it should be. For that, I am extremely grateful. They have shown the true Catholic spirit to us and I thankful and happy to continue attending services at St. Michael in the future. Leonora is a gem and the old, historic church in downtown Livermore couldn't be more beautiful. I am forever thankful to have this wonderful church so close to my home. read more

My husband and I just got married here almost 2 weeks ago. I can say we were very lucky to find this place which is not only beautiful inside and out, but is also affordable! When I started researching in the Bay Area, all the affordable churches $1K (incl. ceremony & classes, etc.) and under were so shabby and depressing looking. Anything nicer were Cathedrals or fairly snobby places that didn't accept any couples that did not preside with that church. Then a miracle happened and I found this place. Service was okay - it took a long time to communicate with everyone.. because it's a church it's not the most high tech place for communication.. understandable. But the good: Engage Encounter Class - met up on the weekend with Scott and his wife. They are so wonderful and down to earth! Coming from a non-Catholic background (my husband is though), I did not feel intimidated or as if I was being pushed to convert. What they taught were basic enough that I could understand and relate to the concepts of marriage and family from any religion or background. What's best is my husband (then fiance) walked out of there and really tried to keep on doing those little things that they remind you to do on a daily basis to show appreciation :) The Ceremony - what a gorgeous place it is inside. It has a very beautiful, charming and understated elegance about it with the wooden floors, and clean peach colored dome wall. The isle is long, but made for a more dramatic entrance. The People - Father Bob warmed our hearts with a smile during the ceremony. Didn't know he had such humor in him, and his quaint whispers to my husband and I, that we had great tastes in style and to make sure to rest our feet by kneeling if we had to made us feel very special and reminded us to take in the moment. Can't wait to see pictures here. The bad: As mentioned everyone was nice except maybe a little slow in responding. The only other requirement that was unexpected was the music ministry class.. but as least we got to choose the songs we wanted. read more

I gave it a 5/5 because Michael is my favorite angel. I have given my opinion on what I have recieved from this parish while visiting on Sundays. I was taught all through my life on Sundays to "love thy neighbor" and it seemed strange that this parish had something different in mind. My experience with "gays" might be different than the priests' but rather than use the bible as a weapon, I will use it to bring everyone together. My experience from being here: On the other note, since coming to this church, I have found out father (curly hair with glasses) made a convincing speech "quoting the pope" before hand (which we all know a quote in the very first sentence of a speech is best to twist the meaning). "He spoke about how the corrupted homosexuals are the cause of people leaving the church" (not about how people enter a house of peace just to wage war with the rainbows that have weaponized dildos) Today I found that the current priest's speech was about how we should put our faith before gays, not lending a hand to those in need, and instead referring it to politics and how "the bible is PRO Trump" read more

If you want to worship God then come to this beautiful house of God. If you are going to Church to see how funny the pastor is, or see a good band, or want a great coffee shop in the building, go to that other church in town. This is a place to worship God, to give your love to him. There is no prosperity gospel preached here, God in the eyes of this Church is not a vending machine to your wants. When you walk into this Church you know you are in God's house, and that is how a Church should make you feel. read more

The church is beautiful; hence the two stars. The rest of my experience was very disappointing. I am writing this review to help the church take into consideration some things. The review is for Spanish mass for a baptism that we had this past Sunday. We were required to attend classes with the godparents which was expected. What was also expected was a step by step guide of the actual day; this was never provided. Upon arrival of the mass there was an older lady telling us where to go very rushed. I had never seen her before and she kept whispering to us to go outside to wait for the priest. It was freezing out there and the priest took another twenty minutes to arrive. A baby having to wait outside in the cold is unacceptable. We were to proceed inside with him but first he read a passage from the Bible and anointed my daughter (still in the cold) and all the other children. Also, I was lead to believe this would be a private mass. It's fine if it wasn't but the way they explained it led us to believe we would be the only ones there therefore leading to a longer mass. My point is that a little more guidance and communication can go a long way. It felt like the priest just baptized my daughter and the other children as an extra part to his mass instead of making it special for them becoming new members of Catholicism. He was not very loving or welcoming as I had hoped. If I could do this over I really would not choose St Michaels. read more

A beautiful parish with many types of ministries available. You can participate as much or as little as you can. We made some great friends here by getting involved. The grief support ministry helped us when my in-laws died. St Vincent de Paul gives food out to the needy during the week. Best of all, they offer a Latin mass, Vietnamese mass, or Filipino/Tagalog mass once a month, as well as Spanish every week! Something for everyone! It's a lovely parish community! read more

More like 3.5 stars. I have been to more Catholic churches that I can count all over California. The mass is standard and can run a bit long (usually 65-70 mins). As with all masses certain priests deliver better homilies than others. I do like the option to attend the children's mass so that my kids can get some religious education delivered at their understanding level. I really enjoy the church- it has a beautiful courtyard and the vegetation is always well manicured. I also enjoy the old feel of the building and decor. read more

I started going to this church 4 years ago after I moved to Livermore. I used to love this church. It is always beautiful and I used to love attending mass. My son was even baptised at this church. But right after he was baptised here I learned how different it is from the church I used to attend. It was election season and President Obama had confirmed his support for gays. Well the week of election I attended mass as usual but this time mass was different. I was acctually handed a piece of paper and was told how to vote. That I should vote based on Catholic belief and any one who believes in gay rights is against Catholic belief. I was shocked and embarresed for the church. What if there was a gay person attending church. How would they feel to know they are not accepted in their own community. Being a Catholic I of course know that being gay does not fit into the Catholic belief, but Our Lady of Grace, the church I had attended my whole life, avoided the gay topic and never made anyone feel as if they did not belong. I had heard of other churches praying for whoever is elected to help the USA grow, but never who to vote for. Now I only attend this church on days I cant make it to Our Lady of Grace. My son is going to be attending a Catholic School but it wont be this one. We will enroll him in Our Lady of Grace and have to go out of our way to Castro Valley daily once he starts attending school. I know this happened a while ago, but I guess I am still just so disapointed and shocked by it. read more

There are so many ministries to be involved in at this parish. And having the school right here is an added blessing. Truely a place of God. read more

I'm only giving this church a 5 star review because it is one of the most beautiful I have been to. I wouldn't expect a simple parish church to look so stunning. I have only been there twice: once for a funeral and the other time for a wedding. The priest that looks like Santa Claus (sorry Father, I don't know your name...but the kids at the funeral you were presiding said you looked like Santa) was amazing and truly a Godly priest. I've lived in the area for over 30 years and have attended services in many churches in the area both Catholic and other denominations but have always returned to St Michael's as my 1st choice. It's the one place I've always felt that connection to God! A place that feels, acts and treats everyone as if they are in God's house. read more

I'm so surprised with the rudeness I received of an administrator by the name of Jamie today. I was inquiring about Marrying there and was told that it could not be done because I did not belong with there Parish and had to go to my local Parish and permission from the Priest at my local church was needed, alot of paperwork was going to be given for us to sign, and that there should be a certain way and certain fashion to plan a Wedding. Wow!! 1st no one with that attitude should be working at a Catholic Church! 2nd No one, and no Church should make it difficult to marry two Catholic people in Love, and 3rd God does not deny no one why should you. This is sad and has made me believe that this is why certain people change there beliefs and religion. I will pray for you Ms. Administrator Jainie and St. Michaels that you will not ever get turned away from our Savior Jesus Christ. God help you and bless you... read more

dont do it! my daughter had her wedding here this past may, and it was a nightmare...not only was the woman who coordinated everything unbelievably rude, which would have been ok if she got things right (she didnt), but the priest never showed up!! how does that happen? thirty minutes after we arrive at the church, the coordinater comes to us and says that they cant find the priest.....WHAT?!? please correct me if im wrong here, but im sorry, it seems to me that the only even remotely acceptable excuses are 1) jail, or 2) hospital. and jail shouldnt really be an option, either. to this day we have not received any sort of explanation, although they did refund my daughters "donation" without even being asked.......small comfort, on this day of days for my daughter......so 45 minutes after the ceremony was scheduled to begin, a deacon shows up to perform a ceremony that he has never before performed, for two people whose names he didnt even know. poor guy, he did ok for what it was, but my daughter and her fiancee deserved so much better. and to top things off, the wedding pictures that should have been taken in the church couldnt be taken because the church was booked for another occasion a half hour later.....just unbelievable, all of it. i strongly recommend that you find another church. , read more
