Carolyn was my fourth hire…read more Never once did I find a lawyer that had the bedside manner, the legal smarts, the organization (including regular billing cycles and consistent/timely communication), the will to fight for you and have your back -- basic things that one wants/needs in a lawyer and Carolyn was no exception. Why lawyers think it is okay to ignore clients and let calls and emails go unanswered just floors me. When I brought up the issue, Carolyn said that my mistake was in not copying Melissa, her assistant. But the issue still persisted even when I copied her. Surprisingly, what Carolyn confessed was that she wants to work with clients where the children will feel the direct impact of her service in a positive way. She wants to be in the courtroom. This is admirable, but everything else, (and most of family law is the infuriating back and forth negotiating and mind numbing calculation and modifications) she puts off as a low priority. When I asked her to explain legal terms to me, either she did not want to or she did not know how to. She made me feel like I was stupid and stubborn and foolish for not taking her advice. She did not refute false information that my ex submitted in legal documents. She overcharged me. Had I not kept meticulous records of my calls and emails with her, I would have missed her overcharging me by $8000. Bananas! Ultimately, she did not have my back. Does Carolyn know the law and understand the family court and differing styles of the judges? I guess so. But that's it. She is cold. She is impatient.
