I started my own business and have done well for 40+ years. As to the fact that it is an "all boys school" that simply meant, less distractions. Sports are huge at Saints and a big part of most students life, from watching to participating. Worth the money? I would say definitely YES! I got called slurs on a daily bases multiple times a day by many different kids. I was bullied so relentlessly that i couldn't even make it past November Break my 10th grade year and that was after wanting to leave the school 2 weeks into my 9th grade year. I had one friend who watched someone come up to me and say that i should go to bible study group so that they can "fix my problem" referring to the fact that I'm gay and then that friend brought me to that bible study group where they tried and failed to convert me. After this I only had two or three friends out of the whole school who didn't betray me the rest of my time there There were many other worse things that happened at this school that I will get into during therapy but not a yelp review I HIGHLY suggest that if your child is not a football playing asshole then DO NOT send them here ESPECIALLY if they are queer or different in anyway cause they will picked on until they can't take it anymore! Leaving this school was the best decision I've ever made for myself, my mental health, and all over well being as a person. The teachers I had were the only good part of this school and I will stand by that till I die. I highly suggest rethinking this school if its on your list to check out!

My son is bright, yet he fell behind when he started a new school. We moved and he had to start…read morehigh school in a different area. He moved from the traditional schedule to the year round. So, he started his new school in the middle of the school semester. He started his new high school year behind from the start. They placed him in a cram course that allowed him to catch up. When he caught up, they threw him in regular classes and he became frustrated. From then on he had some difficulties adjusting to his new school. I called the counselor and also spoke to the Asst. Principal for help. I never had the chance to meet with the principal, because he was always at a meeting. They gave me the run around. My son asked me for help, and I tried to get the help from the school. No one would listen. This was at San Ysidro High School. It was a brand new school at the time, yet the staff was terrible. I tried to transfer him to a different school, but could not. So, my family decided to move out of Southbay. His new school was San Diego High School. But, this school was now in session. I figured he would fall behind again and go the same path as he did at San Ysidro. So, I found San Diego Charter School of San Diego. Our plan was to have him catch up in credits and attend San Diego High School for the next year. Anyways, It was an independent study program, but you also attend 4 hours a day in a classroom in Horton Plaza. My son was catching up. He was doing well, until his teacher misplaced his homework file. The teacher asked him to do 3 classes over again. My son became frustrated again. I became frustrated. My son regressed from then on. He lost interest in school and stopped trying. He had no motivation and asked if he could drop out. He wanted to wait until he turned 18 and go for his GED. I made an appointment to meet with the counselor and she never called back. I called his teacher and found out that he quit on the spot. I found out that my son had no teacher for a while and the help were the teacher assistants. SO, I went on my school search again. I met a really great counselor at San Diego High School. He told me that my son could start second semester, but would be behind. He then mentioned Garfield High School. I looked it up on the internet. But, I found this young mans profile, instead. It was a brief bio of his life. He was a very smart kid, but got lost in the school system. He wrote that he found Garfield High School's Oracle Program. He stated that his life changed after that and now he is working on his Masters Degree in Psychology. This was inspiring. I decided to search for this school. I called Garfield High School. They told me about Oracle. My son had to pass a placement test. He passed and was accepted to the program. He started his senior year, but only had the same amount of credits as a sophmore. He started the school a little depressed. To make a long story short, his teacher is excellent. She will not give up on the kids here. My son is now only a semester behind in graduating. He is motivated and his self esteem is higher than before. He is looking into college now, rather than the GED. He has had some rough times and struggled, but his teacher never stopped pushing him. She saw his potential and she continues to keep her faith in him. I am so grateful that she came into his life and that this Oracle program exists. Everyone there is nice and the receptionist is great too. I cannot say anything negative about this school. It is the best thing that happened to my son. It helped me too! Mrs. Brisky is her name! The greatest teacher that my son has ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!! She listened to me and she listened to my son. She never ignored us and made sure that he would get back on track!!!! If you have a child in high school that is struggling, please look into this school. This is a great place for a high school teen that needs the extra push and would enjoy a non-traditional school. You work at your own pace, but at the same time have a deadline. There is independence, you can work at home, but you can also go on campus for more structure. Beside one or two teachers I was very disappointed in how some of them handled situations. I hardly had any communication with any of his teachers regardless how many times I reached out to find out assignments or any thing regarding my child's education! Also your child will not be able to attend any dances or have a chance at extra "special events" if they have an I in any class. I think it's absolutely ridiculous and separates the "good kids from the bad kids!" This is how my child felt! You do not treat children this way and exclude them from events with their friends. Middle school is hard enough. I will not name the teachers names but I've had to help my child with certain classes because the teacher refused to help let alone teach them! Some homework that was brought home was not discussed in class, and lots of assignments making my child feel overwhelmed. It was a constant fight every night because my child was mentally drained! I have read reviews about Dana and heard by a number of people who have attended there or had their child go there that this place is a mess! I also agree! I'm so glad to be almost done with this school! I can't count how many times my child came home upset from that school and because of its TEACHERS! Good luck if your child has to go here. Sacred Heart Parish School. Oh boy... Where to begin?…read more I attended SHPS from 4th to 7th grade in the early 2000s and it definitely left a mark, but not in a positive way. My family moved to the U.S. from Mexico and SHPS was very accommodating in accepting me at such a late stage of the admissions process (although, looking back on it, the admissions "test" wasn't exactly difficult, considering I took it right there and then and passed it on the spot). I will admit that the first year was great; made several friends, the events the school held were great (my favorites being the Blessing of the Animals and the Lady of Guadalupe carnival), and even the hot lunches served twice a week were the coolest thing I had ever experienced (not something you normally saw in Mexico, much less nowadays with all the fuzz going on about healthy school lunches). The problems started when I was in 5th grade. Like any young boy, I started getting into trouble because of a myriad of shenanigans. This wouldn't have been anything out of the ordinary if it hadn't been for the fact that the principal, who no longer works there (thankfully), seemed to have made it his mission to expel me. I came to know the principal's office better than my own homeroom. I should also mention that I had a friend who would participate in whatever shenanigans I got myself into, meaning that he was EQUALLY guilty. However, the principal didn't seem to think so. Oh, and by the way, my friend was Caucasian. So, the Hispanic boy is the guilty one, but the Caucasian one isn't, even though they both engaged in the same type of shenanigans. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I gave a girl I had a crush on a little notebook that said 'I Love You' on the cover. For some reason, the girl's parents thought this kind of gift was pure blasphemy, because the principal quickly jumped on the bandwagon of calling it "sexual harassment." It seems this gave him enough justification to expel me. I don't know why my parents insisted on me remaining at SHPS, but for some reason, I was allowed back into the school on the condition that I see a psychologist during the summer. I felt like I was on probation during 7th grade and it must've been clear to my parents as well because I had to switch schools a year before starting high school sine it seemed like the principal was going to expel me again if I even so much as sneezed the wrong way. This was almost 20 years ago, and the fact that the principal no longer works there is one good thing the school has going for it, but I can't say for sure if his replacement is any better. If something like this were to happen today, the school would be drowning in lawsuits. SHPS did not hesitate to use the rod.

Many teachers were insensitive, aloof, ignorant about trauma informed teaching and would not implement support needed to succeed in school, despot the IEPs. Was a single mom and was not rich, so couldn't fight the system, nor did I have time, while I was working and putting self through nursing school and managing a physically I'll child and a mentally ill child. I Moved to SD for work- and researched schools so my youngest child could succeed in high school. I study trauma and how it prevents learning. So I wanted a school that was culturally sensitive and the teaches are mindful of the various background and situations the children came from. What a blessing E3 is. My youngest child of my 3 kids LOVES ALL the teachers and looks forward to going to school for once. I observed student:-teacher interactions at the back to school night and noticed that all teacher we met have an element of care, compassion, and are vested in student success. They treat students with respect and they were genuinely friendly with the students. Throughout the years there was one great teacher here and there that my kids would get. But it was a gamble and some school years were horrible, some years were full of learning. However, at E3 - ALL of my child's teachers are amazing, knowledgeable, and foster a relationships with him. It was endearing to watch the teacher-student interaction with other students as well- these students trusted and actually enjoyed the teachers. E3 has free tutoring included with school if your child needs it. I did not have the finances to pay for tutoring when my older children were in high school. So, one of my children barely graduated. They experienced traumatic experiences from teachers, teacher assistants giving answers when "helping" a child with tests (found out after a course of years). It was horrible. - E3 is a newer school that has the frame work to educate students and model emotionally healthy interactions so they are successful in life. Highly recommended. Put your child on the list.
