Thank goodness for Career Transition for Dancers!…read more I never thought of reviewing them until Tuesday night after attending an event about "Keeping Dancers on Their Feet", hosted by the Cedar-Sinai/USC Dance Medicine Center! Such useful information! This is an amazing resource! They provide: *Career Counseling *Educational and Entrepreneurial Grants *On Line Career Resources *Computer literacy instructions .......and much more. ALL FREE OF CHARGE I had the great fortune to find CTFD when I had no clue what to do, after a serious injury made it almost impossible to continue my career as a professional dancer. I took full advantage of their free career counseling, workshops, and computer classes way back in 2001. When I first came to CTFD I was still baffled with the idea that I was soon going to be faced with a future that did not include dance as being my sole financial support and my identity. I had many people trying to convince me to go to culinary school or to go to school to be a sommelier, but it didn't seem to fit into my ideal picture of my future. I also had no desire to "sacrifice" to get the education for either of those careers. I decided to check out the career counseling that was available to dancers who were in transition. Thanks to the guidance of Paulette Fried, and the many programs offered at CTFD I was able to set my top 3 priorities in order. 1. I wanted to get paid to sweat and stay in shape. 2. I did not want to have to wear shoes to work. 3. I wanted to eat and drink with abandon while enjoying many adventures. Paulette was very supportive of my unusual priorities. Instead of applying for a grant "back in the day", I chose to set off to pursue a passionately active lifestyle and find my bliss with the support and encouragement of everyone at CTFD. I have come full circle with CTFD. At the going away party for Paulette Fried, I had realized that I was finally living my top 3 priorities. 1. I get paid to sweat while motivating others to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. 2. "We Do it Barefoot" in all of my classes and most of my Personal Training Session...I sometimes forget to put shoes on in the morning! 3. My active, adventurous, and healthy lifestyle enables me to enjoy what I eat-guilt free. And 99% of my clients are "foodies" so I get many perks at fine restaurants along with receiving "wine bonuses" from some of my clients when they reach their goals. The school helped me to regain my confidence because of the simplicity of the work they do. It is not easy, but it is very simple! All based on using the truth of who you are and what you are feeling in the moment applied to the script you have in hand. And, so... let the magic be revealed. Wow, such an upgrade on their former Melrose Ave location. This bespoke facility is bang smack in #Hollywood- you can see the sign- and surrounded by Studios' studios- which gets the blood going! The streets around here are quiet & great for #skateboarding and it's on good bus routes too. I'm intending to really up-the-ante on my #acting experience, auditions, training & to 'Book the fu*King job' (as Mr Meindl says in his book, one of a number!), in 2022. In 2021, I so loved being surrounded by (transmasc) #actors on our retreat with @michaeldcohen. Now I'm hungry to train weekly. The theatre studio space here is GREAT! I want in! There's some nice communal spaces too to hang and get to make new friends. Background..
