After taking Terry Berland's online class last month, I can honestly suggest this wasn't worth the money. I've taken a few courses from different people and this one had some serious issues. If you live in Los Angeles or New York City, you will immediately recognize this class is full of out of town people who take much of her time. The virus has changed things and she might be a casting director back in the day, but at this point, in my opinion, her information doesn't always match well to what is needed for really getting a job as a commercial actor in today's world. Like right now... Out of CA folks can't necessarily tell the information is sometimes dated because they won't actually be auditioning right away. If you live and work in Hollywood (or NYC) you might immediately recognize things that are not what is being suggested elsewhere - like how she suggests to slate, her directions on scripts, how her activities just jump around without purpose of types of commercials, etc. The info doesn't always connect with today's environment so you go in to an audition thinking one thing and sometimes it's actually something entirely different or sometimes not applicable at all. So disappointing! The biggest issue I had with this class is she didn't offer what I have found in other classes: a safe space to perform. I felt uncomfortable because she was pretty clear that she disliked several students at the beginning and she made comments to them critically in what seemed to be every class. I just dreaded hearing their names called. It was awful to watch, even if they did ok, and made it uncomfortable for me to be called. She is hard on everyone as after all, she is a casting director, but it was obvious she just really didn't like them. And of course, at the end Terry asks everyone to post their review online. She is always looking for more students. Before you decide on this course, go over to the 'Tube and search Commercial acting classes within the past 3 months. Then after watching all that, consider a class. Maybe Terry is your person. If you live out of LA, this class is a dip your toes in the water introduction and probably perfect for you. If you live in Hollywood, it's not going to offer much in your pursuit to find commercial work. In fact, in my opinion, it doesn't offer much of anything at all. read more

The classes are small, 10 students, and everyone gets plenty of opportunities to practice. Solid class. This class is truly designed to help the actor succeed. It was the opportunity of a lifetime getting to interview the agents and pick their brains, so to speak. An intimate and supportive environment with your fellow actors. At six weeks, and a gap week, the class did seem to drag on a little bit. By the time it was over we had all bonded; it was an enjoyable experience. Terry helped me to remember why I love acting and knows what to do to bring out your fun performer's side. Although it is open to all levels, I feel that true beginners will get the most out of it. They showed the most growth, in my opinion, and received the most constructive feedback.
