This was a fun interactive time, that went by really quick…read more There is minimal staff here, 2 at the register and 1 person at the bar. I loved the drink while you art concept and definitely got a drink, which was a good amount of tasty and strong. By far we all loved the first lighting art display the best. The kiddos loved running through it, the changing lights and the music. The other exhibits were less interactive. We enjoyed them as adults, however, the kiddos passed through most of them without interest. The selection was good, but we craved more once we got to the end. I was able to make my drink last the entire time we were there. That being said, the adult prices were fair, however I would not charge children under 12. Overall we had a great time escaping the Texas heat. So if you're looking for a nice adult escape I recommend this thoughtful art space.

I liked the Submergence exhibit since it had many pretty glowing lights that hung from the ceiling. Great for pictures and videos. Some other exhibits were engaging with movements too. It really involves your various senses with multiple sounds, sights, and things you can touch. You can view at your own pace and no one rushes you. It took us around 2-3 hours to go through everything. There's a wide selection of different installations, so I feel like it's worth the $25 value. There is also a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy. Book your tickets in advance as they have limited spots per time slot so it is not cramped. There's a kiosk near the entrance to check in and then they will help you get started at the front desk. Lots of free parking in front of the building. What a unique and chill place to bring the family. They really are spaces filled with wonder. They do rotate out the exhibits periodically, so there's always more to see. Overall a great experience and I look forward to coming back to see new installations!

I would first like to say that I do an internship here. Because of this, I will have some bias but…read moreI will keep this as objective as I can. I am an artist and have several national and international art shows to my credit. I have also been listed as one of Photographer's Forum top student photographer for 2017. One of the things I see other artists overlooking time and time again is good mounting and framing. I have seen people put work that they have spent dozens of hours on in a $10 Hobby Lobby frame for a show. One of the best things you can do for your art is quality framing and AA&F is one of the best places around. I have worked with a few of the framing shops around here and many more in other parts of the country. From interning there I have seen their ability to build just about anything that people can think up. Both Dan and Melissa are artists and that makes a huge difference when working with somebody on framing. They listen well and use their years of experience to elevate the work whether that means for the frame to get out of the way and disappear or become a part of the artwork itself. They pride themselves in the details and treat all the artwork they are working on as if it was their own work. Like I said they can custom make just about anything and they also have a large selection of ready-made frames. They have one of the largest selection of moldings and glass/acrylic options I have seen. The gallery is also beautiful with many local artists represented. They can also install work in the Austin area.

They did a great job framing my art. very happy! I thought their prices were reasonable also.read more

Thoroughly professional. Scarily tempting…read more I've had a surprising number of articles framed by Tom and the attentive staffers at Artworks, personal items and also prints, photographs and art in my capacity running a briefing center at Tivoli and they have never disappointed. They even shadow-boxed and framed my old license plate without batting an eyelash. The framing is done artfully, stylishly, quickly and always ready on time. The suggested colors for matting and molding are always pleasing to the eye, and the end result is an article that looks just as it should on any wall. There is a complete restoration department as well, for old photos or paintings that need a little TLC. Their framing work is not inexpensive, but it is always perfect and worth it. But the gallery of art and artisanal crafts which comprises the well-lit space on West 6th is killing me. It's impossibly beautiful stuff, and increasingly hard to get out of there without spending a small fortune. There is even a room full of art deco and period barware. Crystal, blown glass, woodcraft, metal sculpture, mirrors, art glass--carefully chosen and curated, it's like a museum of fine craftwork and I hate it--it's that good. The nefarious plan has you in the store, waiting for a few minutes as your framed work is produced from out back when something, invariably catches your eye. Damn. I'm wise to you Artworks. I'm keeping my shades on and staring at the wall of frame samples and leaving with my wallet intact.

I love this place! I finally stopped in after a Whole Foods bacon run (3 lbs of thickest-cut…read moreApplewood, baby) to find that Artworks still has fantastic collections of stemware and some barware, as well as reasonably-priced, interesting art, in a sunny, beautiful room. I remember first coming here in the late 90's to frame an etching from my trip to Venice and receiving a student discount. At their suggestion, it was framed between two panes of glass to excellent effect, not something I'd have considered myself. Today I nearly bought a gorgeous snifter for $36, or a set of cordial glasses from the 40's for about the same. I'll be back when I have a larger apartment -- and when I again drink alcohol. I've uploaded a photo of the bronze shelf-fish I bought here over 10 years ago.
