It was a…read morerare thing, it's a difficult to describe culture among the faculty, but I'll do my best- an anecdote: two students steal from the school, they take thousands of dollars worth of video equipment. They get caught- now, in a normal school where students are payroll numbers, the school could have easily justified dismissing both students and even gained face for it. I'm certain they considered it to, but it's not a huge school, even the secretaries knew my name and asked me about my family when I needed to pick up some class registration form or whatnot. These two students had been going there since sixth grade, they weren't bad kids- they just got caught up in the moment and they let the thrill of what they were doing cloud their judgment. They just needed someone to put them back on the straight and narrow- so instead of dropping down like a ton of bricks they gave them the opportunity to come clean to their fellow students! What a concept- because that necessitates that the student body have a conscience and love the school, otherwise they would pat them on the back, and it also necessitates that the student body be forgiving else these two would be ostracized. They did come clean to the student body, returned everything, the school pressed no charges, and the incident was never put on their record. Now they both attend respectable 4-year universities. The capacity for mercy from a large entity is almost nonexistent it seems, a mom and pop steak house can let a guy who left his wallet in a cab come back the next day and pay, a huge lumbering chain never would. This is a school that upholds its values. Also the student-Teacher ratio is awesome and the English teachers have a bit of a Dead Poets society thing going on where they discuss literature freely with students/other teachers during lunch or after school. The math teachers are downright sassy and hilarious individuals. Overall it was an excellent experience and I feel that I was bettered greatly by it.

We have a young niece in MBCS but we are uncertain if MVCS will be as good as it used to be. Hopeful but uncertain. Why? Because our younger son kept in touch with friends still there and have received some unfavorable reports, especially about a two year college credit program called I think IB (?) which has been with problems. And the problems have shown up in decrease in student population. Beautiful campus. We hope reforms improve things at MVCS so we can send our niece there when she is ready for high school. In three years, my son has gained more and more limb independence and the ability to play quite complicated rock grooves. Cole is also so open to supporting whatever kind of music the student is interested in, whether it's rock, musical theater, or even music from a video game. Special shoutout to Cole for transitioning to FaceTime lessons during the pandemic and always being flexible about scheduling when wrinkles come up.

Within 2 lessons she had down some basic skills and within 4 she has some basic drum beats that she can sustain! She totally shows off for friends and family! He was super reliable, made it fun and talked to her level without dumbing it down. And he has been super patient. He even recognized that she was not quite ready to be hardcore about practicing, and recommended we keep it fun for her, take breaks from lessons when we need to, and she'll come back to it. (Who does that?!) He's super reasonably priced, totally worth it, and just a cool down to earth guy. Cole even got a 40 something mom with no music background (that's me) to throw down a basic rock beat on the drums. I'd recommend him for kids just learning, for serious musicians wanting to go the next level or needing to work out some kinks, or even adults new to drums but wanting to channel their inner rock star. He's got skills.

When I asked about purchasing a local cider they carried I was given directions to the maker, what time they opened, and who I should talk to when I get there. Now that's going above and beyond. There was a nice variety of drinks and they were delicious. I loved the layout of the venue very intimate with the stage but still tons of standing room and if you didn't want to be inside with the crowd there was a tv with the ample outside seating where you could watch the band. The bathrooms were very spacious and super clean. The little taco stand in the back was perfect too. The tacos were delicious. I wish we had a place just like Moe's in Sacramento . I will definitely come to Moe's again next time in town.

I've seen every band in the world, and GBA are the best. Their music is infectious, like a sonic virus that penetrates the auditory cortex and sets up standing waves of bliss and intrigue, and which also penetrates the motor cortex and sets your feet on autopilot. They find the dirtiest nastiest funkiest grooves with just the right amount of dissonance to keep you hooked, like an itch that you can only partially scratch. In addition to their own vulgar grooves, they pay homage to artists ranging from Gary Bartz, Gil Scott-Heron, and Michael Jackson to Burt Bacharach/Hal David and George Harrison. And they've been at this for over 30 years now - yet you look at them playing and they are constantly laughing and joking with each other. Somehow they still seem to love playing with each other, and that energy comes across to the audience at every show. This might be their hidden superpower - the love the 5 of them have somehow held onto for doing this together all this time.
