We stopped by here as they were the most legit looking coffee place near where we were staying in Halifax. Upon arrival, we were the only customers there, but they had just opened. Please note that their hours on Yelp say 6am - 10am, but it's really 7:30am - 6pm Mon. - Sat., and 8:30am - 4pm on Sun. They have a fairly large space inside and it's very modern looking and clean. There were 3 ladies working behind the coffee bar, and they all seemed very nice and customer-service oriented. I ordered a 12 oz pumpkin spice latte with almond milk and it was over $7, which I thought was a bit pricey, therefore the 4 stars instead of 5. food and drinks are good, and decently priced. the atmosphere is mostly nice, although there's a male barista there (perhaps a manager?) who is mean to other staff, and it's a little hard to watch. i've only had good experiences with the service/servers, so there really isn't a need to make them feel bad in front of all the customers. otherwise a good stop to get a drink or sit and chat with friends. i get the matcha all the time! read more

THE AVOCADO BAGEL SANDWICH! I need not say more. This sandwich was outta the world. I added spicy peppers for 50 cents more and it gave it the perfect kick. Fresh sliced avocado on a toasted sesame bagel. You get the choice of chicken, black bean mix or egg. I chose the black bean mix to go in the sandwich and it was sooo good and flavourful. The sandwich had sprouts too. After that first delightful sandwich, I decided to get another. The chicken salad sandwich on ciabatta. Fluffy ciabatta bread with avocado and chicken salad (but not your typical chunks of chicken mixed with mayo, not at all! It's got cranberries and is in some orange sauce. Whatever it was, it was really tasty). Each sandwich comes out to about $7-8 including tax. Well worth it in my opinion!! You can tell the ingredients are fresh. Oh I should mention the coffee and espresso too cause after all this is a cafe. All I can say is that they take their coffee seriously! They have tasting sessions and stuff you can sign up for. They make their beverages using cool equipment to draw out more of the beans' flavour. You can tell I don't know much about the whole coffee making process but I can tell you it's good and these folks definitely know what they're doing. I love that they have all the different options for milk which you can get for an additional 50 cents. Including almond and even oat milk! I watched them take the carton of oat milk out and it was the sofresh brand which I looooooooove. Side plug. Sofresh oat milk is the best. They also have GLUTEN FREE options for the sandwiches for an extra $2. Finally - the staff here are so friendly. There's a reason why I've been going there on repeat since they opened! It was a happy accident that I discovered it at all, as I meant to walk into the door for Noggins, next door. Life had other plans for me! The owners, managers and staff are always fantastic! The coffee's incredible, whether you order it brewed, as a pour over, from their espresso or smoothie menu. This is an interesting one. I'll say that they make unbelievable coffee and espresso. I have no problem paying a little extra for this quality. Their hot beverages are all on point and that's what this place is about. Having said that... first time I went, the breakfast sandwich BLEW ME AWAY. There was a delicious sauce on it, excellent tomatoes, a bagel like I have never tried. It was so good. I have been back for breakfast sandwiches at least 4 times since. It just got worse and worse. The last one I had was sooo plain. Of course, that's not what this place is known for. But consistency is key. read more

I like this place. I do I'm glad to have it in the neighborhood. But I'm not sure where the tasting room part comes in. Possibly I just don't understand the menu or I'm missing something, but so far I've only seen medium and dark roast and espresso. I enjoy the atmosphere and think the staff are super friendly. Prices are very reasonable and all the treats and food look divine. Coffee is ok. I have found the dark roast to not be amazing, although blended and roasted by java blend. When I go to Java blend I love their coffee when I have it at other shops I don't seem to enjoy it as much. I found it very astringent and somewhat bitter. The espresso was almost metallic in taste which left me to leave almost half of it. I see that they have various methods of brewing, which is great. I like my coffee a particular way! However, they charge more for a French Press of Chemex? This is where I'm confused or may be reading the.menu wrong. Also I don't see where there are different types of coffee. I was excited to come here to find some single origins and explore the world of coffee, but I don't see the option. I see a lot of fanciness and bells and whistles but that's it. This is my tentative review. I feel like fourth times a charm and maybe I'll start asking the staff some questions! I know with being in bedford the crowd can be very boring, they want coffee and don't really care what coffee...so maybe this is the crowd catered too and those of us nerds have to ask? I don't LOVE many places, but this one is AWESOME. Funny how I found this - Stuck in a ridiculous line at Logan airport trying to catch my flight when a Halifax couple and I struck up a conversation. I was saying how much I love the artisanal nature of Halifax and mentioned Luck Penny Coffee Co. on Quinpool. The wife asks if I know where Hammond Plains is and raves about this coffee place. When I stop by, I told the person at the counter this story and she calls over the owner Joe. Talk about passion. we geeked out for about a half hour talking about techniques grind sizes and optimal roasts. Then he made me a couple pour over samples. This guy is great. I left with Guatemalan Huehuetenango for my AeroPress (pulled a tasty one this morning - thanks) and a new fave! read more

My wife and I love coffee to no ends. So much so that we have an Italian La Speciale semi automatic machine that rivals many professional coffee shops. We are picky where we buy beans and our favorite places in the city were always the Smiling Goat and Java Blend but we have a new favorite, the best of all actually. Sunday afternoon we dropped in having heard nothing about the place. The owner, I assume, was extremely friendly very laid back and very customer oriented. He's obviously proud of his coffee and his goods. It's so nice to see someone who really seems enjoys his business, his products and his customers. Bravo, as we felt very welcome right from the first seconds of entering. The baked goods were awesome. I had a raspberry and something coffee cake and my wife had a blueberry coffee cake. Both were delicious with my wife's being not quite as sweet as mine. My wife is still raving an hr later about her flat white. My latte was very good too and did not require any sugar which I usually add due to the bitterness of many shops. The atmosphere is wonderful, relaxed in fact, with nice easy listening background music and a modern vibe with the black and white interior. Lots of toys or tools, if you will, on display but apparently also in use for the various coffees. Oh, and did I mention that I didn't have to wait in a 15 min line like I do whenever I go near Java Blend? Next trip I'll try the Turkish coffee and I can hardly wait!! I love this place so much. The staff are very friendly, and have patiently explained details to me. There is just a calm atmosphere about the shop. I have tried all of the single-brew methods, and while they are certainly not inexpensive, a lot of time and coffee goes into making them, so I feel like the value is okay. The food items are delicious, and reasonably priced considering the quality. I haven't tried any of the courses they offer, but I would really like to. Absolutely love this place! It's a bit pricy but believe me when I say it is so worth it. They have a huge menu with tons of options and if you don't know what to get the baristas are always willing to make suggestions! I personally recommend the grilled cheese, seems basic but sooo good. I had the best flat white ever at Cortado. This is a place that elevates the artistry of coffee. The spinach breakfast sandwich was also tasty, with an actual egg (unlike the egg patties of other places). If I lived in the area I would be at Cortado daily! read more

Other than the obvious great coffee, I actually love this place for its food! Delicious gluten free baked goods (muffins and brownies are yummy!) and easy to pick up a quick fresh wrap for lunch which is awesome. Noggins smoothie was a nice surprise last time I was there! read more
