The Long Version: Y'all know I love hidden gems tucked away in industrial parks. You know, the places where locals eat and you never see tourists. I know all about these places in Ottawa, where I live, but I'm determined to find these places also while traveling. My husband and I were driving from Halifax to Liverpool, NS and part of my planning was to search Google Maps for restaurants en route. I found Hobson Lake Cafe and thought it sounded like my kind of place. The post their daily specials on their Facebook page. So that morning I eagerly checked and was thrilled to see the pan-fried haddock on the menu the day we were going to visit, as this dish gets the most rave reviews. The people were not wrong! It was fantastic! Perfectly pan-fried, a bit crispy on the outside and soft and flakey on the inside. Nicely seasoned and not too salty. No fishy smell. The rice was nothing special but it was soft and fluffy. The garden salad was fresh and was romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I requested the balsamic vinaigrette and tartar sauce on the side and they gladly accommodated. My meal was $14.99 (the daily special). My husband had the same, but he had potato salad instead of a garden salad. He enjoyed his meal too, although regretted not getting the garden salad because although he enjoyed the potato salad, he felt his choice of side made his meal too carb heavy. Note that it's a very casual place, so food is served on paper plates and cutlery is disposable. Service was friendly and welcoming. The place was hopping! I heard them yelling to the kitchen, make that 7 orders of the special! That was my husband's and mine and the 5 people after us. After we ordered and paid we just milled around the counter waiting for our food, but we're told we could just find a seat and they would bring the food to us. Lol. If you're in the area or passing through, I definitely recommend a stop here for lunch. They are only open weekdays 7am-3pm. Lots of free parking in the building parking lot. They even have spots designated for cafe customers. Review #121 (2026)

It is incredible! I think I'll have to drop by for lunch next time and actually try something off the lunch menu. Maybe I could have a breakfast bagel for desert :). Ah, the dangers of eating someplace where everything is so tasty!

It has all of the usual great SC drinks (best of the coffee chains!) and a great rewards program! We were always able to find a table and they have a good selection of different seating arrangements (long table, 4-person tables, comfy chairs by the fireplace (!!), counter with tall chairs). There is also a small outdoor patio area to sit out during the summer months. Some of my favourite things to order are: - Dark Chocolate Frozen "hot" chocolate - Orange FroCho (it tastes like drinking an orange Creamsicle!) - Blueberry muffin (made with Greek yogurt for greater protein content) - Sumatra coffee - Vanilla bean hot chocolate - Pumpkin Spice Latte (I've tried versions from every coffee shops each year & keep coming back to this as the best) - seasonal maple leaf shortbreads - Chocolate peanut butter oat cake - Harvest Berry tea (This is a wildberry tea made with their apple cider mix & it is PHENOMENAL! The perfect drink for one of those grey or rainy days.) I'm not super into their food or baked goods; the former I haven't tried and the latter I find mostly too sweet for my tastebuds. That and the sometimes limited parking are why this coffee shop doesn't get 5 stars from me. They do have some gluten-free packaged snacks and I think maybe even fresh fruit. As for coffee, they usually have a couple of roasts on the go. My favourite (Sumatra) is rarer in rotation. You can also buy bags of your favourite coffee to make at home, which I somehow didn't realize until a year ago! In addition to that, they have coffee makers, accessories, hot chocolate mixes, tea and apple cider mix for sale. This location is connected to a Needs convenience store and gas station. It can sometimes take awhile to get out of the parking lot if you're trying to turn left onto Suzie Lake Cres., but you can always turn right and essentially pull a u-turn.

It will be better known for it's drive thru one day as it is a much smaller Starbucks with a wonderful drive thru set up. So far most of their business has been people headed towards work and hitting up the drive thru in the early hours as well as people working in the area. Quick and efficient as always. I had the opportunity of sitting inside for a few hours with my husband as we looked over some stuff on the net. Our kitchen is being renovated and it is much easier to get out of the house and away from the stress. I found this location to be quiet and comfortable. my only complaint is that while we were there during sunset hours, the sun blared in on us in the sitting area making it very hard to look at our laptop and sit comfortably without having to block the sun out of your eyes. Will try sitting in different spots next time. I only give it 4 stars as it is a little out of the way for most and nestled in a location for a niche of customers. hopefully after a few visits it will blow me out of the water to keep coming back and give it 5!

So then she made my drink and when I got it, it didn't have any strawberries on the top, which mind you I never said no strawberry inclusions. It also was a grande. I hate when they do that and just assume you want a grande. So then I went back to my car and I had a sip and it was like they mixed lemonade and one drop of strawberry juice! Like it tasted like just lemonade.

People who were in front of me, were long gone after being served by the guy and two females, but Kianna took her time. I asked the guy what's taking so long....he said she's working on it....we both looked and she was stocking and talking not working on my drink. Until I said I want a refund. Then she said hey I'll work on it now. That really should have been a compt drink. Unbelievable. My drink was a slushy refresher .
