Went a few months ago for leg waxing and eyelash tint and curling. The waxing was not my first time…read morehere but of course was with a different student. This particular young student did not speak. The student spent a couple minutes waxing but was not able to complete the eyelash process. I was passed on to a student who was "very experienced" doing the eyelash process. This student also could not complete as according to them, one eye's eyelashes "wouldn't cooperate ." So that process was never done. The waxing job, hadn't actually been done. While it felt like it had been dine, nearly no leg hair had been removed. It was ridiculous. However, I was charged full price for both procedures though. When I returned home, with sore eyes, my husband asked why they did not wax my legs. I had not taken a good look before leaving the school because my eyes were uncomfortable enough that I just wanted to get home and wash them out. I did write a review on the schools website with the above information. They did not give me the courtesy of a reply. In fairness to them, I had been there for a variety of facial treatments and had been satisfied. It seems to me that a school would, in addition to teaching the practical skills that students pay tuition for would also teach customer service. Teach how to provide remedy when a failure to provide advertised services occurs. Refund? Apology? Gift card? Anything? At least stand by their work. It was huge disappointment to me. I had, before this occurred told many about the school and services they provided. I felt it appropriate to let these individuals know that perhaps, despite the expense, they should spend their money at a reputable and professional business. Interestingly, I did consult a reputable aesthetics practice about my "problem" eyelashes. This person stated that all that needed to be done was to use a regular eyelashes curler first. This person then demonstrated on me. It worked perfectly.

I never knew this place existed until my friend was taking classes and mentioned it so I made an…read moreappointment for the microdermabrasion. I loved the service and my skin was glowing after. I didn't check prices before making my appointment but assumed it would be around $80+. It was less than half that price! I will be returning many time over for facials, peels, micro needling, microdermabrasion, hydra-facial you name it.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on a haircut, Atelier Academy of Beauty is the place to go…read more I've had my hair cut by Fara and Addi and have been happy with the results! The instructors check in periodically and give pointers to students as needed. Making an appointment online is easy and both times I was taken back a few minutes after checking in. The appointments are longer than other places because students are providing services, but I always schedule my appointments when I'm not in a rush to be somewhere. Cuts are $15, which is a steal given I've paid a lot more at salons in CA and even Aveda Beauty School in DC. Best of all, it's a 10-15 min walk from my apartment so I don't have to worry about parking. As a recent transplant, I'm thrilled to have found a salon I like on the first try and I'm glad it's in Hopkins!

First of all, let me say, this was my 4th or 5th visit, and I highly recommend this place. Every…read moreother visit has been relatively flawless. I am only writing this review to inform the next customer. 1. It's a beauty school, so give grace and be patient. Things will take longer, but it's a great atmosphere, especially when the weather is nice and they're able to have the big doors open. 2. Bring pictures of what you want if you are having your hair done. From all angles. 3. Specify while making your appointment what services you want, and tell the student who is working on you that you want to be asked/informed of any upcharges. Discuss these things before you get started. The prices are extremely reasonable and the standards are very high. But no one likes double-talk. Highlights and Lowlights are different than double-processing. If a procedure is switched on me, I want to be asked first, and not informed as I hear the stylist reading the list of services to the manager. I requested Highlights, lowlights, and a cut. Her list included: whole head highlights, double-processing, color, toner, cut, and she added that I needed a second bowl of something. I laughed to myself on that one, as I have short, baby fine hair. 4. Things are regularly checked by instructors, but if not, speak up so you don't fall through the cracks. When the instructor inspected my haircut yesterday, the student said, "I haven't layered the back yet." The instructor lifted up the back and made what appeared to be a vertical guide cut, and walked away. The student did a blow out, took my cape off, and I said, "the back hasn't been layered." She kept playing with it and said the instructor did it. Ummm. No. She took a few snips off the back, and I just let it go. The instructor never came back, and had I to do over again , I would have requested it. But everyone was packing up to leave and I was tired. The haircut isn't bad. 5. Weekday appointments seem to be better than Saturday. Whole other vibe. Again, I love this place, I will be back. William is terrific and makes you feel like family. Communicate really well with the student/instructor, and you will have a fabulous experience.
