$5.99 haircuts!!! I just couldn't pass up that offer. After all it's a school of trained beauticians, so I figured it can't be that bad. And if the Korean sign in front didn't give it away, just about all the trainees here are Korean, although most of the patrons were not. I've been cutting my own hair since I was in college. I just got sick of spending $10 - $15 for someone to screw up my hair and I figured I could screw up my own hair at home by myself for free. After a decade of cutting my own hair it's fairly easy to do. The only thing is that it's a hassle to do. Anyway I got this guy that sort of lacked finesse...being rough with the clippers, and the hair brush for brushing away cut hair felt more like a straw broom being swatted back and forth on my neck and face like he was swatting a fly. Stung a little but for $6, what can I expect. With very little instructions on my trim, he did a relatively good job. I had to ask him to shorten it up on the sides a little more, but he skillfully obliged. If you are looking for a cheap trim, I would definitely recommend this place.

Good if you're okay with the occasional bad haircut for men. Womens haircut tend to be better.

Upon arriving I learned that this is NOT the school - the school is now at Le Arai 's Annandale location. That's a bit far even for me to travel to save money on a haircut, and fortunately, the price here was still a bargain -$35 for wash, cut and blow-dry. Tina was my stylist, and she was fantastic - a thorough and relaxing hairwashing, and the cut by itself took maybe 30 minutes. I showed her some photos of the style I wanted and she recreated it quite nicely for me. She was also very warm and friendly while also being focused on her work during the cut - all essential qualities for me in a great hair stylist. The salon is a bit of a walk from the metro station (though there's a nice, large parking lot if you're driving), so I might hesitate to return in the winter months if it's very cold or snowy. That said, beauty school haircuts can be hit or miss, and after today's experience I'm thinking Le Arai will be all hits, so I'm definitely planning to return.

I got a haircut and it was a fix from another local school mess up. The young girl did fantastic at fixing it and a new cut that I showed her a picture of. Her level of knowledge with problem/acne skin has impressed me. As someone who has tried almost everything in the industry and visited countless dermatologists for years to treat my face, I've never been treated with such great attention to my skin and such a personalized action plan. She has been working to lighten my hyperpigmentation and I already see great improvement. I've done regular facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. Now that my hyperpigmentation has been improving, I hopped over to their location next door (the Esthetic Laser Clinic, not to be confused with Esthetic Institute-where the students are) and got microneedling (Skinpen) done. I am excited to see the results. The Esthetic Laser clinic is the real deal and it is not done by students. Pricing for the Esthetic Institute is wonderful, especially for this area where everything seems to be on the higher end. I'm sad to be moving from the area soon but I know that anytime I'm back in town, a trip to the esthetic Institute will be on my list!

Price wise, it's unbeatable in this area. As far as what the price gets you...well a student edition that's slower and therefore abridged. There's a lot they simply don't have time for as the student tries to rush through everything in about 45minutes. The first time takes longer as there's a review of your intake forms, and a discussion on what products to use during this facial. After cleansing, an instructor comes in to check your skin and advise the student on what to do and what products to use. I found this process useful for determining what products I should and should not use. I came back and scheduled with the same student just to get an idea of how much my skin might've improved after following the instructors advice. Very useful. They student double cleanses while streaming your skin. There's always makeup removal even though I've tried telling them I have permanent makeup and no additional makeup on. I really wished they would add this to their chart so we can just skip all this "makeup removal" when no makeup is worn. Anyway, after double cleansing there's an inspection, in my case exfoliation, a mask, and then some treatment as necessary. I assume not everyone has the same treatment as we have different issues to address. Overall the rooms and tables are comfortable. They play pleasant music. It's meant to be a relaxing spa experience. However, as they don't have any lymphatic massage included, or bring any of the facial down to your neck/chest, it really feels a little j complete. There's also not been any extraction even though estheticians usually would extract.
