Can't beat the price! And everyone I spoke with was exceedingly friendly, despite the definite language barrier. (Most of the staff are Korean.) My stylist's English was pretty limited, but the three teachers/supervisors who stopped by all had a stronger command of English, so I'm confident that I could've discussed anything with them that I needed to--but I didn't need to. :) Prices went up in fall 2023; it's now $9.99 for a women's haircut. (I think it's $7.99 for men, but I can't remember for sure.) They have multiple signs making sure customers understand that all the stylists are in training; everything is very transparent. My hair is a little shorter than I originally asked for, but it's still past my shoulders, so no big deal. (It's probably partly a perception thing too, since I asked for layers, which can make the overall length feel a little shorter than it is.) The teacher came by at the end and carefully examined the cut, snipping a little bit extra in some places to make sure everything was totally even. Was it the most advanced haircut I've ever had? No. But that's perfectly fine with me, and well worth the steeply discounted price. Plus, there's no need for an appointment, which is convenient. Oh! And they now accept credit cards, FYI. $5.99 haircuts!!! I just couldn't pass up that offer. After all it's a school of trained beauticians, so I figured it can't be that bad. And if the Korean sign in front didn't give it away, just about all the trainees here are Korean, although most of the patrons were not. I've been cutting my own hair since I was in college. I just got sick of spending $10 - $15 for someone to screw up my hair and I figured I could screw up my own hair at home by myself for free. After a decade of cutting my own hair it's fairly easy to do. The only thing is that it's a hassle to do. Anyway I got this guy that sort of lacked finesse...being rough with the clippers, and the hair brush for brushing away cut hair felt more like a straw broom being swatted back and forth on my neck and face like he was swatting a fly. Stung a little but for $6, what can I expect. With very little instructions on my trim, he did a relatively good job. I had to ask him to shorten it up on the sides a little more, but he skillfully obliged. If you are looking for a cheap trim, I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Definitely made the right decision as a student to pick this school. I learn SO. MUCH. every single day I'm here. Everyone who works here is very nice, super helpful and knowledgeable. The price of the school is very good, especially for the quality of the education and kit. You are well prepared for your state board.... everyone here passes. I really can't complain about anything. When I come here I usually just get a skinny cut. Really no way to mess that up. If you want something plain, simple and cheap this is your place. Never had my hair cut at a beauty school but - like Donald P. - $5.99 haircuts? Clearly inflation has no effect on personal grooming because the going rate remains the same 5 years later. What can you expect? You walk up to the counter, ask for a haircut, and hand over $6.00. You're assigned a student, which is no different than a typical walk-in experience, except that this feels like a game of Russian Roulette with your hair. I got Tim. The place is clean but somewhat spartan. No frills here except the sign disclaiming their right to deny service if you have lice or contagious scalp conditions. It was a tolerable experience. Probably took longer than most haircuts and it lacked the finesse of an experienced hair stylists but Tim did a solid job (not that there's much that he could mess up). Tim fumbled a little bit with the extension cords and I hoped that he uses a new towel with each guinea pig. But the take away is that my $5.99 haircut ended up being just as good - if not better - than some $20-$30+ haircuts I've had before. Maybe some of the hair stylists at Bubbles, Hair Cuttery, and other chains could use some additional schooling. I'd probably come back and spin the barrel again. Come on, it's just $5.99. The hairdressers/ barbers are students but supervised by their instructors and extremely nice. If you're willing to be patient you'll get a wonderful deal. James cut my sons hair and he did a stellar job! It looked exactly like the picture shown to him. His precision and professionalism shined through. Min-ji cut my hair and she did a phenomenal job on my hair. I absolutely loved it! Its like the saying goes once you've found you're hairdresser you'll go wherever to continue to get the same same level of service. She was extremely engaging and welcoming. It was my first time. A bit reluctant & nervous about it. But hair grows back, right? I'm glad I tried it out. There was no wait. You're instructed to sign in and pay first. Credit card payment is for over $10. There was a man who appeared to be the teacher. He greeted everyone. Some in Korean, Spanish, and so on. He couldn't tell my nationality so we spoke in English. The customers are directed to a particular student stylist unless requested otherwise. He oversaw the whole thing. For some students, he did the finishing touches. I had good experience. The teacher was friendly & told the student stylists in Korean that they can ask for help anytime. I even overheard a student wishing there were more customers. My mom had recommended this place. I wish I had gone sooner. Much better than the Supercuts & Hair Clips near me. read more

I went to get my $5.99 haircut about 8 months ago. No one in here spoke English with the exception of "yes" and "cut". The woman who cut my hair was an upper middle-aged Korean with slightly bad breath. The haircut itself was OK, but my hair and my requirement are easy. Still, I asked and showed her I wanted it about an inch long on top with tapered sides. I got a decent cut, but it was about a half-inch at its longest on top. She did manage to cut my left ear very badly. It bled off and on for about a week. You can't beat the price. I am going back later today. I will carry Band-Aids and Neosporin. read more

I go to the Cosmopolitan Beauty and Tech School almost every time I want my hair cut. They do an adequate job, nothing fancy. If you want a basic cut at a low price, it's the place to go to save money. They also give out a card that you can use to get free cut every 10 times. read more

I went for a haircut the other day. I brought a photo of an actress whose haircut I really liked and wanted to have done. It was a simple pixie haircut. My hair was barely up to my shoulders so they didn't have a lot to cut. The woman at the front desk smiled and took my money and called over a hair stylist. She barely spoke English and I showed her the photo, the head instructor came over and had to instruct her on what to do. He suggested I put highlights in my hair but I just wanted a cut. I sat quietly in the chair, just observing and the head instructor said, at one point, that I had a lot of hair. I didn't think I had a lot of hair. Then at another point the hair dresser was looking at the back of my hair and called the instructor over and said something to him in Korean. She thought I had lice. I have never had lice nor do I have any now. I have dandruff. Don't they teach them how to tell the difference? This was my third and last time at this salon. The haircut came out so so, but I felt very uncomfortable. For $5 I didn't expect a five star treatment like I would have gotten at a more expensive place, but I still expect some common courtesy. And I wish they would speak English for their non-Korean clientele. read more

$5.99 for a haircut is too good to be true! I went in with my mom and she had nice curly long hair. We went in for layers and a V shape (possibly cutting 2-3 inches) and the woman who was assisting my mom kept saying "yes, yes, I can do it". Moments later my mom is panicking because I turned over and my moms long hair is now up to her shoulders. The "supervisor" came and looked at my moms hair and we asked her to at least "fix it" by styling it better but she ran her fingers through my moms hair and said "I can't help you" and walked off. So after, another Asian lady came and sat my mom down and fixed the terrible short hair that the other woman did. We didn't get no apology, or anything so it was quite frustrating. I guess we get what we paid for, but seriously don't say you can do a cut of you can't. From my moms long hair to what she has now.... She can't even tie it up. This place is hit or miss depending on the person cutting my hair since this place is cut by beauty school students. Usually a supervisor will come at the end and review the work as well as fix any mishaps. 8/10 times I came out with a decent haircut for $6 that looked just as good as Bubbles or other more upscale salons. 2/10 times I ended up looking like someone hacked my hair with a butcher knife. Regardless, I always end up coming back. So caveat emptor. read more

I been to this Cosmopolitan Beauty & Tec school for tree year to do my hair cut every three week, Just pick the right hair Stylist and tell them whatever you want to cut also they have a instructor ( Mr Kenny good attitude and very friendly) he's away behind you to make sure everybody get the right cut. $ 4.99 so you cannot expect to be a good cut like a professional Salon because this is a school to training a people to be a professional. read more

Good place if you just want a simple cut on the cheap, the students have done a decent job giving me crew cuts. One thing is it will take a lot longer than a regular hair cut, what normally takes 15 minutes takes about 30 - 60 minutes here depending on the student. I went in for a simple trim on my split ends and to get my hair thinned out since I have really thick hair. I told the woman I wanted about 2 inches off and even showed her on my hair. She immediately asked why my hair was so damaged at the ends...a question I found both rude and unanswerable since I don't own a blow dryer, shampoo and condition as instructed and use heat on my hair MAYBE 5-6 times a year. She started cutting away and roughly moved my head around while being given some instruction. It took FOREVER. I realize I have a lot of hair but I've gotten it thinned/trimmed at many other places and it was done in a fraction of the time it took here. I had to have my glasses off obviously but I could see my hair getting uncomfortably short. The end result was about half a foot of my hair gone when I'd asked for 2 inches. I spent years and years finally growing out my hair and this woman ruined all that effort within 40 minutes. Cheap place, but cheap service as well. Would not recommend to anyone. I know I'm never going there again! Oh and they constantly speak in Korean and laugh - even though most of the customers such as myself are of other ethnicities. This is highly unprofessional and rude. Instead of engaging with the customer, the stylists engage within themselves and laugh away while we feel as if they're laughing at our expense. One of the other stylists also poked my 7 year old cousin in the eye with a hairbrush because she was so busy watching TV. Ridiculous. read more
