WARNING: BAIT & SWITCH! This real estate office is full of crooks. My roommate and I had been looking for an apartment and had found a good one at the right price on Craigslist. When we called the real estate agent up, she first booked us to see the wrong apartment (a place nearby, but significantly more expensive). This should have been the first sign of the shanksters who work here. When we finally saw the one we were actually interested in, we decided we wanted it and filled out an application. AFTER they had our money in the form of a deposit, they call us to say, well, they had "made a mistake" in their listing price for the rent and that it would be higher than what we were expecting to pay. And, even though they had lied, our deposit was still non-refundable. This place is unprofessional and dishonest at best and criminals at worst. Don't deal with them if you don't have to. *Update: In the response from the owner below, she claims she has tried to contact me directly. I have no messages in my Yelp account or any of my e-mails. Further proof that they are liars. Even if she had attempted to contact me directly, I absolutely would not respond as I do not trust this agency. read more

Terrible customer service. They don't seem to be interested in what is good for the tenants or the landlords - just in getting their money. Prepare to be talked over and ignored. Don't give them a single dime until the landlord is there with the keys, because you will not get it back if there's a problem. EDIT: I've just found out that Kelly Catallo personally lied to me and also to the landlord about what our lead paint responsibilities were. She told my roommate and I that the landlord was happy to take care of the lead paint issues, which the landlord was not. She told the landlord that the lead paint issues were cheap and simple to fix, which they were not. Such a crook. Stay away! EDIT 2, based on Kelly's reply: The point here is that had Kelly and her agent Amanda been honest with us about the landlord's willingness to de-lead, and with the landlord about the scale of the problem, we wouldn't have had so many issues. As it is, we had to scramble to find another place to live, the landlord had to scramble for different tenants, and Kelly got her $2100 fee. Since it's clear I'm not the only person who's had problems with this company, I'm happy to leave my review up, just as it is. People should know how this business is run. read more

Kelly was patient, showed us a variety of properties, and was able to get us a place we really, genuinely liked. I've used Kelly twice now, and each time I've found her responsive, helpful, and willing to shop with us until we found a place we were really comfortable with. She also handled some of the more sensitive needs my roommates and I have had, and stuck around with us till we had a good place. Now, I know everyone has a broad spectrum of experiences with others, especially businesses, but mine were both great! I absolutely recommend them. read more

My boyfriend and I viewed an apartment with Anthony and after a week of thinking it over we decided it would be the perfect place for us. We wanted to be able to paint so Anthony told us to write that into our application. When we submitted our application we noted that both my boyfriend and I were uncomfortable giving CRE a deposit check, which if our application was accepted and we decided not to go through with the lease signing for any reason, was non-refundable. So, what that means is CRE makes money (equal to 1 month's rent) on prospective tenants not signing the lease after their application is accepted. All of the brokers we have worked with collect this check at the time the lease is signed, hence the usual application fee. The owners went back and forth on whether or not we could paint and ultimately decided that we could not. However, we decided to move forward anyhow. Kelly and Anthony then told us that in order to process our application we needed to drop off the check and did not address the concern we outlined when we submitted our application. The amount of money they were asking for was also unclear; while their broker's fee was 1/2 month's rent they were asking us for a full month deposit. This seemed like a discrepancy to my boyfriend and I. When I called Kelly to clarify she was curt and condescending. She explained that they collect a 1 month fee and that is non-refundable if we decided not to sign the lease if we were accepted, and that if/when we did sign the lease 1/2 month would go to CRE and the other 1/2 month would go towards our first month's rent. This was not stated anywhere in their forms. When I pointed this out, Kelly told me that in the 9 years they've been using this form I'm the only one who hadn't understood the terms and that I needed to read it thoroughly. I was so taken aback that I asked her and Anthony to send over a blank lease for us to review and she said that was fine. I followed up via email. They did not send us the copy of the lease. What is most astonishing to me is that CRE was asking us to give them $1,600 but were irritated when I asked them to explain/clarify what it was for. After not hearing back from them, and not feeling any reassurance about giving them our money, especially having been spoken to like that, we decided to move on. As you can see from the other negative reviews here Kelly is very defensive and doesn't hesitate to blame others. It would have made a world of a difference if she had simply said "I can see how that could be confusing" or "correct, that part is not written in our agreement". read more

I just signed my second lease with Kelly and couldn't be happier with my apartment or her customer service. I've had many less-than-ideal landlords around Somerville so Kelly really stands out. Kelly is by the book and her experience shows. Signing the lease was simple and fast. She always responds to our inquiries within minutes and will often solve issues day of (or keep us in the loop when we're waiting on a fix). She's also a lot of fun. I'm already hoping that I'll find my next apartment through Kelly because at this point, I'm spoiled. read more

Great service! If you can figure out who to call. And, once they have your email, you will never get off their mailing list, even if you unsubscribe a million times. The house we ended up in had multiple listings online and we contacted the various venues and ended up getting in touch with someone at Cosmopolitan Real Estate. Once we finally were in touch with someone, it went great. The meeting with the landlord was smooth and Cosmo Real Estate helped with that. And, now we will be on their mailing list until the end of time. We have unsubscribed from the newsletter but still receive it. We weren't even asked if he would like to receive it. They clearly are running some sort of scam where they "accidentally" posted the wrong rent price and only update the mistake AFTER they cash your checks that you gave them for a deposit and force you to pay more in rent. From what I've heard, apartment hunting can be a nightmare experience in the Boston area... but, from what i've experienced, it's been a no-brainer! Kelly has served as my landlord for 4 years under the same lease and has always been extremely helpful and attentive to us. She is quick to respond to emails and texts, and has sent repairmen over in a timely manner. What has been really nice is that Kelly let's us live without a lot of hyped or rules or regulations so long as we are mindful of the lease and the property-- like I said, a no-brainer. Even more importantly, Kelly is easy to talk to and has been flexible and understanding in every issue or matter. I really liked working with the people at Cosmopolitan Real Estate. They were very friendly with us and with each other at the office. It really goes a long way to see co-workers being friendly toward one another. I also was happy the way they handled paperwork. It seemed organized and complete. All of the work was taken care of in one sitting. They explained everything upfront and answered any questions we had regarding paperwork. They put us in contact with the landlord (who was eager to meet me anyway). I can't say I can give them a full 5 stars, but only because I didn't contact them at first to help me find a place. Kelly was the third realtor I interviewed for a quick sale of a small Medford property in disrepair. At first, skeptical of her proposal as she insisted on listing the property $100K over the other two realtors asking prices, her expertise was validated when we closed within sixty days with $70K over what was first expected. Kelly had insight of a new market uptick in Medford that the other realtors are just figuring out now. I really liked her proactive, real world/contemporary approach. Using state of the art analytic tools with algorithms to discover this market trend, she networked with local developers and investors through social media and on-line means for superior visibility for opportunities. Assisted by her researching & background checks, we weeded out the low ball offers from the wannabe buyers (which there were many) and focused on the real solid offers from reputable developers . Another great feature of this whole transaction was the ease of execution; The bid negotiation, P&S and closing documents, were all signed through an on-line portal making the process so easy,, I really only met face to face with Kelly twice. The realtor, a Robin Ray, forgot about the appointment, never showed up and then a week later announced that the place was not actually pet friendly. A group of rude liars. read more

Absolutely the worst experience. The realtor was late to both my viewing and my lease signing, was confused about which property she was showing, did not give accurate information regarding the laundry situation (which then resulted in an issues between my landlord and I), and gave misinformation regarding the tenants who live upstairs (which the owner then said was illegal information to give out in the first place while defending her agent as a professional who had been working for her for over 10 years.). Additionally when another agent called my sister for a reference she spent zero time talking about the kind of person I was but rather tried to become our agent for the property we co-own and rent. Stay away. Not worth your time. These people are clearly after one thing and one thing only. They will lie to cover themselves at all costs. read more

Absolutely god awful customer service. I suggest choosing legitimately anyone else than this company. They are the least bit cooperative, understanding, and professional. Their business tactics are unorthodox, and quite frankly immoral. It's a family owned company so you'd think you'd receive some family morale, but they're corrupt and they're after one thing: Money. One way and certainly another. The owner is unprofessional by all means, she's always right and the customer is always wrong apparently. That's no way to do business. I have a large social network, and I know after sharing my experiences in the past with them none of them will be doing business with CRE. I hope this will warn other potential home owners as well. You can see for yourself, just look at other reviews with negative experiences. We had a very positive experience working with Cosmopolitan Real Estate and Kelly, specifically. She was extremely proactive in finding us properties that fit our needs and once we found one that we loved, she was fundamental in our efforts to close on the condo. She is an excellent communicator, and quick to respond to our emails, calls, and texts. She also was very knowledgeable throughout this entire process which we really appreciate as first time homeowners. She always kept us well informed and really listened to us throughout the entire process. I have to say that after first reading the yelp reviews that I usually relay so heavily on I was a bit skeptical about contacting Cosmopolitan but boy am I happy I did. I only had 6 days to find somewhere to live when I first saw the listing on Trulia the Sunday before Memorial Day. I emailed them that night through the Trulia website and to my surprise I was emailed back by Shola within two hours. She was very thorough through email and asked exactly what I was looking for in an apartment and what was on my "wish list". After assuring me this place had those things she scheduled a showing with me for the very next day (Memorial day) for 8:30 am which a lot of other realtors and landlords weren't willing to on a holiday. As soon as I saw the place I fell in love and knew I wanted this to be my future home. She let me fill out the application right there and let me know that they were going to need to check my references and credit before getting back to me. She was in communication with me updating me every step of the way until she called Tuesday and said I had gotten the apartment. Talk about a quick turn around!! Even the lease signing was so detailed and thorough. She outlined everything that was majorly important and gave me time to look over it myself and ask her any questions. I signed the lease, took my keys and was on my way. Bottom line, I've lived in my apartment for a week now and love everything about it. It is just as great as it seemed when viewing it and I'm so grateful I went to Cosmopolitan because they are the only Realtor that leases the building. read more

They deserve a rating of "0" not even a 1. Went to look at an apartment, left a deposit and was going to sign the lease on my day off (Thursday) It is currently Wed. Anna wanted me to sign the lease immediately even though I told her I could not until Thursday. She then called where I work looking for me. I called her back, asked her not to call me at work I would come in tomorrow and sign the lease. She then proceeded to give me an attitude and ask me if I wanted the apartment or not and then made it seem like she was doing me a favor. She even said "well, you have really bad credit" EXCUSE ME?! If I had such bad credit why did the owner of the property agree to rent it to me?! And that is besides the fact, where do you get off saying that to me? She then asked again do I really want the apartment because she has other people she can show it to. At that point I told her ok, give me my deposit back and show it to them, I don't want to do business with you. So then my coworkers were telling me I should contact the owner and let her know how her employee treated me. So I did call Kelly the owner and she also gave me an attitude and said that Anna is her best sales person. Does that really matter? She proceeded to also tell me I have bad credit. She also told me in the beginning that the owner was going to replace the carpet and paint and then after we agreed and I gave her the deposit she said the owner wasn't going to do that work. The list goes on about the experience with these people. Kelly clearly has no idea how to run a business. I feel bad for the poor owner of the property who is trying to rent his apartment and is losing tenants over Anna and Kelly and has no idea about what is going on. If you are a owner of a property choose someone else to list it, do yourself a favor! read more
