Cosmosphere kind of makes me want to live in Hutchinson, so that I could send my children to their space summer camp! They have day camps and overnight camps that immerse kids in the space experience, and they're solving problems, landing on the Moon, building settlements, and doing all kinds of STEM stuff. But even if you don't live in the area, if you do have kids with you when you visit Cosmosphere, be sure to visit the CosmoKids area, where there's lots of things to see, touch and explore. This STEM-focused area just for kids makes all of this space info accessible to little people. It was pretty cool seeing the Apollo 13 command module, lunar module, rockets, and all of the displays that outline humankind's journeys into outer space. They have a significant collection of space artifacts here, so I highly recommend this museum to people who are interested in space. It's worth a visit!

This is a must visit, must see and must take the tour! This was not on my radar while visiting and my sister in law recommended as she's from here! What an amazing and important museum full of history that is vital to our existence here on earth. For kids it's a great place to see rockets, historical memorabilia from the WWII to the Space Race and a space rock. The Cosmosphere has a gift shop and cafe as well.

Super cool, interactive spot to learn for kids and adults ! We went while visiting family in Wichita. This spot is about an hour outside of Wichita but worth the drive. So much to learn about NASA and space and the different vessels and planes we use in the air ! The place is large and good for groups (there were 15 of us). Highly recommend checking them out!

This gift shop is so darn cute! Candi was the employee in there and she was very helpful with finding what we were looking for. The gift shop was very well organized, and prices are honestly not bad for many things- as they have clearance items as well. Also, they have military and veteran discount of 10%. You have to let them know before the purchase so they can adjust the price.

This is the single best museum I've been to in years, maybe ever. If you're interested in space, air, and/or history, this is your place. As soon as you walk in an actual SR-71A greets you. Look down, Liberty Bell 7, look past those two and you see half of a space shuttle. The further I went, the more amazing it was. This collection is second to only the air and space museum at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. I mean, come on, Apollo 13's Odyssey is in there. The real one. I was very close to tearing up multiple times because of what many of these artifacts did for the United States during the Cold War and Space Race. This museum is stunning. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it's unbelievable.

One of the better space places. Little pricy but well worth it. It has some of the real things. Like the lunar vehicle

We told him we were just passing through on our way home and asked if there was anything worth seeing nearby. He recommended the local space museum and Strataca, the underground salt mine. After finishing lunch, we decided to check out the salt mine since it was only a short drive away. When we arrived, the building looked more like a regular business office than a tourist attraction. Inside, there's a ticket counter where you purchase your tour tickets, along with displays and information about the mine. As luck would have it, we were the last two people admitted for the day's tours. After receiving our hard hats and a brief orientation, we headed to the elevator. It felt a little strange seeing an elevator in the middle of the building that takes visitors 650 feet underground. The ride down takes about a minute and a half in near darkness, adding to the anticipation. When the elevator doors opened, it felt like stepping into another world. Despite being hundreds of feet underground, it looked like a massive building with no windows. The size of the chambers carved entirely out of salt is incredible. The first part of the tour is self-guided and explains how the salt is mined, the machinery involved, and how dynamite is used to break apart the salt deposits for harvesting. After that, board a train that travels through parts of the mine, showing where mining operations began and explaining what life was like for the miners, including break and lunch area. Learn about the equipment used and more. Dark Ride tour, where a guide drives you through additional sections of the mine on a golf cart while sharing stories and information about its history and operation. The tunnels stretch for miles, and since mining still takes place today, it's fascinating to see how much of the mine remains active. They even host special events, dinner theaters, and private functions underground. This was one of the most unique attractions we've visited and far exceeded our expectations. An excellent tour from start to finish, and we would absolutely do it again.

Many old photos, retro signage and that unmistakable "this is where it all started" energy. Even from the wrong side of the door, it's still pretty cool. Pizza Hut was founded here in Wichita in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney. After decades of expansion and multiple ownership changes, it is currently in the process of being sold by Yum! Brands to a capital company and a Chinese partner. The chain struggled in recent years due to declining US sales, increased competition and the rise of delivery-first rivals with lower costs. The latest news is that the sale is expected to close later this year, marking the first time since the 1970s that Pizza Hut will not be owned by PepsiCo or Yum. A sad new chapter. (Just don't ask me how many Pizza Huts I've reviewed because I wasn't helping them much.) This now joins my growing collection of "firsts" that includes the first Starbucks in Seattle, the first Dunkin in Quincy, the first Timmy's in Hamilton and now the birthplace of the Hut. We found that was not the case, and this museum was one of the hidden gems. The quaint little self-serve museum sits on the Wichita State University campus grounds. The doors are unlocked at 9am. One you open the door, the lights automatically turn on, and you're free to roam! I am from the East Coast, by the Smithsonian and all DC museums. I have been spoiled by art my whole life. I have also taken art and art history courses. My partner said the good art is at the bigger museums. He is not wrong! So what's left over is what's here at this smaller museum in the middle of the country. That's sad. People in this area deserve to see beautiful art too. The visiting exhibit is awful right now. I don't want to say what it is. But it's just awful and we paid $6 per person to see it. I looked at everything and had to get out of there. Nothing enjoyable. The museum was packed. I think we went on Valentine's Day or thereabouts. We got food. It took quite a while to get the food. Else enjoyed the live jazz! Or at least I did! Nothing like live jazz. I am an artist and I would love to have my art in this museum - then I know beautiful art would be hanging up that people would enjoy looking at. Driving home, my partner said he wouldn't pay $6 to see that visiting art exhibit again, but he would pay $100 to see my art - which is hanging in his own living room! I feel very sad about my review. But it's my truth. Art is subjective , I suppose. I hope future exhibits knock it out of the park. Hopefully this was just a low point for the museum.
