Lovely little place for a quick coffee and a pastry on a Sunday morning or any time of the day…read morereally. The interior is quite simple with pictures on the walls that give the place the right touch of colour. I love the view towards the tea pots and coffee machines behind the counter. So colourful! The location is ideal near the Meadows. The staff is very friendly. Toilets are clean. I had ordered a cafe latte and a pastry. Both tasted delicious. Sometimes the floor started to shake, but I assume this is from the coffee machine. Not much space so and if you prefer a private conversation I would suggest to move to the corner in the back, otherwise be ok with people listening into your conversations :-) Enjoy!

The disappointment arrives after the coffee turns out to be...eh...well... that sort of response. If I don't close my eyes and give out a long contented sigh when the coffee first passes my waiting lips, I won't subject my mouth to further torment. Luckily for those of us in the Toll Cross hood, Machina is the kind of coffee you close your eyes to enjoy. It's pretty obvious when you step in there: the boards showing you the different methods of brewing, the shiny pretty espresso machines for sale, the long time it takes them to make your cappuccino. There aren't many seats, in fact it's probably bigger than your living room. Not mine, mine is tiny, which is why I sit in Machina as long as I can milk my hot beverage. But it's cool people watching for those few who do get to sit because lots of meadows-meanderers come through for to-go options, and the long uncomfortable minutes while they wait make them antsy and squirmy (it somehow feels wrong to pull out your phone here, so these people mostly just stand there, reading about espresso machines, trying not to look at anyone else) and it's pretty funny. And I've seen DOGS inside, which gives them BONUS stars.

We didn't eat anything, but I did leave with a t-shirt! Like others mentioned, very environmentally conscious. Wish we had arrived earlier in the day to (sensibly) have more than one! A definite stop for our next visit to the island.

There's a separate on site building for its roastery. The coffee is ace, we got a flat white, a cappuccino and two Americanos and the coffee smell was delicious. I've noted many of the chain coffee places don't have this notable inviting aroma. The home - made cakes and sweet treats were delicious too. I'd give it 5 green stars for its environmental commitments. It was real busy and we had to stand a while to get the bench seating outside in a breezy almost warm day. They had ample room inside but almost everybody opted for outdoors. They say that their mission is to bring top quality, speciality grade, carefully sourced arabica coffee beans from around the world, into the hands of UK coffee lovers. I agree they do. I would have liked to find out if their coffee is shade grown and if they buy from all female farm workers. I wonder too if they decaffeinate their own coffee and if so how? Really worth supporting.

The owner/staff are nice, friendly and always try to make you feel comfortable. Being the email fiend that I am, I find this place particularly resourceful if I'm wanting a wee sit down and a Hotmail session for half an hour. It's pretty inexpensive and a wee cheeky cup of tea doesn't break the bank. I am yet to try their smoothies but might give em a go now that Lynsey has talked 'em up. Sometimes caffeine is not in fact the answer, and their choice is useful if you need to rehydrate yourself with something colder. As Lynsey has also outlined this place is small, but if you stop by and avoid the peak times it's usually easy enough to get a PC. This place has been great for me on the countless recent visits to Edinburgh. As much as I love sitting in here and checking what my travelling friends are up to whilst sipping on a brew, it's just as handy for backpackers who are flying by to touch internet base before jetting off to another city. It's a shame that internet cafes have become endangered since they are still necessary, but it's a comfort Coffee Home Internet is still representing!
