We'd been…read morestopping over here in Ludlow on our way to Snowdonia in Norther Wales and my radar for low-key, no-fuss, down-to-earth food was triggered when I saw the Olive Branch from the outside. Seriously, it's not a stylish restaurant, but the concept, the food and the overall atmosphere is absolutely lovely. I loved ordering at the counter cafeteria-style and then taking your trays to one of the wooden cubicles. The food was just as I expected: wholesomely tasty! We took some cheese scones for the ride and had them later for tea when we arrived at our cottage! Definitely recommend this place!

We eventually managed to find The Olive Branch and even though they were very busy and had lots of reserved tables we managed to get a table "laid up" for us. This place has lots of past Egon Roney awards and has a very laid back, Bohemian menu. The staff, if a little young, were very enthusiastic and full of energy. The menu wasn't extensive but there was a very good selection of dishes all of which were cooked wonderfully and the portion control was perfect. Amongst the four covers (Chicken stuffed with Shropshire blue cheese and wrapped in smoked bacon, Lamb and Apricot pie and Vegetable tarts) we were served a selection of salads (bean, fruit and nut and traditional green leaf) as well as a selection of stir fried vegetables. This was very novel and ensured we could pick and choose our accompaniments. The wine selection was also very nice - the Pinot Grigo went down far too well and we managed to consume a couple bottled with ease. It would be too easy to over look The Olive Branch but if you're in town do yourself a favour and drop in as you'll be pleasantly surprised.

From conventional seating to small sofas, this is a good place to escape the hustle and bustle of the town centre. Having had coffee earlier in the morning, we opted for tea, ordinary and Earl Grey, although there were a multitude of other flavours on offer, both were refreshing and light, just what we needed. There were also coffees, such as americano, latte and cappuccino, all in two sizes. The counter was made of clear acrylic embedded with lots of different types of buttons, very effective. Atop of the counter, were many tempting homemade cakes, like scones, brownies, carrot cake, lemon drizzle, to name but a few. Resisting temptation we each had a teacake, which was perfect for a light lunch, and very reasonably priced to boot; a good find!

It came highly recommended by our host at the B&B we were staying. The café is adorable! They have outdoor seating, but it was a bit chilly and damp (what else is new?), so we opted for the cozy warmth of the indoors. It's a relatively small space- it probably seats 25 to 30 people. It's a popular place and it seemed the tables were constantly full (so make reservations). We ordered 4 entrées to share- 2 plates of Gnocchi (with Italian style pork, fennel and garlic sausage ragu, and a green salad); a beet salad with avocado and caramelized onions (which was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!) and to round things out, Tagliatelle (which had asparagus, tomato, anchovy, chili and green olive sauce). Everything was delicious. Continuing the theme of being indulgent (aka greedy), we followed that up with lemon polenta cake (with Greek yogurt) and their version of a pavlova. Both desserts are light and tasty! The Green Café did not disappoint! It was a stunning start to fantastic food weekend! Even though I am based 3.5 hours away in London, I will definitely be back and highly recommend that you venture to Ludlow for this very affordable and incredible restaurant!

The coke was warm, no ice. The panini had BBQ sauce so hit, it nearly burned out son each time he took a bite. Our grandson enjoyed the chicken nuggets and cheesy fries but our other grandson did not like the spaghetti. The soup needed seasoning. No wifi!!!! Yikes!! Delicious looking pastry but we didn't take advantage of it.

Bathed in light, this is the perfect aspect for a restaurant concentrating primarily on breakfasts, snacks and lunches. Outside and a variety of indoor seating, meant Ludlow Kitchen can cope with quite sizeable parties. The kitchen is open to the restaurant, so you can see the busy chefs, preparing your food. We liked this place so much, we visited Ludlow Kitchen on three occasions, once for a mid-afternoon snack and coffee, crumpets and fruit bread, along with the cafetiere of the day, a rich Guatemalan blend. The second time we went for lunch, a good choice on offer - fish salads, salmon fishcakes, burgers, soup of the day etc. I had the Chorizo burger, with smoked cheese and harissa yoghurt, with accompanying dressed salad and homemade chips, a fantastic lunch, so full of flavour. My wife had the soup of the day, a rich tomato soup, with a homemade roll, and butter made in the Food Centre, the best lunch of the holiday. Ludlow Kitchen champions local produce, has a great relaxed atmosphere, with helpful unobtrusive staff. We liked the pottery our coffees were served in so much, that we drove to Wenlock Pottery to buy some coffee cups for ourselves. Our only regret with the Ludlow Kitchen, is that it doesn't open for evening meals.

This place has loads of the usual deli store items you'd expect, alongside a full cheese counter with a guy on it cutting them all out and looking like he lives and breathes his job. There's also great preserved meats and some of the biggest olives I've seen on sale in the UK before. Very impressive beer selection too - local beers mixed with Beavertown, Brewdog, Camden etc and their coffee choice is awesome. Overall this is my dream shop, I could happily spend a lot of time and a lot of money here regularly!
