AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AT ALL COST. The nurses and the specialist they finally brought in to help me were great however, the front desk staff, Oscar specifically- were some of the most despicable people I have ever encountered. I was in the middle of a medical emergency and upon entering the premises Oscar asked for $200,000 USD even though I had let him know my insurance would be covering the bill. The final bill by the way was closer to $3000 and just as I said insurance covered it. They left the IV in my arm at the end in what felt like an attempt to not only get more money from me but also charge my insurance for another day as it was nearing midnight. My husband told them we would call the police if they did not remove it from my arm and let us go. That seemed to scare them and they removed it. About 40 minutes after leaving the hospital the women who took over for Oscar who was equally as awful asked me to tell my insurance company I was still at the hospital. Not once did Oscar or the women who took over from him ask me if I was ok or provide some sort of basic human decency based on my situation. Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else. read more
4/10/2020 Update : I did receive the money that was not used in the down payment I gave at the beginning of my daughters accident in January. They did say I would get a refund on the money that was not used , but it would take time. I did receive the money in my account. Their word is good. Honest hospital . read more

I hope this practical info is helpful to travelers to Tulum as I cant find too much online except for some Tripadvisor forums. In the age of COVID, many countries requiring proof of a negative covid test before allowing folks to board a plane back to their country (if you test +ve you will need to stay in Mexico for average of 14 days to get a negative test before you can fly), so it is good to know you can get a test here. Costamed advertises their services in several cities in the Yucatan. They offer a range of testing, incl. PCR and a rapid antigen test that is acceptable for entering the US. Making an appt is not necessary for the rapid antigen test and costs MXP 1000. The PCR is more expensive but I hear that many are requesting that because its "the best". Problem is overwhelming tourist demand and COSTAMED in Tulum may not guarantee turnaround in time for your flight, so check with them first and plan accordingly and the whole affair may take an hour or two. There is also tremendous inefficiencies, taking easily 30 mins just to take your basic info (you need an ID), and you need to wait outside the clinic in the open; then separately you need to pay first for any services, then after you pay outside you wait for them to come out to call you ... then you come back for results hours later (for the rapid antigen test). PS The staff don't speak English. PPS Although I did not check out the quality of their other services, I got a taste for their prices which seems exorbitant: they quote almost USD 80 for a simplest blood cell count (CBC) test which in the US is reimbursible at $10; that is a test that can be done in some US doctor offices in 15 mins but here results may take till next day ... and the receptionist knows nothing, every question you ask, they have to go inside to ask for an answer. read more
