Well, the strategic planning team at Soapy Joe's must be watching my every move because like a moth to a flame, I was quick to make my way just a hop, skip, and a jump to wash the beast. Sure, she's an old dog, but Joe makes her clean up well. I have no idea how old this operation is but I really love that they're everywhere and I know exactly what I'm going to get. I really debated even writing this review, but if it helps one person then it will be worthwhile because I wish we had been more aware. On Labor day weekend this last year, on our usual Saturday morning, we noticed the amount of cars in line was quite higher than what we were used to. We also noticed the attendants were putting cars in much closer than what we were used to as well. This is where I wish we had pushed back when the attendant waved us through despite there being two cars in the washing stall already. We hadn't been in for more than a few seconds when we felt our car propel forward and hit the car in front of us. It didn't have to go far since we were already so close behind it and we had no idea what was happening. We had to take the car out of neutral and reverse and there was already another car behind us as well. It was a nightmare. To make matters worse, the female attendant in the car wash was pointing at us and the damage on the car in front us and laughing. The car we hit ended up being a new car a high school kid had just gotten. Thankfully everyone was okay and the damage was not too bad but we were horribly shaken up. The kid we were propelled into also kept remarking that he had been too close to the car in front of him as well. We gave our insurance information and did all the right things hoping Soapy Joes would as well but they ended up accusing us of being in drive and excused themselves of any responsibility. This car wash ended up costing us $1200 out of pocket. There is no recourse for us as they will not allow anyone to access to their videos of the incident to show how close the cars were going in, and upon researching a bit on Reddit I quickly realized we weren't the only ones who had experienced this exact same thing at a Soapy Joes. The one thing all the incidents had in common was being put into the wash too close to the car in front. Soapy Joes is no longer associated with anything fun or happy for our family. In fact- the opposite as I see new ones popping up and wonder how many more people will go through what we did. If you have no better option than to come here, I strongly suggest you not let the attendants wave you in if there is a car still halfway in the wash. As for us, we take our cars to a touch-less car wash with no attendants, where we decide when to drive in, that has the same dryer and vacuum amenities as Soapy Joes, without the risk or lack of care or professionalism for their customers.

The employees are cordial and helpful (and it can't be that great a job!), and the wash itself always works as it should. My concern, and the reason for leaving off a two stars, is that too often lately the vacuum hoses on some of the vacuums are not working or, as it happened today, are on the ground, not even connected to the vacuum. While not the end of the world, I do pay quite a bit for an annual pass and expect that if and when a vacuum is not working properly, for whatever reason, they would do their best to fix it immediately. It's frustrating to pull into a drying/vacuuming spot only to discover that one or both of the hoses does not work. It seems to me that this type of malfunction would be at the top of the consistent problems for a car wash, especially when SO many patrons use the vacuums each day and therefore, they would anticipate the need to solve the problem right away, and the solve it. Yet, my experience is the opposite. One solution I have is to go out to the brand new SJ's in Santee with it's lovely new and not-yet-broken hoses. A little out of my way, but with less of the frustration.
