( drove from Hilo to Kona) I was so happy even the guy in front of me heard me, when I mentioned to my hubby. We were on the same shuttle bus to the airport and he brought up that my gas fill up was only $13. (hehe, I was that loud?!) Gas per gallon was @$4.19 a gallon vs. $4.79 or more at the rental car company if I opt for them to fill up the gas. Love the savings! Note to self, when filling up your gas don't make the same mistake as I did, use the green pump which was diesel, it cost more per gallon. I was losing my marbles and not paying attention. I only had to go the once before returning my rental car, and the location south of Kona proper is really convenient for the rental return. The gas is always much cheaper at Costco, this weekend the gas was about 75 cents per gallon cheaper than any of the other gas stations in the Kona area. I love Costco and their gas is one of the reasons. It's always significantly cheaper than the other places in the area. In Hawaii, this is especially true. The gas station is always crowded. They always have long hoses so you can pull up on either side and the hose will stretch across the car. Say What ?? A Costco gas station with no line? Must have lucked out. The three-pump lanes really helped. The filler nozzles don't sport the clunky vapor-recovery nuisances that California pumps have. The tradewinds keep the air pretty clean here. Gas here is offered in three octane grades, 87,89, and 91. Guess which grade the rental car got? Diesel is also offered. Prices are significantly lower than any other gas station I saw, perhaps by as much as 75 cents or more per gallon. Great Costco on the island. Gas prices are much lower than any gas station in the area. The only annoying thing is that you have to keep pressing the handle to continue dispensing gas.
