But the lady working there was so nice and explained everything! They even signed me up for the discount card. Mahalo for being so kind to this clueless mainlander! We got the 2 orders of the combo with 2 chicken thighs and 1 drumstick and 3 pieces of fried, batter dipped potato wedges. Pieces were large and meaty. It was a lot of food! Only $8.99 with the discount card for each box. The potatoes were tender and quite tasty. We really enjoyed them. Chicken itself was flavorful, although we found the crust too salty. It was a tiny bit dry. Not sure how long it had been sitting there. The crust was very crunchy. Everything was hot and well packaged. Overall, a great deal and worth a try if you're in the area! We ended up stopping at Minit Stop out of pure necessity because literally everything else on the island was closed -- and honestly, we were not disappointed. We searched for nearby mini mart and this one popped up between Costco and our resort. We were looking for water but saw yelp reviews of fried chicken. We wanted to try the 6 piece thigh for $13.99 but they ran out and it would have been another 15 minute wait. Instead we got one thunder thigh ($2.49 each) and three drumstick ($3.99 each) which is more costly because they charge by per piece. They offer three flavors, original, sweet chili, and korean. We stuck with original. It's about 30min drive back to our hotel and it was still crispy! It's like fried multiple times to be crispy and very moist inside. But then again, it's dark meat. For sure the best result is on the first day, second day would need to be warmed up in the oven. The spam musubi was yummy. Good amount of rice portion and the spam was flavorful. Maybe lacking a bit of teriyaki sauce but other than that, food at this minit stop is worth it. They offer rewards card so if you think you'll shop here often, then join their loyalty program. read more

Most important info: This is the closest gas station to the Kona Airport. Gas isn't the cheapest. Bathrooms aren't the easiest to spot. But it's close to the airport and it's not super expensive (compared to other gas stations) and there in fact are bathrooms if you have an emergency pee need. read more

Who would ever guess that some of the best fried chicken would be found at a gas station? Heard the rumor from several friends and had to try it out. Yes, it's true, all of the food from this little convenience store is awesome. The chicken was ultra crispy and light! You can buy premise bentos, made to order plate lunches and chicken by the piece or box. They also make sandwiches (tuna, ham, veggie and lobster) along with wraps. We tried the lobster croissant, and yes, there was real lobster mixed with imitation... but I know the lobster was real as there was actually a piece of shell! This was sooo yummy! Minit Stop is located right next to the Kona airport. In fact, it is the last gas station before the airport, you can't miss it.... in fact, you shouldn't miss it! Came to big island for a little "vacay" from Oahu a few months ago and stayed in Kohala, ate Minit Stop almost every day for a week up there! lol fell in love with it!! Recently I been coming to Kona weekly for work, sometimes staying over night. I been craving the chicken and wedges from here so I went in to grab some for dinner after work. Got back to my room only to find out I was given undercooked chicken :( SUPER BUMMED. I was not about to drive all the way back.. so so so sad!!!! I ordered the 3 piece box (2 thighs, 1 drumstick, and 3 wedges)...only to rip into my chicken and find that 1 thigh and the drumstick were pink inside. To make matters worse, I'm so disappointed in the staff and their response. I called to let them know that my chicken was raw and all the girl had to say was "oh....sorry about that". I was initially introduced to Minit Stop in Maui a few years ago and loved the concept of a place where you can pick up food, drinks (water to alcohol)...oh and fill up the gas tank. Now let's be real.....the highlight: fried chicken! For less than $5, you can easily get a few pieces of fried chicken, your choice of wing, thigh etc. For a few more dollars, you can opt for an actual meal with rice and Mac salad. Oooowheeeee *happy dance! Fast forward to present time in Kona when we drove by Minit Stop and I immediately made my husband make this important pit stop. This location did not disappoint.....I ended up coming in twice during my trip on The Big Island. Before returning the rental car, we fueled up and grabbed to go fried chicken plates. I like this gas station mainly because it's in a perfect spot. Not gonna lie, sometimes I try to push my car's gas gauge a little too far. If I'm heading into town on Queen K nearing empty, I'd rather pull through Minit Stop than try to make the stretch for Costco's gas station. It seems like a short distance, but it really does ease my nerves and tides me over until I can get to a cheaper gas station. Also, it's conveniently located across Kohanaiki so if you're heading to Pines on a beach day, Minit Stop is quick and has a good selection of hot foods to order as well as snacks, drinks, and other random items you may need. They also have a decent selection of beers and wines (and some hards behind the counter) especially for a smaller gas stop. read more

Beware of their fish tacos. I had some and got food poisoning after. Even thinking about them makes me nauseated. But then again it's gas station food so you can't expect a gourmet meal. Plus you get for what you pay for. Just beware and eat at your own risk. read more

DO NOT ORDER AHEAD! They didn't even notice the order until I arrived. They were out of some of our items, and would only substitute a lower cost item with no refund. Then the order took 30 minutes to fill. Their online system doesn't support efficient input, and you have to go from screen to screen to input data. As a local here in Kona, I really take pride in customer service. And here there was none. I arrived at about 9:30p. We love their chicken and we've eaten here late, but wasn't quite sure if they still served at this time. That however wasn't an issue. I walked to the counter while this woman continued to talk on the phone in another language which wasn't familiar (that is not an issue of course). She was looking through her brown purse. On the other counter another lady was counting the drawer. No big deal - she was busy. Been there done that. I looked back at the lady in front me and still no acknowledgement. No eye contact. Nothing. She continued to talk on the phone. The only understandable word I heard was "9:45p". At this point it was at least a minute and a half maybe passed. The lady on the left finally finished and said can I help you? I asked if they had chicken. All she did was point with her head towards the lady who was still on the phone in front of me. That lady in front of me put the phone on her shoulder without hanging up and said yes can I help you. I asked if they still had chicken. She said no it was cleaned up already at 8pm. I said oh you guys stop serving chicken at 8pm? I was confused because I've grabbed chicken after 8pm before. She said there is no chicken. I saw the red and yellow box chicken sitting in the heater, and asked her if that was chicken and if I can buy it. She told me (still with the phone on her shoulder) oh no I paid for that already. Yes - I was a little more irritable as this was "NO SERVICE" or care in the world at all. If I were the owner, I would not like my investment to be treated 2nd class. Especially since my establishment sits right across from a very high end beach club KOHANAIKI. She finally I assume said goodbye and hung up the cordless phone. I started to walk out with my two kids as they hollered to me from the cashier - SORRY. I turned around and said..."You know, I train customer service, and THIS was not service". I continued, "You not once acknowledged my presence for over a minute and continued to talk on the phone - you could have said, I'll be right with you - that would have been acceptable". I continued, "You really need to do a better job, or your Manager/Owner needs to train you properly". All they said was sorry again. Where is the customer service? Because it was not there. Please train your employees. It is better for you the owner, a better reflection on you the Manager, and a better perspective from me the paying customer. read more

Do not buy gas here. You have to go inside and pre pay even with a credit card!!! What a waste of freakin time! The place is busy and it's a HUGE hassle! This place is fairly new and in theory you would think they would have everything together but they dont. Didn't have any coffee, they were out and didn't have any of the types of coffee even listed like decaf or Kona coffee etc. Their bathrooms were supposedly 'broken' according to the staff.
