[[HIGHLIGHT]]I enjoyed that this Costco wasn't too packed even on a Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Gas lines here moved very efficiently and didn't have to wait long at all. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decent amount of samples here and even got me to buy a few of the items myself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, this Costco is efficient and I didn't have any issues roaming around even on the weekend.

So we needed gas and it was going to be iffy if we were going to make the SLO Costco so we stopped a little early and being the Costco fiends we are stopped in for a quick look. It was you basic, albeit large, Costco. It follows the typical setup most have with electronics, then household items, then food, then medicine/vitamins etc. The center was seasonal items and clothes. One nice thing about this is the food court is outside the warehouse so it really helps de-conflict things. As I stated in my review of the the Mountain View location, we do have some rules to help keep our obsession under control: 1) NEVER EVER go in hungry. That 25 gallons of dill pickle chips is much easier to resist on a full stomach.... true story there. 2) Avoid the free samples. People seem to lose their minds with this stuff. They abandon carts with crying babies, block isles, etc all to get that tiny portion of hummus. I have been shoved aside by someone desperate to get a free piece of cheese. Honestly I have seen more dignity from actual starving people in a disaster zone but I digress. 3) Avoid the weekends like the plague. 4) See #1 5) Go often. Costco uses alot of psychology and the fear of missing out is one of them. Odd items you must have pop up then go never to return. I CAN'T MISS OUT AGGGGGGG 6) Know your codes: At costco any price ending in 0.97 means it has been marked down. Any price that is not a 0.99 or .97 such as say 0.49 means it has a manufacturers discount. and price with an * aka "The Death Star" on it means its done and will not be reordered so stock up. If it ends in a .00 or a 0.88 a manager has reduced the price at that location to clear it out. 7) When in an unfamiliar city head to the Costco. They always stock local items you can't find at yours (like two pounds of single origin Kona coffee for 30.00 at the Kilaua / Kona store etc.) and have cheap gas. (Same on Kauai)

Price of tires can't be beat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But after ordering and paying for them online, I still had to physically go in to make an appointment. The online system didn't work and after calling on the telephone three times I was never connected to the tire department.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So after making my appointment I showed up 15 minutes early to wait in line another 30 minutes. After leaving my vehicle with them, I received a text an hour later advising my vehicle "was ready for pick up." I was dropped off an hour after that to find my vehicle with no wheels on it. Could've been a simple human error? IDK, but they should make the process a bit smoother. I'll just leave it at that. The end product was great though.

Costco Gas Santa Maria - $5.69/gallon for regular gas (July 12, 2022)

This review is for the gas station. Not much space to line up behind those people pumping due to a barrier in the back. However, the line moves fairly quickly with 24 gas pumps (8 lanes; 3 pumps per lane). I like how this Costco has the light indicating which pumps are occupied and which ones are available. This was definitely a better experience over the one I had yesterday at the San Luis Obispo Costco gas station. Regular gas here was $5.69/gallon, which is cheaper than $5.79/gallon I paid the day before at Costco San Luis Obispo. Since this Santa Maria location was easier to get in and out of, I will definitely choose this location over Costco San Luis Obispo next time I need to gas up in the area (during a road trip to/from Santa Barbara or further south).

So Costco changed the size of their toilet paper and is using the same price!(robbed head to toe Costco)!

I thought I could always trust Costco and their prices and sizes but it seems like you're just fucking us over and making shit a lot smaller and charging the same price!

I have been following Costco every town where I have time to shop. This one came up in the mid trip between greater Los Angeles to the San Francisco. I love the fact that it has gasoline pumps on site, it also has its unique specialty. Believe it or not Costco caters the local population & ethnicities. One time I found in this place a Japanese green tea below regular price elsewhere! This time I found Calrose rice. Costco limits this rice to where it deems more rice consumed area. Other brands of rice will be substituted for this brand based on what ethnicity lives in the area. I like the challenge to discover what each Costco will provide to its local population. So, next time if you happen to be in a Costco, try to play the game of discovery to find the exotic foods & unique items to specific geography while enjoying your saving that Costco will provide you on your bulk-shopping. Cha-ching, there goes your money out of your wallet!

Ask the Community - Costco Wholesale

Are there special hours for seniors now?

I thought they were still allowing seniors to enter early. Tuesday and Thurs 9am-10am early for seniors is what their recorded message says. ****

Does anyone know if they do same-day prescription eyeglasses? I'm traveling and forgot my glasses and need new glasses ASAP! Thanks:)

I do not believe so. I bought my last three glasses there and always have to wait a few weeks.

Do they have a floor layout map ,or app with layout?

I dont think so. They change their layout quite a bit too

The only downfall is that this Costco doesn't have a Costco gas station like the one in San Luis Obispo.

We'd filled up nearby and had a mishap with a faulty gasoline hose. That resulted in gas being spilled on the exterior of the car and a very unpleasant gas vapor smell inside. We went over to Conserv Fuel. Dear Hubby went inside and bought the simple wash code. Then we got in line. There were only two cars in front of us and we wondered why it was taking so long. We learned that unlike conveyor-belt style washes, this one is quite different. There isn't a track to follow, so an attendant isn't needed. Instead, you are prompted by lighted signs and an eerie exterior loudspeaker when to drive into the wash tunnel. Then the washing machinery moves back and forth over your vehicle multiple times. There is a pass for the wash cycle, then the rinsing, and then you slowly creep forward to take full advantage of the drying phase. DH chose the touchless version, but you can also have "light touch". The touchless didn't clean the exterior as thoroughly as one might have liked, but it did get the gasoline off the paint, and the overall washing experience cleared away the bulk of the smell. I would say that the cycle time is significantly longer than the kind of wash we are used to at other stations. It helped us solve the problem of the moment, and that's a good result.

Monday, 9AM is my weekly Costco trip, I should probably only go if I need something, because, and we all know this, you walk out with stuff you didn't intend on buying. Am I right? I've only been an executive member for going on 3 years now, the first year, I didn't go to Costco, but since retiring it's a weekly trip and usually there will be something on the Costco list we need. The SLO location is great for me, about 30 minutes from Paso, easily accessible, lots of parking, Costco gas and the reliable food court we have grown to love. I walk the store weekly, never in a hurry to get in and out, but the only time I've seen it really crowded was Thanksgiving week, 2025, but even then it was manageable once inside, it never felt crowded and the check out lives, including self check weren't a long wait. I feel the employees do a great job keeping the store stocked and clean, making it easy to navigate. I have use the optometry department, which was very easy, albeit a little bit of a wait to be served. They took all three of my prescriptions and I found a frame and a few weeks I picked my glasses up. Since then, they have repaired them once, no charge. If you need glasses, get them filled at Costco, so easy, good selection. Overall, I am happy with their selection, there are things I wish they would stock, miso marinated sablefish and Tejava being two of those items. It's nice to see some new items as I stroll the aisle and overall it's s great experience in SLO. Can't forget that hotdog meal on the way out, still a deal at $1.50!
