THERE ARE Gas Pumps at the newer Santa Maria location just off Betteravia. They have been there since the new location opened some years ago. Parking lot is cramped and maze-like, their aren't nearly enough handicapped spots for those with real ambulatory issues. Drivers should SLOW DOWN and watch for pedestrians always. Store employees are very helpful and and help with getting bulky items into carts. Very popular after-church family shopping period on Sundays, but opening hours always less crowded. read more

We went here 8/18/2016 and we needed a battery. We were first told by a gentleman that he would get someone to help us. He did not. Then we asked a lady in the CUSTOMER SERVICE area for assistance. She was no help; all she told us is that was not her area and they are short staffed. And that they will see us in the cameras. There were no cameras in the area we were at. We thought of telling her that was not our problem. But we kept our cool. We already found the battery we needed all we needed was to pay for it and have someone put it into our cart. After standing there for about 10 minutes we finally got a gentleman that would assist us better than the other 2 people. And about 2 minutes later we finally got the help we needed. I really like this Costco in Santa Maria. Driving up to the parking lot seemed overwhelming. But once inside the building it wasn't as crowded as it seemed out side. I like scanning my card as I walk in it makes checking in faster. I walked near the womens clothes and found more than I needed to buy. They have something for everyone. At the check out the cashier was fast. I asked for a box to place my things in. I guess they don't put your purchases in them because they count you items at the door on your way out. read more

We've been satisfied Costco members for years. We get all of our prescriptions there. We also stock our fridge with their products. Their chicken bite and tempora shrimp are two of our favorites. I love going to Costco, and I've never been to a Costco. I didn't like. But I can't stand this one. Santa Maria Costco is like hell. There are parking lot is really bad as far as trying to get in or get out. The place is also completely filled with families that find it necessary to bring every member of every generation with them. Strangely, there is garbage in the parking lot all the time everywhere. I enjoyed that this Costco wasn't too packed even on a Saturday. Gas lines here moved very efficiently and didn't have to wait long at all. Stop by during my visit to Santa Maria. I bought a few items and went through self-check. I rang an item that was more than the posted sign. "Justin" the supervisor was indifferent over the mistake by Costco at overcharging customers. I asked for a manager, "Dianna" came over. My complaint is that Justin did not apologize and was indifferent to me and my wife. Dianna did correct the problem. I called Costco Corp. to relay my experience and was told that Management are told that they do not have to apologize, even if they overcharge you. WOW, that's unbelievable. So we needed gas and it was going to be iffy if we were going to make the SLO Costco so we stopped a little early and being the Costco fiends we are stopped in for a quick look. It was you basic, albeit large, Costco. It follows the typical setup most have with electronics, then household items, then food, then medicine/vitamins etc. The center was seasonal items and clothes. One nice thing about this is the food court is outside the warehouse so it really helps de-conflict things. As I stated in my review of the the Mountain View location, we do have some rules to help keep our obsession under control: 1) NEVER EVER go in hungry. That 25 gallons of dill pickle chips is much easier to resist on a full stomach.... true story there. 2) Avoid the free samples. People seem to lose their minds with this stuff. They abandon carts with crying babies, block isles, etc all to get that tiny portion of hummus. I have been shoved aside by someone desperate to get a free piece of cheese. Honestly I have seen more dignity from actual starving people in a disaster zone but I digress. 3) Avoid the weekends like the plague. 4) See #1 5) Go often. Costco uses alot of psychology and the fear of missing out is one of them. Odd items you must have pop up then go never to return. I CAN'T MISS OUT AGGGGGGG 6) Know your codes: At costco any price ending in 0.97 means it has been marked down. Any price that is not a 0.99 or .97 such as say 0.49 means it has a manufacturers discount. and price with an * aka "The Death Star" on it means its done and will not be reordered so stock up. If it ends in a .00 or a 0.88 a manager has reduced the price at that location to clear it out. 7) When in an unfamiliar city head to the Costco. They always stock local items you can't find at yours (like two pounds of single origin Kona coffee for 30.00 at the Kilaua / Kona store etc.) and have cheap gas. (Same on Kauai) read more

Prices are going up, and the quality of service at Costco (Santa Maria) is going down. We just got back from one of our bi-monthly shopping sprees at the store and found that there is a three-dollar error on our receipt! I know that isn't much, and it does not equal even one percent of what we spent-- but there was A SIGN ON THE FOOD ITEM SAYING THAT THE SAVINGS WOULD BE TAKEN OFF AT THE REGISTER!! So, apparently, these yummy-looking chicken enchiladas were not selling fast enough so Costco staff put up a sign, right over the refrigerator section saying "THREE DOLLARS OFF TOTAL, TO BE TAKEN AT THE REGISTER". Kind of like a promise, right...but it did not happen. So, really, more like a rip-off. So don't believe any special signage at this store. These guys will cheat you to make an extra buck or two. read more

Price of tires can't be beat. But after ordering and paying for them online, I still had to physically go in to make an appointment. The online system didn't work and after calling on the telephone three times I was never connected to the tire department. So after making my appointment I showed up 15 minutes early to wait in line another 30 minutes. After leaving my vehicle with them, I received a text an hour later advising my vehicle "was ready for pick up." I was dropped off an hour after that to find my vehicle with no wheels on it. Could've been a simple human error? IDK, but they should make the process a bit smoother. I'll just leave it at that. The end product was great though. read more

This review is for the gas station. Not much space to line up behind those people pumping due to a barrier in the back. However, the line moves fairly quickly with 24 gas pumps (8 lanes; 3 pumps per lane). I like how this Costco has the light indicating which pumps are occupied and which ones are available. This was definitely a better experience over the one I had yesterday at the San Luis Obispo Costco gas station. Regular gas here was $5.69/gallon, which is cheaper than $5.79/gallon I paid the day before at Costco San Luis Obispo. Since this Santa Maria location was easier to get in and out of, I will definitely choose this location over Costco San Luis Obispo next time I need to gas up in the area (during a road trip to/from Santa Barbara or further south). read more

She harassed my boyfriend and I at self checkout, accusing us of stealing items because they were never scanned, when in actuality we were only half way done unloading our cart. Pretty much bothered us the entire time and only backed off when a manager told her to because he saw we clearly weren't doing anything other than just trying to scan our items. One time I found in this place a Japanese green tea below regular price elsewhere! This time I found Calrose rice. Costco limits this rice to where it deems more rice consumed area. Other brands of rice will be substituted for this brand based on what ethnicity lives in the area. I like the challenge to discover what each Costco will provide to its local population. So, next time if you happen to be in a Costco, try to play the game of discovery to find the exotic foods & unique items to specific geography while enjoying your saving that Costco will provide you on your bulk-shopping. I love Costco and spend a lot of money there most every month! Yesterday I filled my cart up with at least $300 worth of goods. I parked my cart near the self check out stand to use the rest room before checking out. I came back only to find my cart gone. I was shocked and bewildered as I had just spend 45 minutes filling it. I asked the associate and she simply said "oh that's the area where items are placed to be returned back to the shelves". The Costco store itself is great, but their hearing aid department has the rudest people I have ever dealt with working there. You have to make an appointment just to ask a question. My wife bought a pair of hearing aids there, a part broke off and they had to "order" the part, been almost a month, no part yet. I was in the store shopping, just wanted to ask if the part came in yet and the Manager of that department said they were "too busy" to look it up, I would have to make an "appointment" just for them to talk to me ? Oh my goodness, my review is 4 years old and pertains to the old locations. It's time for an update! MAJOR IMPROVEMENT - huge lot and LOTS LOTS of gas fill up stations. During non-peak hours, I can usually pull right up to a pump without wait. Oddly enough, this Costco is ALWAYS so popular that even the new huge parking lot tends to be FULL. Not "Bay Area - circle around for 10 minutes full", but "walk from the opposite end of the row FULL." The food court is outdoors which is probably part of the reason this place is always packed. The store itself is typical Costco? The inventory tends to be pretty good albeit limited on some more ethnic foods options that you may find in more diverse city hubs. Very busy Costco location in Santa Maria, which we thought would be the closest to our weekend destination in Morro Bay. We were there the weekend before Thanksgiving. Shopping for a few last minute groceries was on the agenda, i.e., a big salmon steak for Dear Hubby to marinate and grill for a family gathering. The "big fish" was a hit. Tender, moist, and large enough for a crowd. While DH was staking out the perfect fish, I sampled a few of the freebies they give out to entice you to buy new things you wouldn't otherwise. Did end up getting some gluten-free snack chips. While I didn't get the hummus to go along with the chips, probably should have, as it was very tasty. We picked up a few other miscellaneous items, then hit the checkout lines. That's always the biggest challenge at shopping Costco (that and keeping control of spending!), but it went fairly painlessly. We also fueled up at their adjacent gas station. That was pretty busy, too. We also stopped on the return trip south, though I tried to urge DH to pick a less jammed station, since we didn't need that much gas in our rental car. What can I say? The man likes saving money on gas. This is a popular venue, so bring your patience and good cheer when you go shopping, so that you can emerge in a decent mood. read more

Rudest Costco I've ever experienced. This time was the worst. I mistakenly bought a TurboTax kit in Goleta without the code so I called them stone it's 45 minutes from my house and they said I could go to Santa Maria 35 minutes away, as long as I had the case and receipt. I spoke to a lady who immediately went to her supervisor. A lady with dark long hair and glasses and she said that absolutely could not because of inventory purposes. I proceeded to tell her about the Goleta Costco telling me I could. She continued to shut me down and tell me no another 2 times without any remorse or empathy. Couldn't care less that I drove 35 minutes to return this. I grabbed my product from the counter and walked away in anger and as I was about to exit she condescendingly said well I was going to give it to you. Why refuse me over and over again until I walked away upset. I'll never go back to this Costco again. read more

This was my first bad experience at any Costco. After getting gas and doing some shopping (as always getting WAY more than I came in for) I wanted a quick hot dog to hold me over 'til dinner, as we had another stop and an hour drive. The line looked reasonable - maybe even on the short side, and the new order kiosks should speed things up. At least it worked at a couple other Costcos. Not here. They were using the kiosks only to take payment, and didn't start orders until someone got to the front. The staff seemed dazed and confused, walking around aimlessly instead of taking and filling orders. What would have been a five minute wait at other Costcos I've been to ended up taking 45 minutes! I would have gladly walked away from my $4.50 without the hot dog, drink and Smoothie had my wife not insisted we needed to get what we paid for. When we finally did get to the front, I asked the lady whether they were always like this. She looked at me confused and said, "Like what?" I said, "Incredibly slow." She said they had a lot of pizza orders, unapologetically. I will never use this food court again, and other than the gas station, will probably avoid this Costco entirely. The parents were there he could've just asked the parents and accused them of stealing while they held the receipt to their stuff. I usually leave the items in my cart with the barcode facing up and put the oddball items on the conveyor belt. I guess each checker has their own way of doing things. I'm at Costco quite often. I have never come across what I experienced the last time I went. Purchased some top block for an upcoming family gathering. I could see the fat on one of the chunks in each of the two packs I bought. When I got it home and opened it, I was shocked at the amount of fat they left on each piece of meat. The butchers should be ashamed of themselves. When it was all said and done, I removed the same amount of fat weight as meat weight. Just ridiculous to say the least. I feel completely ripped off. Costco Eye Glasses and Vision Testing Both departments are busy, but worth it. The prices and the customer service can't be beat. Eye testing equipment is State-of-Art. (No eye dialating.) The staff is friendly and professional. You get what you need in an amazing turnaround timeframe. There is one "Special-Special" in the eye-glasses department. She was so attentive, so patient, so professional, so knowledgable, and amazingly friendly. She made me feel like we were pals. NANCY. I gave a list of needs; she gave me a list of options beyond my wildest expectations. She confered with her supervisor, reassured me I wasn't being a pain, and showed me frame after frame that matched my face. She listened to me. It was so busy, but she gave me her full attention. She recommended a tint that would tamp down fog, rain, and headlight issues. Oh! Those glasses are wonderful! I would have never known. I bought them in addition to the other 2 pair of glasses. Nancy took time to adjust and clean my 3 pair of beautiful glasses when I returned for pickup. She is an asset to the department, to the company, and especially to the client/customer. She deserves an accolade or 4 (million). What a wonderful experience! Tickled, and appreciative. Thank you, NANCY! You have such a beautiful soul! You handle those pliers like a pro!
