What I like best is a box of half a dozen medium free range eggs that looks no different to the large size, for 79p and 100% pure squeezed orange juice with juicy bits NOT from concentrate for 95p. Lovely and spacious and much more choices available than other branches I have been too (Camden Town, Old Kent Road), and lots more items on offer and available. I was able to find items that are not stocked in their other branches, i.e. dessicated coconut, sweet and crunchy red peppers, chorizo, Italian pastries, almond biscuits etc. Every week they have special household items on offer, like rugs, shoes, lighting, shelves, garden tools, kitchenware, camping products, vacuum cleaners, and only available that week while stocks last and only available in the larger branches. If you are not into branded goods, you can halve the price of your weekly shop.

No matter which location you go to, you'll always find the same low price international food and OK-looking fresh groceries in its characteristic apocalyptic setting. Oh, and those eternal till queues. This location is medium-to-big-sized, well connected with buses and parking, and I reckon they had most of the items from their weekly promos. Perfect for satisfying Euro expats & anyone who'd rather spend their pennies at the pub instead of "fancier" food from Sainsbury's/Tesco. Do your big shopping here instead!

I prefer this store to many other branches of Waitrose, the store has a good feel to it, and it is in a useful location within a large shopping centre, meaning you can pick up essentials or even do a weekly shop while picking up the rest of your shopping across the mall. They have handheld scanners at the front of the store, meaning you can scan as you walk around the score, or use the QR code for mobile scanning. This is a handy feature more and more stores are offering now, but Waitrose seem to do it well, rather than playing hide and seek with the QR codes (I'm talking about you Sainsbury's) or forgetting about a mobile app altogether (I'm talking about you Tesco) Obviously, the prices are slightly higher than other supermarkets as Waitrose is a more premium brand, but they do have some products where the pricing is reasonable/competitive, the free-from range could be much better, which is the main reason I prefer Marks and Spencer at the other end of the mall. The staff are friendly enough, as typical of John Lewis Partnership stores. 4* - A very good supermarket and a great, unique addition to Westfield Stratford City.

Fantastic ethnic cooking section chock full of sauces, ingredients, grains, rices, beans and any element you probably need, spices, decent bakery with breads, rolls, pitas, etc. Eggs and dairy, beer, wine, a lot of coconut water, and a fresh produce section (outside) which is standard, but nice to have. Things you won't find: fresh meats or fish. Par for the course! The family that runs it is very friendly as well (always so polite!) and I always leave feeling quite good about supporting a local food shop that is not only convenient, but tucked away from the madness of the Old Street roundabout. Fed up because the store keeps moving the stuff around to stimulate impulse purchases? ;-)) Hacked off by people standing yacking in mid-aisle to enrich their shopping experience? Suffering from arthitis/rheumatism/an old war wound? Several supermarkets do home delivery in many areas (e.g. Asda, Tescos). I've tried all of them, but Sainsbury's are by the far the best IMO. Maybe not the cheapest, but I think the best value. You can login 24/7. Then you have find out whether you are in fact within their catchment area, and register to provide the usual details. Having done that, you first have to agree a delivery window, which you can select (best to go to the site about 4 days prior to delivery for maximum delivery slots). So you're ready to rock! You click your way round their 'e-aisles' and 'add to basket' as required. This takes a while first time round, but it adds your purchases to your My usuals log, which will show up next time you login. All that happens then is that you remember to be at home and wait for them to cruise round. You have reduced your carbon footprint and saved yourself a lot of grief! ;-) It costs £6 per delivery, but if they are late, you don't pay. They will make suggested replacements which you can either accept or send back. These are usually O.K. You will also instantly see what is on special offer (e.g. at the time of writing for example, wine is 25% off! For the benefit of the geekish I am sure that they use CRM software to log transactions, because the number of our suggested replacements seems to just go down and down. There is little in the way of multi deals. Every item is about 20p more expensive than every other Sainsbury's local store. I have never seen anything reduced in this store. The cashiers manage to give me incorrect change often and I got very upset one day when I had to buy a six pack of tomatos in excess packaging when I only needed one. Oh and finally the guy 'cooking' in the bakery can be spoken to through the shelves and he will often say 'no more' no more' just when you have got the fillings for the bagel, roll or baguette you want to buy. It is unbelievable that the head office is above this poor example of a store.

They used to have a independent flower stall inside but decided the space would better serve a trolley park... They have the obligatory coffee stop, which I have never used so can't comment on. They stock all you expect to see in a Sainsburys, they have recently added a petrol station onsite which is useful as no longer will you have to drive to Purley or Bell Green to redeem the vouchers you get which makes petrol slightly more affordable. The thing to be aware of with this Sainsburys is that it is shares a site with Crystal Palace FC (come on you Eagles). So on match days the store closes early as the car park is over run with cars from supporters from both sides, they will generally close an hour or so before kick off and open back a similar time after it. They have also installed a time limit on using the car park, it's an automated system which reads you license plate as you drive in and tells you how long you can stay for free. I have no idea what happens if you stay over this...apart from some kind of fine I guess. Also on a Sunday be aware that whilst they open at 10am you cannot purchase anything before 11am.

The nearest Asda for example (which is about four times the size) does not have a fresh fish counter at all. The range of fruit and vegetables is excellent, and all from reasonably local sources. An extensive wine department can be found at the back of the store, which is better than some dedicated local shops like Threshers. The staff are all very helpful, and will even make wine recommendations. Some complain that Waitrose is expensive. However, if you compare like for like products Waitrose is actually very competitive. But they don't sell any lower quality or value products, so if you do go here for every shop then it will end up costing more. They also don't have as many special offers as some of the other supermarkets. Fresh flowers are located at the front of the store if you are looking for a gift, and they also have a reasonably large magazine section.
