First impression? Let's just say I felt like one of their grandchildren--- adopted grandchild from the city of Chicago who just wanted to break into tears in their arms and be told everything was going to be okay. - Stayed 2 nights in "Room 2"- faced the lake where we were able to watch the sunset...also had more windows, a canopy bed and a more modern decor. - Each bedroom had a private bathroom which was a PLUS! They also have a 2-bedroom cottage that they rent out next door. - Small TVs w/ VHS players in rooms (I know! VHS!). they had a bunch of VHS tapes in the hallway aka their VHS library. I kind of thought that had a really cute feel to it...really made me feel like a kid again. Just a great feeling to get away from it all into this B&B and keep things stress-free and SIMPLE! - Right across the street from the lake! Also just a few minutes away to Nagoya (habachi dinner) and Mon Ami Winery (seafood buffet and winetasting!). - Hosts provided us w/ maps and recommendations for restaurants- not much to do in Port Clinton in the middle of October but we made the most of it! - Jerry baked for us every morning! Breakfast was great consisting of fresh fruits, sausage links, french toast, homemade waffles, muffins between the two nights all served on really cute gold lined plates! - They have a massage lady that comes in by appointment, but she wasn't available when we needed her so we ended up getting massages in downtown Port Clinton. Overall a very homey experience! I shall return for a relaxing weekend of my own :). Maybe for the next winetasting event in Port Clinton?! Would love to stay here over the summer and get some writing/reading done.

I've been staying at The Inn for nearly 20 years. I feel as if Pat and Lori have become friends…read moreduring that time. The only reason I don't give The Inn a five-star rating (because I love it enough to, personally) is that I realize I'm biased. So in fairness, here are the pros and cons. Pros: Wonderful, historical home that has been in the innkeeper's family since it was built. The ambiance to go with it! Antiques everywhere, interesting bits and pieces of the history of the island, cozy rooms with air conditioning or fans as you prefer, and windows that open. A view of the lake from the front, and more privacy from the rear of the house. Check out the reading nook on the second floor. Free Wi-fi. Continental Breakfast. You can put a small amount of perishable food in the fridge/freezer but not a whole lot, as the innkeepers live in the house. Lovely gardens, which Pat tends; especially his dahlias! Wait until you see them. Some are huge. You'll see. hummingbirds for sure! The front porch, which faces the lake, with a view of Cedar Point. You could see bald eagles, cormorants, geese, ducks, ospreys, and if you're there at the right time. Baltimore oriels, loons, and much more. Pat is knowledgable about the wildlife of the island, and will, for a small fee, take visitors to see unique features such as the Alvar. In season you can attend bird bandings -- ever seen a saw whet owl? Did I mention Lori's epic brownies, that she makes most afternoons? Yum! There is a private beach, but it's down some pretty steep stairs and rocky. But once down there, the water is very pleasant. Watch for endangered Lake Erie water snakes. Harmless, but they can startle you. You might find beach glass or pottery sherds from shipwrecks! Great conversations can be had here, and friendships made. The Inn was freshly painted this year and looks wonderful! Cons: The steps to the second floor are very steep, so if that's a problem, book one of the two first floor rooms. You'll share the bathrooms with other guests. I don't mind, but I know some people do, so keep that in mind, too. Kelley's Island is possibly my favorite place in the world, and The Inn one of my favorite places, too. In my heart, this is a five star stay, but it meets with my personal standards. It's a very old house, so if you're someone who wants everything new and shiny, probably not your place. But if you love atmosphere, excellent conversation, old books, antiques, front porch sitting, and the sound of the lake lulling you to sleep, it's for you!

The house is part of the family heritage of the current owners.It needs some TLC and I'm sure it would be a lot of work to bring it up to any kind of a five star rating but it's got a comfortable atmosphere . We made arrangements on the phone with Cindy to reserve all 6 motel rooms, the pavilion and the attached 3 BR house. The motel rooms: Each had something different to offer. All were very large. All had fridge, microwave, full size drip coffee maker and 2 queen size beds. Room 2 had a kitchenette and room 6 has a sliding glass door with a small patio and view of the sunset. We were there in the very beginning of the season and the motel rooms were a bit "musty". We live near the ocean so we knew what to expect when a property is closed up for a period of time and brought some diffusers and essential oils. This made everything perfect. I imagine as the season rolls along, the musty-ness goes away. The towels and linens were great and the pillows very comfortable What to bring when staying in the motel: coffee and condiments, coffee cups, hair dryer, cooler for ice or bring some extra plastic ice cube trays, bathrobe. You don't get the fancy, extra swag that you get at the high priced hotels. The attached house: All linens and towels were provided and checked on every day. Plates, glassware, cups, pots and pans, silverware, drip coffee maker, tea kettle, and a few serving pieces are provided. There is one ice cube tray in the full size refrigerator. Full size washer and dryer. We bought bags of ice at the marina down the street. There is also a growing (I'm assuming) amount of stuff that people leave. Foil, baggies, laundry detergent, paper plates, paper towels ice etc. I wouldn't depend on those things, but maybe call Cindy the day before you leave to see what's there so you don't drag it there. We liked having a large cooler for beer and extra ice. There is a gas grill and a picnic table on one patio, an enclosed porch with seating and an outside porch with seating. Also a nice size "mud room" with lots of storage and places to hang jackets and purses. Beach chairs are provided down at the beach as well as fire wood for fires. There is plenty of green space for out door games. The pavilion: This is the jewel of the property!!!!!! IT IS STUNNING! Inside has a bar and full size refrigerator. And plenty of room for tables. We set up our food tables (3 6 ft tables) and there was still plenty of room. I couldn't tell if there was AC. The temp was very comfortable. This building has a covered outside area that comfortably seats at least 30 people. Round black wrought iron tables and chairs. About 6 or 7 low top tables that could seat 5. Below the covered space is an open deck that had a mixture of low top tables and high tip pub wrought iron tables and chairs. Could seat another 30 people at least. THE BEST PART OF THIS AREA IS THE NIGHTLY SUNSET. THERE ARE NO WORDS!!!!! Cindy, our hostess: Where would we be without her????? I hate to think. She was engaging from the get go in December. She helped us narrow down the caterer, rolled along when we changed the guests in the motel rooms, we changed the number of nights several times and was at our beck and call the minute we arrived. If she was leaving for the day, she would say "just give me a call if you need anything"!!!! She helped us haul all of our stuff down to the pavilion for the celebration, and kept the trash cans from overflowing. She did everything very unobtrusively. Hardly knew she was there. Cindy was so friendly and helpful. A true hostess! We have decided to replicate this trip (without the funeral part!) every 2 years to meet up with friends and relatives. Can't beat the value, accommodations or especially the hospitality! Would live here year round if I could!

A fire pit and a pile of wood was even available for our use, along with plenty of lawn/beach chairs. This is a traditional "motel" (Not hotel) setup, but with only 6 units, it felt more private, and with much cleaner and larger rooms than normal, and homey accoutrements, not to mention a full size refrigerator, which was invaluable to my family of 4, since we were there for 4 days. We spent 2 days on the beach relaxing and 2 at Cedar Point, which is less than a half hour away. Lastly, Patti, the owner, with whom you personally deal throughout your entire experience, is a delight! Friendly, unpretentious, thorough, and obviously caring. If/when we ever come back this way- we will call Patti. For the location, beach, and local family ownership- I can't imagine more bang for the buck.

After checking in on 7/2/18 with my emotional support animal (I suffer from anxiety and have my Yorkie registered with supporting documentation), my boyfriend and I went out to explore the island. As we returned in the evening, the hotel manager informed us that she was leaving a voicemail in regards to our animal, as well as being a "non-couple" in the same room (Ahoy Inn only allows couples to rent a room). I advised the woman that we were indeed a couple, and her demeanor immediately changed to being rude after finding out I identify as a gay male and have a boyfriend. After this encounter, I was then advised my boyfriend and I would need to leave the hotel immediately (it was 9PM at night) as the premises does not permit emotional support animals. Come to find out, the manager later disclosed they do in fact have "specific" rooms for couples staying with emotional support animals, but the room we paid for and were staying in was not one of them. Ahoy Inn refuses to refund payment on a room which was occupied for less than 6 hours, and put us in the position to have to leave the island the same night to try and find a room (being the week of the 4th everything on the island is booked). I am appalled and disappointed at the treatment from Ahoy Inn. Not only do I feel as though I was being discriminated against for being a homosexual couple, I was further discriminated against by not being allowed to stay in a hotel which accommodates emotional support animals, just not in my specific room.

The inn was comfortable with plenty of seating on the first floor for chatting. They have fire pit just across the street by the lake. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the nice weather and fire with Cedar Point off in the distance. Our room was cozy and well appointed. We had a super comfy bed and our own bathroom with shower. Sheets and blanket were perfect. Breakfasts were delicious and meticulously made with ingredients from their garden. My favorite was the frittata with veggies. Coffee, tea and water available 24/7. A nice place we'd happily return to on our next trip to the island.

They did not have central air conditioning in the room, so if you like to control the temperature please make note of that. The second floor rooms do seem to get a little warm, but we turned on the fan and opened the windows to catch a lake breeze. The property is about one mile from the ferry marina and the downtown area. A lovely on-island stay.
