My family and I had a wonderful time at the Beacon b&b! Kelly was very attentive to anything that we needed or questions. We stayed for a total of 7 days, enjoyed the beach and it was close enough to cedar point that we spent a day there. The house was cozy the beds were very comfortable! The location as advertised doesn't come anywhere close to what the property actually has to offer!!! The home needs some of work and the host/owner knows it. The property is staged to entice people to rent but things such as bedding are old and appears to be unclean. The lounge chair is old, worn and obviously nasty. The pipes are also visible in the closet that run from the adjacent bathroom. There are signs posted that warn guest of items that are in need of repair. There wasn't anything to make a guest feel welcome (bottle water, complimentary fruit, etc). Once I arrived and realized I had been bamboozled I immediately called Kelly and told her I wasn't satisfied (after traveling over 12 hours) but she still refuses to refund my full amount. Fantastic house! Fantastic price! Fantastic location! I was very happy with being able to sit on the porch, drink my coffee and look at Lakeview park. Next door was a park that I could play tennis at or take my kids to play. Kelly is super sweet!! 35 min from Sandusky and Cedar Point! 5 min to downtown Lorain! If I ever come back u can bet my family and I will be staying here again! read more

The owner owns two adjacent B&Bs in Lorain. We had the misfortune of staying at 'A Beach Cottage' next door to The Beacon. While the location is positive, that was the only thing 'good' about our experience. Our property had only ONE point of entry/exit (which is against code). When I reviewed the property and sited this issue, the owner said there was one door that had a sign marked 'private' on it that was a door to the attached garage. When looking for another exit, we had opened the door, but there was so much in front of the door that by no means could it have been used as an exit. The rental was not cleaned before our arrival (we found dirty towels and washcloths under our beds as well as in the bathroom drawers), a dining room light fixture with exposed wiring that was not well-secured to the ceiling, a filthy couch in the living room, unswept floors, an unstable stair to the basement, water in the basement, and a living room rug that smelled like urine. After looking at other reviews from the past 3 years, all of these issues (aside from the rug smelling like urine) are outstanding and not new issues. The owner has made many excuses for them not being completed (money, family conditions, inability), but at 3 years later, none of the repairs have been resolved. We also walked through the Beacon B&B and that property was worse than ours. The kitchen cabinets (including the lowers, in the reach of children) had jagged edges and unfinished trim. The bathroom on the first floor wasn't working. The shower on the second floor leaked into the kitchen, and has according to past reviews for years. When I questioned the owner on this, she said she had spent $1,000 trying to resolve the leak but determined it to be the fault of misuse on the guests, in essence passing the blame. If your property is not in good working condition, you pull it off the market until it can be resolved, not continuing to rent it out in bad condition. The steps on the front porch did not have a good hand rail and were dangerously slanted. There were nails sticking out of multiple door frames on the 2nd floor. The house had been rented out in an unclean condition; in addition to dirty floors and bathrooms, there was lipstick writing on the mirrored doors in the attic including song lyrics and curse words. Minimal upkeep has been done on both of these properties; they are in very tired and dirty condition. Many hazards exist for one's safety. It would take very little to make these places great, but the owner has been unwilling to do so for years, including becoming quite defensive when I questioned some of the conditions after our July stay. I would caution against either of these B&Bs since it seems unlikely based on past reviews and our experience with both of these properties you will find them in good condition. read more

Stayed one night paid for 2 couldn't stand it left the next morning. The house is dirty. Couldn't sit on the front porch furniture filthy as well as the back porch filthy, the woman had the nerve to stay well the weather, really the weather was In The high 50s when you have ppl coming to enjoy your "million dollar view" as you call it they want to sit outside no excuses for your ignorant response. Plus the street is 4 lanes and all you hear is cars!!! House stank like old mold, couldn't open the kitchen window for air as they were so dirty dirt flew in from the filth. The rug under the dining table was so dirty you couldn't even see the white part, so dirty is black. She claims she offers a free small breakfast and coffee the first morning, that didn't happen. She is so cheap she left one garbage bag had to buy some. The plastic ugly fake plants full of dust. She was suppose to give us some our money back well that never happened, she never responded to the message that was sent. This is a very old run down house. Go stay at a hotel you will be better off. This isn't vintage it's garage sell stuff or stuff from her house she didn't want. What a disgusting place, you really should be ashamed to rent out such a dirty house to ppl with expectations based on your lies. I could keep on but she knows what it is. Disgusting!!! I stayed there for a month and didn't want to leave. The place is private, clean, and the beds are very soft and cozy. She kept me stocked with extra towels and necessities for the entire stay. I can't wait to stay there again. read more
