My previous dental history: I have had straight and healthy teeth. Some grinding wear due to bruxism (I have had since childhood, but wear a mouth soft guard to prevent damage at night, and I have worn it since adolesence). I have always seen a dentist 1-2 times a year since childhood for preventative care. When I was a child and teen I had 3 cavities, which have been filled, but other than that, an otherwise healthy dental history. No wisdom teeth present, etc. No pain or issues. My Review of my visit: Pros -the office staff were friendly and professional. The office was clean and welcoming. Dr. Julie Buchanan was friendly. Cons - was told by Dr. Buchanan that I needed full veneers. Was told that I should have all of my previous fillings taken out and replaced, because they were "old and may fall out sometime". The quote was thousands $$$$$$. I have never had another dentist request that I receive veneers and replace of all my fillings. They have always told me my teeth were healthy. They asked when I wanted to set up a time to do that. I did not set that up and did not come back. After my appointment with Dr. Buchanan I received 2nd opinions. I was told none of those procedures would be necessary. I continue to see a dentist 1-2 times per year for regular preventative care. Fast forward 6-8 years. I did not get veneers and did not replacing my old fillings. No pain and I am healthy. Fillings are still there and causing zero issues. I am told I have healthy and straight teeth. Felt like I was being sold something $$$$ I didn't need.

He was very vocal about delivering his opinion in an open area with other patients and made me feel terrible. All he did was refer me to a periodontist. I have since found out I have an autoimmune disease which causes inflammation and blisters of the gums. I would think a dentist would know the difference between a disease and gingivitis!! I have since found a caring dentist who knew exactly what was happening and I am being treated with respect and compassion.

I saw Dr Tyler today for a toothache. After some testing and X-rays, he determined that I needed a…read moreroot canal. He was sooo kind explaining everything that he was doing and checking on me often to make sure I was ok. I felt very confident that I was in good hands the entire time. On a side note, I overheard Dr Tyler being briefed about another patient possibly needing a crown and Dr Tyler said that he would stay late to accommodate the patient. I just thought that was really selfless.

I've seen 2 different doctors who have been great, and my dental hygienists are always gentle and kind. The receptionists are really helpful and seem to care about ensuring I get the care I need. Nobody likes going to the dentist, but I've never had a bad experience at St. George dental. The facility is always clean and there is a gorgeous fishtank in the waiting area. So glad I found this office, and I hope they continue to maintain the same high level of care!

My hygenist I think was Amanda and she was amazing, great with my kids. My second experience was amazing. My hygenist, skye, was so sweet, efficient and was amazing with my kids. Dr. Evans was very professional, honest and great with my kids. He understood that my kids needed to have a positive experience and he was so sweet with them. Skye did such a good job accommodating us and was able to get my little one to get her first x rays and my other's first teeth cleaning and walked them through it so beautifully! So happy with my experience!

Unfortunately, the clinical experience was disappointing. The X-rays were grainy with overlap, making them difficult to interpret clearly. Despite this, Dr. Miller stated I "clearly" had an infection and relied on an AI overlay that changed the appearance of the image rather than pointing to definitive findings on the original image. Most concerning, no clinical exam of the tooth was performed--no instruments were used. Additionally, the X-rays were taken by a dental assistant who stated she did not complete an xray course and being a DA (dental assistant) rather than an RDA (registered) raises concerns about compliance with Utah regulations. (Requirement for X-rays- To legally take dental X-rays in Utah, a dental assistant must complete one of the following: * A board-approved dental radiology course, OR * A CODA-accredited dental assisting program, OR * Pass the DANB Radiation Health & Safety (RHS) exam ) Turned out when I got a second opinion it was a gingival abscess which doesn't usually show up on X-rays and is easily treated compared to a periapical infection which would need a root canal or extraction. The dentist could have discovered this by looking inside my mouth rather than relying on technology alone! Overall, while I appreciated the prompt scheduling, I did not feel confident in the diagnostic process or care provided. As a dental hygienist of over 15 years, I was shocked that this office feels it is serving its patients well without doing an oral exam. I would NOT recommend this office.

This is after requesting a refund on Feb 2, 2024 for an overpayment made on my initial diagnosis. It is now April 22, 2024 and on Feb 2, 2024 I was told Platinum Dental could not credit my credit card the overpayment because they only issued checks in 4-6 weeks. Sadly they lost a first time customer for being deceptive.
