I-20/I-59 Rest Area near Cottondale, AL

A large rest area with a nice straight and flat ramp off I-20 as you head west from Birmingham towards Tuscaloosa. Easy for the large vehicles to access and there are a few shady spots where you can park. Picnic tables, clean bathrooms and here's the winner: a free wifi network. Welcome to Sweet Home, Alabama!

This is an older rest area which has picnic tables, some with shelters. There is not any playground equipment but there are vending machines available in a sheltered area attached to the building. There is a pet walk area across the road from the building. They also had a really old looking mileage chart, and a weather information button that just begged to be pushed. I like seeing offbeat stuff like that.

This rest area is located along I-20 West/I-59 South and is separate from the Eastbound/Northbound rest area across the interstate. This is an okay rest area. This rest area is dated. It has been kept up, but not to the extent of other rest areas in the state. This rest area is fairly basic. Outside, there are plenty of picnic areas and shade. I didn't stay out long since it was pretty hot. For those that are playing Pokemon GO, there's a gym and pokestop at this rest area. There is a vending area as well for snacks and drinks. Inside, there were a few workers there to answer any questions you may have. I'm pretty sure they're only available during the day. Restrooms are basic and small compared to other rest areas. There was an odd smell in there that I really can't describe, but I was glad I wasn't in there long. Overall, this was an okay rest area. If you need to stop here, just try to make it quick (if going to the restrooms) Outside is the better place to be at this rest area.

I typically love to stop at rest areas after hours of traveling. Just to relax, stretch my legs and collect info on each states attractions. However, I was pretty dissatisfied with their bathroom. I went to the first stall on the right, at that moment I noticed to door handle was bent. At this point I decided to try another stall but a herd of woman ran to all the other available ones and now I'm stuck with this. So, like all women we adjust. I held my left leg to secure it closed, while balancing to remove my clothing. Believe when I say, I discovered a new talent. Afterwards, I went to the desk to let them know of the condition of the stall. The lady said, "oh, it's been broke for months" I suggested a note be put up to let others know...she simply shrugged her shoulders, eyes looking away and wearing a small smug smile on her face, which indicated she's not responsible for that task. My traveling companion, daughter made a quick observation that there were no snack machines. What rest stops don't provide snacks... this one doesn't.

Stalls went all the way to the floor, left no crack in the door when closed, and door was high with hook on back of door.

This time we grabbed the banana pudding and chocolate chip cookies, and both were good. The restrooms really deserve their reputation. They are some of the cleanest you'll find at a gas station, especially considering how many people come through them. We were just passing through, but we're always pleased when we stop at a Buc-ee's.

I really appreciated that they even provide disinfectant and cleaning products so you can wipe down the toilet seat before using it--a small detail that shows they care about cleanliness. The selection of food and drinks is outstanding. Whether you're looking for hot meals, fresh sandwiches, cold grab-and-go items, snacks, or desserts, there's something for everyone. The coffee station is impressive too, with so many creamers, flavors, and toppings that you can customize your drink just the way you like it. I also loved the fresh roasted nuts--warm pecans, cashews, and other varieties that smelled amazing and tasted fresh. The store itself is huge and well organized, making it easy to browse without feeling crowded. As an EV owner, I was especially happy that I could charge my Ford F-150 Lightning while taking a break. Being able to recharge both myself and my truck in one stop made the experience even better. Overall, Buc-ee's is much more than a gas station--it's a clean, convenient, and enjoyable travel stop. If you're passing by, it's absolutely worth stopping.

He use all the 4 letter words except, 'golf'. Although one of his words had a HOLE in it. Upon seeing the room, I felt ashamed to have my wife there. She thought that we could make it work. We took the sheets off one bed so we cover the stained chairs to have someplace to set. We made short of it and went to sleep. The bed had no skirt, old see through sheets and cigarette burns in the blankets. Thankfully we had our own pillows. The floor was???, well we kept our shoes on. During the night, we woke to police or a bounty hunter capturing one of the 'extended stay' guests of the Inn. No shots were fired. We then held each other close until sunrize. The residents of this Motel are not the 'Let's Make America Great Again' working middle class kind. They are more of the self medicating with acohol and controlled substance type. And we suspect that there was some self employment involving sex and drugs. Just as the Vampires were crawling back into their crypts, we were eager to get going. I showered first, during which I as saw something slither past a hole in the bathroom wall. I stuffed a towel (rag) in it. A said nothing to the misses about it. It was probly as afraid of us as we were of it. She got shower without being bitten. We dressed and bailed. A couple hours later we got a nap at a rest stop to make for the fraught night at the Ole' English Inn. You know how years later in life, old memories become sweet, charming, laughable, romantic memories? Well we will remember this Motel. If you are visiting the Ole' English Inn, don't pull the towel out of the hole in the bathroom wall.
