I'm not particularly familiar with the housing situation in Bloomville/Bovina, so I couldn't tell…read moreyou whether or not there are a plethora of houses available that can sleep nearly twenty people...but the carriage house at the Turquoise Barn can. And surprisingly, it can do it quite comfortably. Evidently the Turquoise Barn is the name for this entire compound, which is primarily a bed and breakfast. I can't speak to their breakfast, but I can report that this carriage house and the surrounding grounds are absolutely gorgeous. If you're looking to get out of the city and get away from the grind, you could do a lot worse than this massive, rustic cabin. Especially if you want to do it with a bunch of your clown friends. The carriage house can not only sleep sixteen (be aware that this is with a couple bunkbeds and futons included), but it can also entertain at least that many easily. There is a decent-size kitchen, a long dining table downstairs, as well as another on the back deck...and seeing as how the house is at the base of the mountains, the view is spectacular. The layout of the house itself is rather intelligent, spaced well with a bathroom for each bedroom. Although the finishes are a bit rough, the showers have thankfully been recently updated, and the shower pressure is excellent. As far as I can tell, there are only two real downsides to renting this house: 1. It's not cheap. Sleeping four to a room with some on bunkbeds and some on pullouts, I would've expected to pay a bit less per head. Especially considering... 2. ...There are a lot of rules. Look, I get it. You have a house that sleeps 16, and people tend to get a little wilder in big groups...and it's usually better to tell people what is or isn't allowed up front. But to me, there's something...unwelcoming about being handed a list of regulations after paying a lot of money to stay somewhere. That said, there were only two major rules that really affected our stay: - No shoes in the house. A few members of our party pointed out that it was a big drafty house, and there weren't even carpets covering the floors...they were hardwood. I can understand not wanting mud tracked all over the house, that's just common sense. But if it's dry out? Also, we'd already paid a cleaning fee, which seems like it would earn us the right leave a little dust behind in order to keep our feet warm. - It's a vegetarian kitchen. Or a No Meat, Zone (they know better), if you will.* I can understand that the owners may be morally opposed to animal products and don't want them cooked in their pans, but it's a fact of life that there's nothing better than bacon and eggs to feed a big group of people on a lazy weekend morning. If you can get past the minor inconvenience of their rules, you'll love this house, and you'll love your stay. Falling asleep to the sound of the water from our deck made the experience feel truly special. Even with the cold weather, there were still plenty of activities to keep our family entertained. Between the waterfalls, game room, Netflix, life-sized chess, foosball, air hockey, the Crooked Cabana bar, hot tub, and dry sauna -- this place truly has it all. A special thank you to Chuck for making our Mother's Day weekend even more memorable than we could have imagined. From the cookies and coffee to the kids' welcome packets, every detail reflected warmth and care. We could not imagine a more family-friendly and welcoming experience. Our bagged breakfast was missing a few items we ordered. That really was not ideal, as we had a long drive ahead of us to the city. So we ended up having to stop to get a couple of things since what we planned on having was not there. Also, the wait for someone to be at check in was long. We went to the Stratton falls first accidentally. It's 2.5 miles from where our location was. Apparently, the guy at check in saw us and knew we were at the wrong property (they were full at that location) but didn't tell us when he saw us. (We didn't see him). When my son finally found someone (that guy) he said "I saw you when you came in and knew you went to the wrong place...". Ok.... So you just let us stand around for 12 min, before we went searching for you? He wouldn't even give us more than "it's down the road." Directions to the other place. That guy was an awful first impression. The lady at our location was lovely, but he made the initial feeling stick with me. So, customer service sucked because of him. I had friends that came to meet us from 30 min away and had to wait an additional 20 min thanks to that guy. Would I suggest it? If the service continues like it was... no. Fun themes though. I hear they moved to new ownership, so maybe that's what is going on.

Quaint, clean, welcoming, homey, friendly, and extremely hospitable. Cris the Inn Keeper made us feel at home and even made us breakfast! Location: 15mins from Kaaterskill Falls for Hiking / Catskill Mountains and literally a 10min walk from Hunter Mountain for Fall festivities like Oktoberfest. Also less than 10min drive to the town of Tannersville where you'll find a few restaurants, bars, and shops. There is also a little plaza walking distance that has a bar-Ronnie MacGregor, bagel spot, pizza, etc. We came up from Manhattan so it was about 2hr 15m drive but definitely worth it if you want to get away from the city bustle. There is also ziplining at Hunter Mountain for those interested, essentially lots to do nearby. Accommodation: We had Room #2, it was spacious enough for us 3 girls, clean and quaint. We spent a night here and it was just what we needed. Bed that fit two and Cris set up the pullout sofa bed for us for the 3rd. He made it before we returned from dinner which was really nice. The room has no TV (which is fine since there is one in the downstairs common area) and to be honest you don't want one up here. It's just perfect to wind down/relax - away from all of the usual distractions. Our room faced the back lot but with the colors/fall foliage it was great little view. There is a private bathroom in the room, which was great to have at a small Inn (amenities included body soap, shampoo, and conditioner) included and if you need a hairdryer (just ask Cris). The door closes but not fully shut-an easy fix though. There are also towels (hand / shower ones), extra blankets if needed, there is AC in the room and a dresser. Plenty of outlets too which was great for us and all of our phones/cameras. The bed/sofa bed were a bit stiff / harder than the mattresses we're used to but that was the only critique we really had, not a huge deal breaker for me. We had little mints in the room too which was nice. It seems each room has a different theme or style, I'd recommend you check their direct website for details on the room you book. Sedgwick House Overall: As you drive up you notice it's a cute B&B, well maintained, welcoming, and charming. The sign out front is really cute too! There is a social room that has board games, a TV, books to read, little informational flyers, and is just a nice little area to hang out if you'd like to get out of the room. There is also the breakfast/dining area where you'll find a family style table for breakfast. We ate with 4 other guests of the B&B and it was so nice to actually have a meal with others and socialized (not just eat glued to the TV). It was nice that he made us all breakfast at 9a (he let us pick the time!) which gave us a chance to socialize and meet others that were up for the weekend. You can chose your type of egg, toast, sausage or bacon and there's a variety of yummy jams, orange juice, coffee, tea, etc. There are also a variety of snacks kept out for guests: chips, cookies, water, candies etc. There is also another little room with a fireplace, couch, just hang out area- we didn't spend time in there but took a peek. The decor overall is a more traditional, old school country vibe. There is a really nice front porch with tables and seating and also a little seating area along the side of the house. The girls and I actually took our picnic blanket that we had a laid it outside the front of the house at like 11p to star gaze and it was great, you can see so many stars on a night, clear night, a real treat for city folk. If we would have spent another night I would have loved to just sit on the porch and read- next time! Also very nice views of the mountain from the front of the house. Grounds/grass well managed as well. Also has bathrooms on the lower level towards the back of the house. There is no official Front Desk area, usually Cris will be there so if you arrive and he's not there, he'll most likely leave you his number to call when you arrive as he likes to greet all the guests. There is free Wif too-i we didn't get a chance to ask for the password since we were only there a night and it didn't make a difference but if you think you'll need it be sure to ask when you arrive so you have it. Inn Keeper: Cris is very attentive and wants his guests to be comfortable and feel at home. He was very responsive and puts in a lot of work to make sure the Sedgwick House is kept nice. He runs the Inn with his wife Florentina who I spoke with on the phone to make my reservation and both are very sweet. It's definitely a homey place and one I'd be happy to return to on my next trip. Overall: I'd recommend if your looking for a nice, simple, rustic, country style, charming spot to spend a weekend or few days out of the city. It was also reasonably priced and right

I would suggest the Mary Powell room which comes with a jacuzzi and double shower. The breakfast the first morning was one of the best I have ever had! They offer a 4 course breakfast! Course 1: homemade scone Course 2: fruit bowl Course 3: ciabatta French toast with pear compote and toasted almonds AND bacon Course 4: sorbet The French toast and bacon was seriously out of this world! I wish I had grown extra stomachs to finish it all. The fresh scone was also delicious and was very enjoyable alongside my earl grey tea in Royal Albert China. Unfortunately the main course (Spanish omelette) the next day was only average but I'm guessing that was a spoof. I highly recommend this place for a NYC weekend getaway. It's only a few hours drive, but feels very much like a grand escape. The winter wonderland views from the house are stunning and the town of Saugerties has charming shops and restaurants.

First the good: the property is gorgeous. Nestled on the side of the eponymous hill in the village of Pine Hill, NY. It features several cabins and two vintage airstream trailers, a central green space with a fire pit, a communal lodge and an outdoor hot tub. It's a five minute drive to Belleayre Mountain and a five minute walk down the hill to the downtown area of Pine Hill with a few restaurants. True rustic Catskills coziness. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights during a weekend in February when everything was buried under a foot of snow. A gentleman named Matty found us as soon as we drove in and was incredibly friendly, but that was the last of any employees we saw during the weekend. To the bad: I would not recommend cabin 8. It's a single room with bathroom and shower (no bathtub) at 175 total square feet. My girlfriend and I are not big people and don't mind a small room, but maybe just not for a weekend of skiing/snowboarding as we discovered. With so much equipment and barely any space to put it all save for one bench and a few wall hooks, it's just not ideal. The water pressure in the shower was depressing, especially after a full day on the slopes. At one point in my shower it slowed to a dismal trickle, presumably affected by the sinks/showers in the rooms next door. Cabin 8 has neighbors on nearly all sides. We shared an entrance with those in cabin 7 and could hear them clomping in and out in the evenings/mornings, and could hear them easily through the walls even though they were talking at a reasonable volume. We were bummed that the hot tub was closed all weekend as that had been one of the big draws for us in the first place - the possibility of relaxing after skiing all day. The temperature dropped to -15°F in the night so we understand why it was closed. A fire was set up on Friday night, but the fire pit was too big and the fire too small to make sitting in the chairs comfortable. We had to stand in the fire pit itself two inches from the fire to stay warm. Eventually we got tired of standing and went back to our room. The lodge is definitely nice with its pool and foosball tables. The website mentions an air hockey table, but this was not in the lodge when we visited. A sign on the lodge advertised croissants, bagels and coffee for sale on Sunday between 8 and 11, but when we stopped in at 10:30 the whole place was empty with the lights off. We never did get to see the gift shop as it was closed all weekend. So... not terrible. But at $398 for the two nights, I just don't feel like we got our money's worth. We love the Catskills and might give the place another try if we come back to do some hiking in warmer weather.

For breakfast, you get to choose and order the night beforehand on a very thorough breakfast menu. And they prepare your breakfast right when you arrive at your preferrred time to the kitchen. They have a plate of the freshest sweetest fruits ever waiting for you when you arrive, along with your requested beverage(s)... for us coffee and orange juice. A pitcher of OJ just for you. MMMM. I wonder where they pick the fruits from. Hm. After that, they feed you a croissant (being that I ordered blueberry pancakes), i just stared at my dude begin to stuff himself. And ta da- BLUEBERRY pancakes with BACON. it was so amazing. I'm not fond of big pancakes as it gets dried quick. David Smythe perfected the mini mes with flaky airiness and crispy sides. MMMMM. And perfectly cooked bacon. HEAVENLY. the aroma will also knock you off your feet while you wait. So the next morning, I order it again! This place has been PERFECTION. NOM NOM NOM NOM.
