Urban Cowboy Ranch is an exceptional property. The decor is stunning, the vibe is on point, and the overall hospitality and programming feel thoughtful and well-curated . It's the kind of place you want to linger in. Unfortunately, the dining room didn't quite live up to the setting. We ordered six dishes and genuinely wanted to give every benefit of the doubt, but the food felt underwhelming overall. Nearly every dish was heavily over-seasoned, with salt dominating the flavors. The pasta was overcooked and even saltier than the anchovy itself. The salad was overdressed and salty, the branzino followed the same theme, and the charred sunchokes were crusted with salt to the point of distraction . It left us wondering whether these dishes were pre-shift photo shoot plates or simply not tasting as they should in a live service setting. The creativity and intention seem to be there, but the execution missed the mark on balance. With a lighter hand and more restraint in seasoning, the food could easily match the incredible atmosphere. We'd happily return for the experience--and hope the kitchen fine-tunes the flavors to let the ingredients truly shine . read more

The entire stay was incredible. The welcome drinks & tour of the property was such a nice touch upon checking in. The lobby bar and music were so fun and was exactly what I loved about coming here. My husband and I stayed in the alpine suite and it was stunning from the views to the copper tub. It was so thoughtfully curated. I cant speak on the restaurant because we didnt eat there , but the bartender at the lobby bar made a delicious old fashioned! Definitely recommend for a weekend away. read more

This place was exactly what I wanted it to be -- a beautiful sanctuary with a kitschy cowboy style and friendly staff. We only stayed one night and I woke up the next morning to asking if they had availability for another night but they were all booked. We stayed in the Alpine house in a top corner room with a bath tub, and it was absolutely perfect. The outdoor deck had rocking chairs that looked out to a beautiful hillside. The bed was super comfortable, and the room decor was top notch. We ate at the restaurant that night, had a couple drinks at the bar, and loved the overall hangout communal space. We met some wonderful people we even ended up linking up with back in Brooklyn later in the week. In the morning, I booked the steam room and it was the perfect way to wake up. Not as described. Boutique? Resort? How about a campsite with water and electricity. The bathroom was nice. The AC didn't work , the windows...one opened (no screen)...the window with screen wouldn't open. Dog friendly (I love dogs) not curbed, dog poop on the property grounds. No signs indicating curb your dog or keep on leash. Therefore they were free to roam. The staff was pleasant I don't think their advertising is fitting. It was not at all what I expected. We left after 2 hrs did not spend a single night there. read more

The poor room lighting could not overcome its patterned black wallpaper on the ceiling and walls. We stayed in the 5 bedroom slide mountain house. There were three Bedrooms upstairs with bathrooms in them - each had two queen beds in them. Downstairs there was two king rooms with one bathroom outside. We were welcomed in the lodge with a choice of bourbon or champagne at the bar. The bartender was not very friendly but all other staff were. We ordered at the bar because to sit in the dining room we had to have a pre set menu with the chef with 7 people (above 6 this must be done). The bar has an extremely small menu which consists of a cheese board, a salad, & a burger (the only substantial item). My sister asked the bartender out of the 4 items on the bar menu what he recommended and he said "I don't know what I recommend, I don't know you or what you like!" Lol - We had the burgers which were pretty good! They also had a gluten free bun. We enjoyed the DJ while we ate and the cozy adorable atmosphere with candles in the bar area. Then we went to Ralph's - we enjoyed Ralph's & the margarita pizza but the bowling you have to set up your pins & get your own ball! After Ralph's the concierge came to our house to help us set up the fire with wet wood. It didn't work out too well. On Saturday we went for a walk around the property and we booked the movie room, but the movie room only fit two people. Then at night we went to Peekamoose for dinner, which we really enjoyed. Overall, the slide Mountain house definitely fit a lot of people but the house did look like the 1990's - the kitchen, the carpet, and a clear cut out in the cabinets where the dishwasher used to be. rooms were cozy but all snacks and drinks in the refrigerator came at a significant charge for already expensive accommodations. read more

It was beautiful, and the onsite staff were very nice, but they "Nickle and dime you". No complaints on the cost of the rooms because they were worth it. But they charge for every other little thing including the bath products. I found that very tacky. I respect that the products are high end, but they should still provide at least a complimentary small sample- then sell the larger bags of soap/bath salt in the gift store. There was no way to enjoy the bath which we used twice without opening the extra-large bag of salts which we then had to pay for. I didn't come all the way there to spend money on a nice room with a bathtub to not enjoy it. So we bit the bullet and spent and additional 130 some dollars just to use the products. Please consider leaving a complimentary sample size for paying guests, who can then decide if they want to buy more in the gift shop. It just cheapened the entire experience. read more

We didn't even spend the night there. The field in front of the sauna smelled of leaking septic. There were dog feces all over the place. The only window in our room that opened had no screen on it. There was no AC in the room. The back door was unlocked when we entered. The chairs to the scenic view were right in front of power lines. The tub in our room was dirty with something slimy. The smell in the hallway to our room was so overbearing of dirt and neglect. When asked about food we were told the canteen was available. It was a closet with a few bottles beverages and a couple bars. Then we were recommended Ralph's where after we ate I watched the bartender blow his nose into a napkin then pick up a dish rag and clean the glasses. The staff was very pleasant and nice but overall this was supposed be my birthday weekend away and it ended but being nothing but a long car drive and a huge disappointment. read more

I had no idea what to expect from the Urban Cowboy, but I knew that I was excited to arrive! The photos on the website painted the picture of a great lodge and cabins that really resembled what you would think of when you heard the term "Urban Cowboy". There was plaid, taxidermy, wooden logs, brown leather couches, fireplaces, and more. Plus, a few days before I arrived, I received a creatively written email that fully prepared me for my stay, as it included all kinds of details on amenities, the check-in/out processes, and more. (I also highly recommend using their local area guides, as they were very helpful!) We found the resort on a hill, which was down a small street in basically the middle of nowhere. There was no cell service, but the resort had Wi-Fi. We parked our car next to the lodge and went inside to register. We were told to wait a few moments for a tour of the property and to enjoy a welcome beverage in the meantime. The bar had a hipster hunter vibe with antlers and tree branches adorning its edges. The bartender told us that we could have our choice of cava or Old Forrester Bourbon as compliments of the place. I had the cava, which was sweet and refreshing, while my boyfriend enjoyed the smooth bourbon. We relaxed in the upstairs lounge and finished our drinks. Then, we were then escorted to our room. The Walden Sunrise Bathing Suite included a king-sized bed, a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a patio with 2 rocking chairs, a small table, and a giant Japanese cedar soaking tub for two. The bed was extremely comfortable and felt like you were sleeping on a cloud. The bath products smelled of the woods. There was a small treat area with a mini-fridge with various beverages and a handful of snacks available for purchase. Everything was perfect, and then there was the soaking tub, which was heavenly! It did not have jets, but was heated to 104 degrees, making it a perfect temperature to enjoy for an extended time. In addition to the outdoor bathing, we enjoyed several other amenities back in the lodge. They had a lot of vintage board games, so we challenged each other in a few rounds of Scrabble. We also played billiards in the downstairs den, which was located outside their movie room, which could be rented for $25. The lodge also had a canteen for late-night needs and local trinkets, as well as a gourmet restaurant and the bar. On that Thursday evening, there was a happy hour that started at 5:00 pm and offered a $2-off discount. I tried their Margarita, which was delicious and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Our dinner in the dining room was also a winner. We started by ordering the Weiss Ferments bread plate with pickles and cultured butter. I thought the 3 slices of bread and 4 tiny pickles were decent, but not exactly worth $10. The butter was great, though...When it came to our entrees, my boyfriend simply adored his pasta with pulled lamb, while I enjoyed my Steelhead Trout in a light saffron-coconut broth. There were also mushrooms in the dish, which added texture and earthiness. I also should mention that, while there was a happy hour on that Thursday evening, there were so many other interesting events planned for the upcoming weekend. Friday night offered a live DJ, while Saturday's schedule included yoga, axe throwing, and heavy metal bingo! We were having a wonderful time and thinking the lofty prices for the lodging and restaurant were worth the money until a very rude, young female bartender aggressively informed me that she would not serve me another drink after I had only been served wine with the dinner I purchased in their establishment. As a 56-year-old woman who was not driving, I was offended and asked for an explanation. She became even more condescending and obnoxious. I privately emailed the establishment to express my dissatisfaction and did not even receive a response. As a homeowner of a country home in the area, I will certainly not be recommending this resort. read more

My husband and I came to urban cowboy for an early anniversary dinner. The ambiance is super cool and the staff are all great. I wondered if this was going to be a style over substance kind of place, but we were proven wrong very quickly. We did not stay at the hotel, only ate at the restaurant. The waiter brought us complimentary champagne to start in honor of our anniversary. My husband and I each ordered drinks and they were all delicious. For food, we ordered the pate for an appetizer and it was DELICIOUS. For dinner, I ordered the steak and my husband the pork. Both were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Absolutely zero complaints. We got coffee and the chocolate gateau and root beer float for dessert. Again, everything was delicious. Is the restaurant pricey? Yes, but in this case you absolutely get what you pay for. And to be honest, we've eaten and more expensive places around and have been very disappointed. My experience at the urban cowboy was extremely disappointing. I asked for a room that would be quiet. They put me in the main lodge over the bar where the windows the back of the building where all of the deliveries came in. Plus, the exhaust fan for the kitchen was running 24/7 which was right under my room. The decor and atmosphere is nice, but the service was very disappointing. I would not recommend eating at the bar or the restaurant. The bar had burgers and one other item to choose from, the main dining room had 4 to 5 but it seemed way overpriced. The place has potential, but the service was bad. Seems like the kind of place where the employees are not happy. They are pet friendly, but they have no garbage cans anywhere on the premises to dispose of your dogs poop bags. Any other place I've been that dog friendly has poop and garbage cans throughout the facility. This one does not. I think they are way overpriced for the service that you get. read more

So we stopped here for dinner on our way to a weekend getaway in the Catskills. Boy did it not disappoint. The atmosphere is most definitely hipster chalet chic. The real winner of the night was the fried chicken. Not too complicated of a sandwich but cooked to perfection. The only down side of the place was the menu prices were a tad steep. I stayed in the Forest Haus, in one of the rooms with a Queen sized bed. I believe this is a newer addition to the Urban Cowboy Lodge, and introduces more affordable and dog-friendly rooms. The broad strokes: Overall, this place has a lot of strenghts! My "average" rating is influenced by some of the finer details related to staying at the Forest Haus, but the property as a whole had some real positives, like: 1) The staff! They were all so lovely, warm, and welcoming. 2) The room furnishings! All of the choices, from the bed, bedding, chairs, light fixtures, were super thoughtful and very much in the "urban cowboy" spirit. The bed was so, so comfy, and there was a super cozy robe that they provided as well. 3) The on site restaurant: DELICIOUS! We ate breakfast there one morning, dinner one night at the main lodge, and had a pizza at the onsite pizza place one night. All of the food was outstanding! 4) There were a bunch of different seating areas around the main lodge area. A picnic table by a sweet little creek, chairs overlooking the mountain views, a fire pit area. Even though there were many guests on the grounds, it was set up in such a way that it still felt peaceful and private. While the broad strokes are positive, some of the finer details were not as "on point," including: 1) Throughout the property, there were little stone steps leading to the various sitting areas. We encountered many loose stones, some of which didn't seem glued down at all. We fortunately did not take any tumbles but were surprised by how common it was for us to step onto a wobbly, stone step. 2) The Forest Haus is about a 5 min walk to the main lodge area. There were no sidewalks or pathways for us to walk on - we were walking along the side of the road to get up to the main lodge. The first bit of the walk is along a 40 mph road (it shouldn't be 40 mph - I hope this is changed, I know it's out of the control of the lodge). It felt fine for 2 ablebodied adults. However if I had elderly or young family members with me, I wouldn't have loved this. 3) There is no coffee machine in the room. There may have been a better solution, but I ended up buying a $12 thermos of coffee from the lodge on my first night there. I ended up drinking it each morning for the rest of my trip. I just need caffeine first thing to get going and don't care too much about the temperature, however I would have preferred a different solution, if not an in-room coffee maker. 4) This is for the Forest Haus only - certain details seemed like oversights vs. intentionally rustic. For example, the bathroom in my room was definitely clean, but old and the shower head was spraying water in a way that looked... unintentional? Old? Broken? The carpeting when you walk into the house looks for real from the 1970s? Like not retro carpeting that was installed recently but made to look old. This place isn't cheap. I was surprised. 5) I know this is currently being remediated but for a place that is in the wilderness, some common sense safety preparations were not in place. For example, there are currently bears (a mama and 4 cubs) who live in the nearby woods. They were a common sight. It's not unusual to see bears in the woods in upstate NY in the summer, and we know bears are drawn to garbage. So why is the dumpster set up right outside of the Forest Haus, without a locking mechanism? We literally watched the mama bear open the dumpster, pull out a garbage bag, and start to rummage through it. 24 hours later, the dumpster was still open and garbage left by the bear was still on the ground. I know there are plans to fix that, but I was just struck by the lack of foresight around something so predictable, and potentially dangerous to customers. All of this said, I did enjoy my stay. If I'm in the area, I will go back to the lodge and the pizza shop for meals. However, I would stay elsewhere. It's just weighing the cost/benefits and for me, they didn't match up enough. read more

This hotel has beautiful pictures on their website but I have to say I am extremely disappointed in their management. My wife and family got the flu and we sent an email stating we were sick and asked not for a refund but if possible to change the dates of our trip. We contacted them prior to their 24 hour cancellation policy as stated online. They then stated that their policy is 5 days prior to checking. They did not honor any of this and kept playing games. Little do they know I work for a hotel chain and their occupancy is lower then 60% and they have 24 rooms. This they need every dollar they can make to stay open. I have worked in hospitality for 24 years and have never heard of this EVER. I even offered to give proof from my doctor which is above any beyond any major hotel chain would require. I hope they change their policies to accommodate people who are willing to pay over 600 dollars a night only to be told beat it. read more

The vibes were flowing, food was fantastic, and the staff was 5-Star as always. Love love love this place! It's the perfect gem for the boujee babe that loves the outdoors. It's high end yet welcoming, dog friendly and expansive. The rooms are so eclectic and spacious. I especially loved the copper tub in the middle of the room. The view is amazing to watch while you soak. There is a restaurant on site that is equally amazing. I planned to eat at other restaurants locally but ended up eating here every night of my stay. It was that good. The menu isn't huge so I managed to try about everything. All very good. Shoutouts to the bartender, the drinks were excellent :) The crowd is very "Williamsburg." everyone was friendly. We made a couple new friends around the fire pit. There is also a game room with tons of board games, a pool table and seating to lounge around outside of your room. I can't wait to return here next year! read more

My husband and I made reservations to stay this April we were so excited. We needed a getaway with just us and we decided to spend a lot of money on the room and book the penthouse lodge suite. It's located in the main part of the lodge hotel. The food was delicious the staff was friendly and sweet. It was very very quiet. We hiked, did the sauna. We come to find out on Tuesday night ( the first we would be staying there ) that no staff stays over night (11pm to 7am) they noted that they weren't too far away from the lodge in case of an emergency but they also noted that they do not lock the main doors to the lodge which is where the penthouse lodge suit was located ( the second floor of the main lodge). All doors are open and no staff. We could not sleep the first night and took anything that looked like a weapon next to us to sleep. Instead of escaping from the city and from our normal anxiety. Our anxiety for induced with our night stay. The next day we had a good day but realized that no one again will be staying at the second suite that was next to us. So again us being alone. We spoke with supervisor of guest, Kyle and he offered to move us to the Alphine suite that had some guest in it but those main doors did not lock either. My husband and I decided to leave. Kyle automatically refunded us 223 which we were grateful for but we paid 605 per night for that suite. I called and I emailed and they politely said no to give us more money back. If you're okay with this level of security then this is the place for you ! Other then that no other complaints. read more

I made a reservation for my daughter-in-law and I for December. It was a stay from Friday to Sunday.. I made this reservation in mid April. I paid the deposit and figured I was all set. Fast -forward a couple of weeks and I just received a phone call from the lodge telling me they could not honor my reservation due to the fact that they had a bunch of weddings that weekend and they were requiring a three night stay. I responded by saying that I was not told a three night stay was required when I made the reservation. He said there was a computer glitch and that three nights were required. I said I do not want to stay three nights I want to stay for the two. I was then told I would be receiving all my money back and I had nothing to worry about. I responded with I don't want my money back. I want the reservation and you should honor it, considering your computer misled me to believe that I was all set, and the stay was taken care of. I asked to speak to a manager and the man who I was speaking to told me his name was Bill and he was the general manager. I said to him it would be the responsible and right thing to do for your customer to allow me to have the stay that I booked and paid for. He told me it wasn't possible and I know at the end of the day. He just wanted the room because he has all these weddings and people need accommodations. I've never been to this hotel and I never will be they lost my business for life and anybody who supports them is a complete fool . read more

Visited in November 2022 with my boyfriend for a night. We stayed in the Walden cabin, which was close to the main lodge and convenient for a quick walk to dinner. We dined at the restaurant which we thought was good but limited menu. We explored the game area after and thought it was well equipped but we went around 9pm and found used cups and open bag of popcorn that hadn't been cleaned. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the soaking tub! However we did find what we thought looked like some mold on the shower ceiling. Overall we enjoyed our stay and all the employees were more than helpful and nice. I'd recommend visiting when the trees are still full and the weather is slightly warmer. read more

It's a re-think of an old alpine-style lodge, done in hipster lumberjack style with a definite leaning towards luxury - Pendleton bedspreads and robes mixed with hand-printed wallpaper and giant clawfoot tubs. Real wood-burning fireplaces and firepits proliferate in common spaces. Dj'd vinyl wafts cool music throughout. The staff is fantastic - chill, friendly, helpful and bright. Every inch inside and outside is absolutely beautiful . Authentic country design, games room included. The Dj - WOW! They even have a huge record collection!!! The rooms are even better! Out of a story book , with every I dotted, and T crossed. They even have a selection of bath products to enjoy their huge tubs facing the window to lush forest. You're matching bathrobes (Which also match your comforter) are unique to each room, and can be seen when couples walk through the garden to get to the private outdoor steam room. (One like I've never seen). Ohhh the food!!! Holy sh@&! It was out of this world! Simple ingredients like we've never tasted or imagined!!! Extra compliments to the chef. Speaking of staff, everyone who works there is friendly and zen. (Shoutout to chuck ) Last, quick mention of Stick Rick or the "twigman" as he is known. Rick adds tiny sticks to the wood designs at the lodge. A special treat if you meat him. He told me the owners name is Lion. I believe any small business takes on the personality of the owner. I wish we could give this Lodge a six-star rating! Everything was beyond what we expected the experience to be. It felt hip, with an old school, Ralph Lauren feeling to it. The GM Chuck, as well as his amazingly friendly staff, did absolutely everything to make us feel at home. And the food was great. Don't miss the chicken, or the Steelhead trout Ceasar. Or if you want, you can have them pack you something to go if you're out exploring the cool towns and trail heads that surround Big Indian. Wine list was great, as well as drinks served to you in front of the giant fireplace that was always going. We also enjoyed the outdoor sauna experience as well as the outdoor firepits. We were fortunate to spend more than a weekend there, which allowed us to dig into the experience deeper. We even changed rooms to check things out. We loved each of the rooms we stayed in, but for an extra special experience, we would highly recommend room 8 with the hot tub on the back deck. We found it was a good way to start our morning or finish off a day of hiking or fishing. Their motto is to arrive as strangers but leave as friends and that's exactly what we feel.
