I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at this veterinary office, especially during my cat Sinatra's illness and final weeks. Years ago, I initially brought Sinatra in because he was urinating outside the litter box and showing clear signs that something was wrong. The practice owner evaluated him, but kidney disease was not diagnosed at that visit. Months later, after his symptoms continued and worsened, I returned and another veterinarian performed more thorough bloodwork and acknowledged that the kidney disease had been missed previously. Fast forward to the last several weeks of his life: I contacted the office repeatedly over approximately three weeks because his condition was declining and I was trying to get him seen before things became critical. Despite this, the only appointment option ever offered was a last-minute opening with roughly one hour notice. That was it. I understand emergency hospitals and Tufts exist, but the entire reason I kept calling his regular veterinary office was because I was trying to avoid putting a chronically ill cat through the stress and expense of emergency care while his condition steadily deteriorated. Ultimately, we had to euthanize Sinatra elsewhere over the holiday weekend. Maybe the outcome would not have changed. But between the missed diagnosis earlier in his disease progression and the lack of meaningful support or effort during his decline, I cannot honestly say I felt this office provided the level of care, urgency, or communication that a sick animal and grieving owner deserved. Dr. Masucco and staff were very kind and professional. We are new to the area and received a referral to this veterinary clinic from a work colleague. I only waited three weeks for an appointment as a new client. The clinic has evening hours on Monday and Tuesday, which makes it very convenient for working pet owners. The waiting room was occupied, but not crowded. People were issued into the exam rooms in rhythm that demonstrated the office knew how to schedule for the various needs without getting too backed up. Although we arrived a little bit early, we did not have to wait a lengthy period of time for our turn. For a first visit, I was impressed with the efficiency yet gentle manner of the veterinarian. Bandit received one of his vaccinations and a microchip. He was pronounced in excellent health. I look forward to this being our go to clinic for our cat. read more

I have taken my digs to Countryside for aprox 20 yrs and they were great until they weren't. Riley had k/d, liver disease and a mass on her chest. She went in for s dental cleaning that could not be done because her blood pressure dropped to unsafe levels. I was told that her teeth could be treated with antibiotics. I called 3 times and went there twice. Never got a call back so i decided to change vets and was seen the same day. A week later Dr Masuco called but it was a week to late. My dog is towards the end of life and not what i expected from them. Some (not all) of the girls at the desk are rude and dont care about the animals just a paycheck and apparently the vets dont check messages. I really didn't want to change but they left me no choice. If your pet is close to end if life be careful. Very disappointed read more

We will never be back. Ladies at the front desk are rude and not interested in the pets. We watched customers try to make jokes with them and they seem rude and miserable. 2.5 weeks ago we asked for our 7 month old German Shepard to get x-rays for his hips because he has been hopping like a bunny and seems a little uncomfortable. When we made this appointment I confirmed we would absolutely be doing x-rays that day and we would not just be coming in for a visit. They said yes. We had to wait 2.5 weeks to get this done. We showed up and walked in- inside the first door there were nails all laid out on the windowsill, where our dog could reach and boxes. Walls were covered with stains of dirt, floors were dirty. (Seems inappropriate seeing how pets are coming in - if you care about my pet wouldn't you want to keep him safe and clean ?) we went in to see the vet and he told us if we are to do x-rays he needs to be sedated and needs to fast for the X-ray. I asked why we didn't get a call about this so we could do it today. He said he didn't see the visit until this morning - I again asked, why did we not get a call ? He had no explanation. If our German Shepard has hip dysplasia, time is super important for him - he needs to get an X-ray early since he's still growing. The vet knew this. Also, our dog shouldn't need to immediately be sedated without trying to get an x ray without first. Do you not have the man power to hold him still in the x ray? Because that's not safe. We ended up finding a vet that held him and he did not need sedation. We were disgusted. A total waste of time for us and the health of our dog. We told the vet that there were nails sitting out on the windowsill, like the front desk people, he had a flat affect and didn't care. Horrible. read more

I love them! I would definitely recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone who truly loves their pet. The doctors and staff are all really kind people. The only recommendations I have is when you unfortunately have to say goodbye to your pet there should be a special room to do it in. Not the regular office visit room, and it would be helpful to have some type of back door exit to the business. So if you have to say your final goodbyes to your pet you do not have to leave walking out through the waiting area in front of other people and their pets. And if you choose to bring your pets remains home with you to give them a proper burial, they are also brought out through the waiting area in front of other customers. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I have a perfectly healthy pug who I took to this vet to get checked out because I suspected he might have asthma. After barely running any tests, the vet I talk to suggested I put him down. I did not want to accept this answer so I got a second opinion who diagnosed him with asthma and gave me an inhaler and he is thriving. That was two years ago, and I can't imagine my life if I had gone with their opinion. Please do your research before ever taking your beloved pet to this place. read more

I have taken my dogs to Dr. Masucco since he opened his practice...we had 2 golden retrievers while living in Wrentham, after moving to the Cape i would travel back for exams....when the time came for them to pass, Dr. Masucco grieved right along side of me. Fast forward 10 years and we decided to add an English Cream golden to our family...I again made the decision to do the drive to Wrentham for his care...all I can say is, it was like coming home and was literally greeted with open arms as I was reconnecting with an old friend. My experience with Countryside was not pleasant. Dr. Massucco is very good but never on time. I tried Dr. Cygan and she insisted on giving him an injection in his rear where there is no skin and my dog yelped when she did it. She said it was common for Cytopoint. Been getting this injection in his neck where there is plenty of skin (it's an under-skin injection) for years and never had this happen. She would not do it because she said she was not trained to do this anywhere other than rear. Next time I went for his monthly injection she switched me to Dr. Sykes. Guess I did not make her happy questioning her. He made a point of telling me that I wanted the injection in his neck. After he did that I thanked him for doing it in his neck and I felt like he could not get me out of his room fast enough. Obviously, I'm leaving this place. read more

They are nice people and are good with animals however my 2 year old shepherd was never vaccinated for Leptospirosis nor did we ever get educated on it. Now my dog has been at tuffs animal hospital for three days and there is no end in sight. Additionally when my dog first became sick it took two days of calling multiple times and leaving multiple messages before I got a hold of someone. I used this place in an emergency. My dog was hit by a car and being new to the area they were the closest. I dismissed my initial concern that the exterior and interior of the building was in need of major upkeep / renovation. They took my dog right away and X-rays showed a clean leg break. The Vet was well mannered and specialized in orthopedics. I got my dog back later that day with pain and antibiotics meds and a return appointment 7 days later. The doctor followed up with a phone call several days later to check on things. On Saturday evening my dogs paw was swelling. Their message gave Tuffts as an after hours number so I brought him to Tuffts. They unwrapped and rewrapped the splint and inspected the wounds and staples and told me to keep my Tuesday appointment. Arrived on Tuesday to Countryside and had another x-ray. Doctor agreed the paw was swollen and cut away the wrap from above the paw, told me to apply some antibiotics and rub his foot 3-4 times a day. Upon returning home I noticed that I only had one more antibiotic pill left. I telephoned in to ask to speak with the vet. I was asked to explain what I needed, which was more like fighting with the person. She did not seem to understand that I only had one left, and sense the paw was inflamed and wounded I wanted to know from the doctor if I should get a refill. Went around on this several times with her and was told dr would call me back. He never did. The next morning I called again only to get a message that they were on the other line and to leave my name and number. No call back, so at 1 pm we saw a new vet at another clinic. Clean well maintained, organized and clearly better managed. Well the doctor immediately cut the splint and wrap off. It was causing the paw to swell because blood was not able to circulate and he could lose his paw. They administered pain meds, soaked his foot,massaged it, and 2-1/2 hours later they called to tell me his foot looked much much better. They ran their own X-rays as they were not able to get them from Countryside. In review I should have looked at the bad reviews and the fact their website has lapsed and I was unable to find a Facebook page and ran away then. You should too!!!!! read more

We have been bringing my Mom's cats and our other pets here for 15+ years. When I moved out of my mothers house, I was trying to find a practice closer to my apartment. We "shopped around" and other places simply just don't compare- I was actually horrified at the unethical bs I saw at other practices. We gladly make the 30min trip each way to see Dr. M & Dr. Sykes & everyone else because they truly are the absolute best. These doctors are incredibly gifted, compassionate, ethical, honest and clearly care about what they do. There is no place better for your pet to go. I recommend this place to everyone. Have taken family pets here for years. Recently my mother took her dog for heart related issues. This practice decided that the fainting episodes my mother described were seizures and put her dog on seizure medication. Unfortunately my mother took her dog elsewhere in the middle of the night last night when her dog had another episode. Her dog actually had pulmonary hypertension which was causing the fainting. Not seizures. My mother had to euthanize her dog because too much damage had been done from this untreated and undiagnosed condition. Not sure how many of the vets she saw over the past several months who missed this diagnosis or how much her dog suffered in the meantime. Or how much my mother is suffering now, wishing she had gotten a second opinion. read more

This place let us down twice before we left, which was about 7 years ago. The first incident was a botched surgery on our cat's belly, we had to turn around and take him back when we saw some of the staples coming out. The second, separate incident was an up-charge for a procedure. After plenty of wasted time speaking with staff, I spoke directly with the owner, who admitted to the error. But overcharging is a real problem. Honestly, how hard is it to bill the correct amount for a procedure? That's not a very easy thing to accidentally screw up. We were happy with our switch to Franklin Vet, until the fake plague hit and their Covid protocols became absurd. We gave Countryside another chance because they're closer and because their Covid policies were less ridiculous. We were happy with our cat's first visit last year for his annual and a haircut, so we booked our second appointment recently for the same. We had to book almost 3 weeks out for this, but we were told he wouldn't need sedation (he didn't the year before and never prior) and that he'd be done in "a couple of hours." The appointment was made for 0830. I brought him in this morning and I was told they'd need to keep him all day - 8+ hours for a haircut and a checkup. I was also told the bill would be almost double what we paid last year, because they'd need to sedate him. This mellow little cat has never needed sedation, and these exams take about 10 minutes. I really need to leave him here to get barked at for the next 8 hours, just so they can charge me to inject him with unnecessary anesthesia, all because he needs a haircut? I walked out. This business needs to get organized, to stop up-charging, and to stop trying to charge for unnecessary procedures. read more

I am a cat owner and was told about CVC by a friend of mine who has been bringing her cats here for a long time. They have always accommodated me, even in times of emergency. Never price gouged me and are always compassionate and never cold towards me. One thing I would like to see more of is follow up phone calls. I was told I would be contacted about a follow up a few times and ended up having to call myself because I didn't hear from them for a few weeks. All around great place to bring your cat! read more

We took our 5 lb around 11 week new puppy to Countryside Veterinary Clinic in the morning less than a month ago. I needed to wait till our care was done (test results, not clinical) and to do some cooling off,research and seeing how the practice would react in the aftermath...... The story: The Veterinarian at this practice allowed our puppy to fall off the exam table on to a hard floor during an exam where the lights were off (we are not sure if he hit the hard table on the way down). The Vet did not immediately check out the puppy, or go near the puppy, but exited the room with haste to get help . The Vet didn't comment on what happened upon his return-as if nothing had happened. My teenage daughter demanded an apology and received one-the last we have ever heard from this doctor on the incident. I left a message with the staff at the front desk as to what happened and to have the owner of the practice help. I wanted reassurance from someone else that our puppy would be ok, and advice what to look for during the next x number of hours after a fall where he might have hit his head.... I was only allowed to leave a message but told he would call me really soon. We tried to call another vet we had used in the past to help us but didn't have any luck-everyone was slammed. Our puppy looked and acted ok had been examined after the fall, so we didn't take him to crisis care. I waited by the phone for around 8 hours till the late evening when I got a call from the owner of the practice He said he waited till now to contact me because he wanted to "talk to everyone involved before calling me". Very oddly, to closely paraphrase him, in his researching the event with the doc, who let the dog fall, he "didn't feel the need to drill down on the matter" (i.e. to better understand what happened in the exam room). He just said he could reassure me the doctor responsible felt very bad and that he knew him for a few years as a good doctor-and that if anything like this had ever happened before he "would certainly know about it". He was somewhat apologetic about what happened but it seemed clear to me he was not going to look too hard into this situation in terms of seeing if his practice needed any tightening up as to, for example, procedures on preventing this kind of event. He also mentioned x amount of operating under the stress of COVID-which I would totally get if it was in addition to "drilling down' on what completely happened,not, perhaps, as a rationalization for doing less. I am certainly appreciative that the owner gave me all the time I wanted to vent. He also answered fully any questions I had on how to watch the puppy for a bit longer to make sure he continued to be ok and the resilience of puppy to trauma. He gave me his direct line to be there medically if needed, offered a follow up visit the next day if needed , and he called us in the am the next day to make sure all was good. This all was very supportive and helped me sleep easier after a very stressful day with our whole family quite hurt by the experience made significantly worst by how it was handled afterwards. I'm a doc in the health care field too; mistakes happen-we are all human. I struggled a lot on how to put closure on all of this.....how much to speak up for what is right and also help prevent this event and all that surrounded it from happening again. I tried to make myself feel better by contacting the licensing board for Veterinarians in MA to reassure myself that the doc who allowed the drop was basically a good doc-that this was a one time thing. Unfortunately, from emails from the Licensing Board it appears that the doctor in the exam room with us has a very blemished past including losing his license for a period of time. I then got a copy of the notes from the day of our visit written by the doctor who cared for our pup....and they are woefully inaccurate (i'm being kind here). On that one phone call, the evening of the incident, I had with the owner, he read me the medical note written by the doctor who cared for our pup. I told him then of the blatant inaccuracies in the record from what really happened. Though one thing in the medical note had been changed to reflect the truth, the note was still significantly flawed. In one part it almost suggests that my daughter, who was in the room at the time, was somewhat responsible for the dog falling off the table (no one in our family unfortunately was ever asked during our pups exam to help monitor the pup-that would have been a great idea!). Another part of the note said, after the puppy fell, he rushed over to its' aide to make sure all was ok (a blatant lie). I thus thought, I had no choice, I had to at least make people aware of my experiences, and that minimally it would seem that this practice has some serious issues from management protocols and supervision down to the caring practices/record keeping going on in exam rooms. Maximally, I hope nothing more is happening. read more

I have been going to this veterinary clinic ever since my brother told me about Dr. M over a decade ago. He had brought his Chesapeake Bay Retriever here and was extremely happy. Over the years I have brought several cats and my last longcoat German Shepherd (as well as my newest one). Always top notch care and they take the time to go over any issues or medications needed. It is a 35 minute drive for me but I keep coming back because of the excellent treatment me and my pets get as well as the reasonable prices. I cannot recommend Countryside Vet Clinic enough. Our dog has been cared for by Countryside for 8 years now. They have been wonderful with us that entire time. We just recently had a scare with an illness, and took our dog to a major emergency veterinary center because it was after hours for Countryside and our dog's condition seemed urgent. The doctor/student team did not provide much more than a recommendation to run test after test after test and provide an estimate to work on another issue that we didn't even think was part of the visit that was in the thousands of dollars--with no guarantee that any of this would give us anything more than big bills and still possibly no dog or a decision to put him to sleep after all that--or before because we couldn't possibly pay that much. We followed up with Countryside, kind of resigned that we were going in for a little appointment that would do nothing more than confirm our unknowns, and the cost of the other issue that we learned was actually likely more related to his issue than anything else, and to have him put to sleep. Just an $80 x-ray later, and an estimate of about $250 of care to resolve ALL of the issues, more than a 1/4 the cost of the estimate at the big vet hospital, and we will have our dog healthy in under a week, with every indication of at least four more happy years of healthy, pain-free life. Dr. Massucco is an amazing human being, so kind, so caring, and down-to-earth. He "gets it" with aging dogs. Our dog has had lyme twice and we've been concerned about arthritis, etc. Countryside has really been amazing in treating that, helping him after he was attacked by another dog, and with general every year veterinary care overall. Their prices have been fair and they are flexible with having you come back to budget out care. You might pay a bit more in the long run with another visit fee, yet being able to actually budget things out has proved so helpful to us, and they package things to make sense, too, like heartworm, etc. They never push unneeded care or tests either. We cannot thank Countryside enough for the care all these years, and especially in this instance. We just had to come in here and write. read more

My boyfriend and I took in a stray cat and took it to Countryside because it was close and they were willing to take us the same day. We met with Dr. M, and I was extremely happy with his care, attitude towards me as a new kitty parent and how he handed the cat - very gentle. Our cat suddenly (about 4 days later) developed bizarre symptoms - being very distant, not very talkative (didn't stop meowing since we found him) and he was acting almost drunk. We brought him into Tufts and had a follow up the next morning. They were extremely honest and transparent about his treatment - saying they would need to almost guess and check to se what it was since he was showing neurologic symptoms. Fortunately, it panned out and my kitty is now well! I rated 4 stars because you can feel like you get a bit lost but being re-directed to different vets within the same practice. They do make every effort to give you what you need when you request it, but the request can't always be fulfilled, especially when needing last minute care. Overall, I would definitely recommend this vet to a friend. read more

Countryside used to be my family's go to veterinary clinic. I would give DR M no such stars for what he did to me and my dog- putting him to sleep without a sedative first. My dog was standing and then suddenly flipped over and died. I have never heard of anyone not giving a sedative first unless the poor animal was already half across the bridge. I'll never be able to get that terrible memory out of my head. As for the other doctors, they are the only reason I am giving this place 2 stars. Dr C was always kind and knowledgeable- and my leaving had nothing to do with her. Dr M and his manic wife are the reasons I stopped going. Oh, and the turnover is terrible of course. No one stays long- Dr M screams at everyone and treats them like garbage. Why would anyone stay? read more

We take our cat to Dr. Massucco. He's fantastic. The office is always always always super clean. He is wonderful with your pet. He treats the pet and the pet parent with respect and dignity. He's patient and never rough with your animal. They may be a bit pricier than other vets, but to have my pet handled the way I'd want to be handled myself, it's worth an extra ten to fifteen dollars any day. I've paid less and had a dirty office and a rough vet. No thanks. What was that dirt? Rough with my pet? Don't make me want to hurt you. That's my baby. I go there with my pet and my mom's pet. I've sent friends there. If you love your pet, you'll go there. He's sent vets packing that don't measure up to his standards of handling animals. His boarding facility is aces, too. read more

I can't say enough about this veterinary clinic. I am as particular about my dogs vet as I am about my own Dr. Maybe more. Dr. Massucco was recommended to me several years ago, and he and his caring staff have cared for my dogs ever since. He has gotten us through some hard times as our dogs aged and eventually passed, and he was always so patient and understanding with our concerns, and gentle with our pets. Very kind and knowledgeable person. And his staff are all so nice. They have all the latest equipment and I think their prices are very fair. We are now starting to look for a new best friend, and can hardly wait to introduce him/her to Dr. Massucco. I know that with him our pet is in the best of hands. I have ALWAYS received the best care for my pets and the entire staff is always so sincerely nice, knowledgeable, and so helpful with every aspect of my pet's care.We have a very difficult cat (to say the least) and they all deal with her very well!!!
