It's the usual scanning process as everywhere. Everyone was super nice and it went smoothly. They had people there showing us where to go (this was in the new courthouse) so it wasn't hard to find at all. The bathrooms were easily accessible and there was even a small cafe if you needed, I got called in the first jury pool for voir dire at the old courthouse and it had hard benches and just vending machines. You had to go through security there too of course. Lots of signs and people helping us find our places so that was helpful. I didn't get picked which I was a little sad about as the case sounded interesting. You get a prepaid card when you turn in your jury summons and they will let you know when your $20 is on there. They said 2 weeks to a month I think. All in all not a bad experience as long as I'm in the jury box and not facing one!

Fayette County Courthouse was on the list. Located in downtown La Grange, the courthouse is surrounded by a nice square with lots of businesses, restaurants, and more close by. Like a lot of small towns, the county courthouse is one of the most picturesque parts of town. This one is no different. While the courthouse was closed and I couldn't go inside, it was still nice to check out from the outside from all angles and read a little bit about the history of the landmark.

Dedicated in 1966, this is clearly a "government" building from the look and feel, a "Moderne" style. It is a six-story concrete and glass structure. The first story has a wide brown colored band of concrete supported by concrete pillars. The upper stories include a concrete lattice over the recessed windows. The roof line is flat. The County Clerks office for getting a new Passport or a renewal is in the New Courthouse Building on the 2nd floor in Ste.203. The new courthouse is to the left of the old County courthouse and not near as tall. Try to leave as much metal as you can at home as you do have to go through a metal detector on entering. After that you can go up the stairs to your left or to your right are the elevators. Everything went pretty quick and the clerks were very helpful. If you're getting your passport renewed be sure and take your old one with you so they can get your passport number off of your old one.

I had to come back because I forgot my my registration. I came back about 30 minutes later and got someone else who was just as helpful. Both ladies were friendly and full of information. The line isn't that long and the wait time was short.

This courthouse is in the center of town, taking up the main block, which makes a great little town…read moresquare for the city of Bay City. The courthouse was built in the 1960's, and has a design that doesn't really fit in with any of the other architecture of the area. It's got an underground parking garage, and concrete shades to keep the sun out of the courtrooms inside. The overhanging second floor is interesting, where you can walk under it, and stay in the shade. At the far end of the Main Square is a large Confederate memorial. It reads, "Lest we forget" and features the Confederate flag carved in stone, two stone cannon barrels, and a obelisk with a rebel soldier in uniform. The whole set up seems like an anachronism, with the old monument in front of the modern design of the courthouse. There's plenty of parking if you're not allowed in the underground parking area. Just park along the square. The paved areas have seats if you are looking for a place to hang out and get out of the sun. It's picturesque here, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

Thankfully, that's not what I was here for and there was no line for the County Clerk's office for renewal of Assumed Names/business names/marriage licenses. I had some hiccups with their signature machine that added an extra ~15 minutes because they had to restart with another clerk/computer, but otherwise the process went smoothly. I was out by 8:30 and I'm sure I could've been in and out in 15 minutes. They do not take tap or Apple Pay so keep that in mind. Also, cards must be in your name or have someone there whose name matches the card.

Today was the start of the Labor Day Dwi task force initiative. There were lots of different…read moreagencies present for the kickoff, they served hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings. After roll initiatives and prayers for safe returns dinner was served. Later our men and women of color headed out for a long night of protecting and serving. Alan Rosen stopped by to give his words of encouragement for a prosperous night. This was my first opportunity to do a ride along and I was overcome with excitement to also serve our community. I rode with officer Brandi and it was a very eventful night. We had 7 traffic stops and 1 non life threatening crash with 1 arrest. Awesome night!!!!
