I came in at opening, 8AM on the dot, and the line for the tax office already quite long (25+ people). Thankfully, that's not what I was here for and there was no line for the County Clerk's office for renewal of Assumed Names/business names/marriage licenses. I had some hiccups with their signature machine that added an extra ~15 minutes because they had to restart with another clerk/computer, but otherwise the process went smoothly. I was out by 8:30 and I'm sure I could've been in and out in 15 minutes. They do not take tap or Apple Pay so keep that in mind. Today was the start of the Labor Day Dwi task force initiative. There were lots of different agencies present for the kickoff, they served hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings. After roll initiatives and prayers for safe returns dinner was served. Later our men and women of color headed out for a long night of protecting and serving. Alan Rosen stopped by to give his words of encouragement for a prosperous night. This was my first opportunity to do a ride along and I was overcome with excitement to also serve our community. I rode with officer Brandi and it was a very eventful night. We had 7 traffic stops and 1 non life threatening crash with 1 arrest. Awesome night!!!! read more

Don't go here if you have other options. Today I didn't. When given the opportunity to make things run even slightly smoother they figured out a way to make it less so while spending more tax money. Someone paid a lot of money to buy or lease these diy kiosks in order to streamline things, two of them! But instead of using them as intended and freeing up two staff members to help people at the desks they put them behind the info desk and require you to wait in line to tell someone what you need and they use only one of the kiosks to punch it in for you. It's like they intentionally make things as complex and inefficient as possible. This is why you don't want people who hate government in charge of government. They create inefficiencies and then blame it on government and use it as an excuse to shut down the system instead of working to improve it. Look to the USPS for further example. read more

Here is a one stop shop for you. You can get your marriage license here while paying for your speeding ticket and changing your car plates and registration here. Be prepared for the most boring and awkward wait that you will have experienced in your life here unless you win the mini lottery and happen to step in here when the line is only a dozen people long. A good result of this is because there are 12 windows to take care of your vehicle business but usually only 4 or 5 windows will be open even if the line is wrapped out of the door. A quick tip while you are reading this and are in line fixing to enter the door to the cashiers, DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINKS IN THERE, yes you, there are signs around and even if you bring kids a sheriff will not kindly remind you no food or drinks inside. Ignorance is no excuse here. You are allowed up to three transactions per visit but I do not think that means you can't go to the back of the line to do three more if you are a "runner" for a car dealer. There is an ATM here, it is located when you come in from the parking lot immediately to the right as you walk in. To take care of a bond or court ticket you will walk across the lobby and veer a little to the right where you will see another small glass entrance type room with three windows. Getting a marriage license or want to get married by the J P? When you walk in from the back entrance (parking lot) walk across the lobby almost to the end and start towards the left, follow the signs and you will see another room for this. I believe you have to wait 72 hours after getting your license to get married here. Parking, there is ample parking but it is situated where most of the parking up towards the front of the lot is full of Harris County personnel and constables so you most likely will be finding a parking place towards the back about 1000 yards away. Breakage into cars is very low here I wonder why. Loose kids will be captured and sold to the circus. Keep an eye on your banshee yelling kids, the hard cement floor and tall ceilings amplify sound in here ten fold. It's hard enough trying to hear the clerks sigh and grunt out "next". If you wonder where does that road back in the parking lot lead, if you turn to the left if will take you to Little York in which you can turn right to get on the freeway ( I-45 North) or you can turn to the right in which I believe it'll take you to Yale (not university). Everybody seems to hate their job here so leave your sensitive hat at home because there are plenty of a$$hat's behind the counter. Everybody has been instructed to not crack a smile and look at you crazy when you ask a question. Oh, and anything that they do for you here is a favor, bonuses are given to the one who can take in the least amount of "customers" if you will by the end of the day. Hiring and opening up more bay windows is against the policy since it might cause an influx of revenue for the county and would *gasp* make the line go faster. If you should ever hear the word "Please" or "thank you here" it is either a fluke or you've only heard it from somebody that is not employed here. If you want a total opposite experience then go to the T.W.I.C office off of Basin Road by Pasadena/610. Your state tax dollars working the best for you my friends, don't expect to have your money taken and a pat on the back, remember, they are doing you a huge favor, take it or leave it, oh I forgot, they know you need them. read more

I cannot believe I came here trying to get a copy of a birth certificate, It's funny how I work for the county and come here but nope the service is extremely slow, rude clerks, no cell phone reception, and no help. After reading all the signs to direct me to the correct place, I waited an hour only to not have the line move and just left.The next day I went to the one nearest to my home in Cypresswood and believe me the service was faster and consistent. read more

Very positive jury duty experience! Judge Carter was great - he was respectful of our time, and educated us about the process. He was also respectful to the defendants and everyone else in the courtroom. I arrived a few minutes before 10 AM, and we were dismissed around 11:15 because all the day's 189 cases were resolved without needing a jury trial. Contrary to some of the other reviews, which are probably about the tax office and other services in the building, the courtroom and the entire staff in it were efficient. Here are a few JUROR TIPS from my experience, in case you found this while getting ready for jury duty: 1. Bring a book! You can't use your phone in the courtroom (I don't know about e-readers, so a physical book is safest). I was surprised how many people just sat there for over an hour just looking around. 2. Wear comfortable clothes, but look presentable. Business casual is perfect. Bring a light sweater if you're someone who gets cold. 3. Realize what a privilege it is to live in a country that provides for a jury trial, and to serve as a juror. I really mean that. Most countries don't offer jury trials, and of those that do, many allow it only for the most serious of crimes. Aside from voting and military service (if you choose to do that), being on a jury is one of the few ways our U.S. Constitution compels us to serve each other. It is your job to be a juror when it's your turn, and you may be called upon to make important decisions impacting one of your fellow citizens. It may not be convenient, but this is a few hours of JP court at most; it's not like you're going to be sequestered for weeks on a murder trial - not at this court anyway. 4. Try to enjoy your time in court, learn something, and maybe catch up on some of your reading. read more

If you've been called to jury duty in precinct 1, don't fret. You, unlike most other saps going to other courthouses or other precincts, don't have to show up until 10 AM. Not a typo. It's not a trick to get you to show up and get arrested for running accidentally running that red light that went through three rotations without ever changing, thereby causing a traffic jam at 7 AM at the corner of Shepherd and Ella. It's because the justice of the peace doesn't need you until around 11 AM. That's when (well in this case) he will know if he needs you for any people who want to take their case to a trial of their peers. So, between 10 AM and 11 AM, you'll be sitting in a room with other potential jurors. You can bring your phone, but it won't get any worthwhile reception. Bring a book, it's better for your mind. It's the busiest precinct in Texas, so there's quite a bit of activity. People were called up to the bench, sat in the juror's box, walked into and then out of one room. Others walked into another room, then back out. Jurors took potty breaks - gross bathroom, you may want to bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Not dive bar dirty, just a little institutional dirty. Mostly that hour drags on forever with people walking around, providing entertainment for the potential jury pool. We watched two wedding ceremonies along with picture-taking sessions at the back of the room. Around 10:45, I got a good feeling. Then a slow 15 minutes later, the judge confirmed it. Not a one of the 129 cases needed a jury. We ALL drew the lucky card that day. They all settled, except for two that just needed a judge and a couple of weddings. We were given the option of donating our $6 "salary" to our choice of a list of six very worthy organizations. Only half of the people donated. WTF. It's not like we had to pay for parking (hide anything of any value - it looked pretty sketchy in the lot). $6 may not seem like a lot, but $6 times around 30 people comes to $180. Any bit goes a long way to a non-profit, collectively it goes a bit farther. read more

I can't speak for all Harris County Courthouses but my experience at this location was my best courthouse experience. Not that I spend a lot of time at courthouses. We arrived mid-day to get our marriage license (whoop whoop). We arrived at the office door and had about a 5 minute wait. We were called in and assisted by Mistah Jones who was very quick and efficient in processing all of our paperwork. From the looks of all of the awards and commendations hanging around his office he has been there for a long time and has perfected his process. All in all we were in and out of the courthouse in about 30 minutes. I call that a successful trip. read more

First of all parking sucks . Been here twice . First to get married on a Saturday everything was great .. i guess cause there's no people .. judge was Awsome girls that help were nice and helpful. Now to renew registration ... whole different staff , rude , unprofessional, not helpful at all. I hated coming to this place, the employees are very rude they hate their jobs. I waited the first time around 40 minutes to make it to the top of the line and I was greeted by a rude woman that cut off every word that came out of my mouth. There was nobody in there to help with telling us if we were in the right line or not. So I left in tears that's how bad the woman was to me. So the next day I came back got in the line the lady told me to get into, and finally a nice girl got everything that I was supposed to get done, done. Called for Jury Duty. I have been called to this location 3 or 4 times now over the past ten years. It is always the same judge. You don't have to be there until 10am. I think he mainly gets traffic issues and eviction issues. And somehow he manages to get them all settled without needing a jury. So we always get dismissed around 11am or so. But not before he has us all witness a marriage ceremony or two. today, we even had to watch him handle a few evictions. He is a very fair and kind hearted judge and speaks very respectfully to everyone. If the people did not bring the right proof, he gives them another chance to come back the next day. He would never make it as Judge Judy!!! I think this whole precinct is probably very well run. Plus the parking is FREE!!!!! It is refreshing ot see your tax dollars being well managed every now and then. read more

Best jury experience I ever had! The staff is professional and efficient; the judge is very personable and polite. We watched many eviction proceedings and two weddings - the weddings were very pleasant and there were even photos for the happy couple. And each of the day's cases that was a candidate for jury trial was settled. I was never so happy not to be needed. We were ushered into the courtroom promptly at ten and were dismissed by eleven! It was great to be able to donate our six dollar juror pay to a worthy charity. Best of all, Judge Dale Gorczynski thanked each of us personally for our service. read more

I've been here and to other government agencies, and I didn't really see any problems. I had to come here to get my marriage license which took under thirty minutes. I also came here to get my registration sticker for my car. That, too, took only thirty minutes. My only complaint was that when we got our marriage license there was no problem paying with a card, but when I got my registration, I had to use cash or check. Make sure you bring cash, and just expect to wait. It's a government agency. It happens. read more

By far the most amazing, polite, clean, and organized courthouse I have been to in Houston! I seriously rave about this place all the time. There are organized lines with clear instruction on where to go, or you can walk up to any window and they will help direct you. I have been twice in the last month and both times the process has been seamless. I even got married at this courthouse, and the judge and other employees were so sweet. The judge even had someone come in and offer to take pictures with my phone. How cool is that?! I initially came here because the two other locations closest to me (Spring Cypress and Clay) were closed due to Hurricane Harvey damage. Be careful. My truck got broken into today while I was in the long, long, long line to transfer a title on a vehicle. I think these low lifes are casing the place, sitting in their cars, picking their targets when folks leave their cars to go inside. They know your butt won't be back for a loooong time, easy pickings. Obviously the 50 or so law enforcement cars in the parking lot did little to deter these punks. I had the cop on duty write up a report and will get a useless case number. They rifled through the console/glove box but I leave no valuables in the car, but now I have the hassle of getting the widow replaced and out of pocket costs (not covered, and lower than my deductible). Steer clear if you can. I'd say, have someone stay in the car but that is probably not any safer (for them!). This place is full on ROGUISH. To boot, I am idiot enough to actually put down the proper sales price of the vehicle I bought. read more

It was a Tuesday at 8:30 and I went to renew my licence plates. I was there for about 40 minutes so had plenty of time to notice my surroundings and the level of support provided. The reception personnel where very helpful and constantly checked on the clients to ensure everyone was on the right line and had the forms they needed. My complete deception came from the tellers serving the clients who where there to renew inspection stickers, licence plates, change title, etc. The majority of them lacked proper customer service. I saw one who just walked out of her booth and let the client there waiting for 20 minutes without prior notice. This customer had to constantly ask other tellers if his teller was coming back. Another teller was servicing a Spanish speaking client and was reluctant to look for a translator for her and got very upset when another customer offered to help translate. I literally saw half of the tellers follow a pattern of doing 1 transaction, getting up to talk to other tellers and then 5 minutes later tend to the next client, no wonder it takes for ever to get anything done! If at 8:30 am the tellers looked fed up with no motivation to help out, I can't imagine how they treat customers at 2,3 or 4 pm in the afternoon. read more
