We were looking for a memorable way to celebrate my son's 11th birthday. A phone call to Michael and he was planning a visit that would last for years. We arrived to Courtland on a Sunday morning at 10 am. My sister (and her family), my parents, and my family were greeted by Michael and Cindy. They ensured we were properly prepared for our adventure. Anything lacking, Michael had extras. As we walked down the from the outdoor gazebo, my sister found a dime from 1900; her find was promptly photographed. We learned that the dime and her name would be added to the Courtland museum. We made our way into downtown Courtland, the adults were treated to a history lesson while the three children went with Cindy on a scavenger hunt. Cindy had many surprises for the kids as they built up their rock collections. While on our walk we saw evidence of ancient Hohokam presence in Courtland. The tour ended with a visit into an old mine. We then set up lunch in the gazebo and enjoyed time with the family. As our day wrapped up, Michael had one more surprise. The Gleeson jail was open this weekend, we had one more stop. On our way to the jail, we detoured and Michael showed us where the Courtland cemetery was. Our adventure into Courtland was amazing. My entire family was impressed with the history and activities. Thank you Michael and Cindy for taking such great care of us all. read more

Old Pueblo Lapidary Club went on a field trip to Courtland Ghost Town. We had so much fun and found so many great specimens and some that are great for cabbing. Mike and his team were great and very attentive to all of us making sure we were in the right place to find the rocks/minerals we want and helped carry out our findings. Set up a cleaning area for our rocks. Has indoor plumbing which is very clean and a very nice ramada to eat your lunch and take a break from the sun. Cannot wait to go back and rock hound some more. We did the tour and tailing collecting $40 got our money worth. They also have turquoise tour/collecting monthly. Worth the money to go and collect. Thanks Mike for a wonderful day. read more

We went out for a group trip to celebrate a friends bachelor party, and this place was more than we could have ever expected. We wanted something unique, quite, but fairly comfortable and this place was perfect. So much to explore, and do, but so relaxing too! read more

We had a great adventure with our guide, Cindy! She informed us of many of the rocks and minerals in the area as well as the local history of this dried up little town. She took us to 3 different sites in search of turquoise, azurite, and malachite. We were very pleased with our haul! The visitors center was inviting and the restrooms were clean. Recommended for a rock hounding adventure! read more

Courtland Ghost Town is a must! We went to visit in April and had an amazing experience. Our tour guide, Mike, is very knowledgeable and can tell you all about the history of Courtland. He was an amazing host and even arranged a variety of activities for us. Both the mine and cemetery tours were incredible. If you're looking for a little adventure, I would definitely recommend Courtland Ghost Town. It exceeded our expectations. read more

I had never been to a ghost town before. I half expected to be told cheesy ghost stories around a camp fire by a guy holding a flashlight under chin. This was not that. I went with a bunch of friends and had a fantastic time. Michael is a gracious host who knows everything there is to know about the town's origins. He hiked with us up the highest hills and down the deepest mines while explaining everything in sight. If you're the adventurous type, I highly recommend the tour. read more

This tour was awesome! The entire place has so many interesting aspects, and the owner Michael was such a great guide! It was so cool to be able to go right inside the mine and take a look around, and it is so open once you are inside! We then went to the Native American campsites, and it was like going back in time as you can still see the holes where they would grind up the acorns. The whole property is so fascinating - where you can see the mines, all of the different kinds of rocks, and how they cleaned them up in the acid wash. The cemetery was such a beautiful spot, so rich in history. I can't recommend this tour enough! read more

Hidden Gem! Great company and people made our first time rockhounding tour fun and interesting! There is so much history in Courtland and our tour guide, Cindy, was super knowledgeable and friendly. They provided a collecting bag and hiking poles for our adventure and the visitors center has real bathrooms that are clean. I can't wait to go back! read more

Had such a phenomenal time exploring this Ghost Town! The views, tranquility, personalized tour, mine exploration, hiking, gemstone searching--it was all such a blast! The accommodations are also incredibly comfortable, staying in a private RV with plenty of showers and toilets to host large groups. And with Mike as a fantastic host, you couldn't ask more from a trip to the desert exploring southwest history! read more

This is an amazing area. Its full of history and adventure. If you drive from Gleeson, its absolutely gorgeous. We got there from Tombstone. Not far at all. There is a 15 mile dirt road called ghost town trl. Thats where you want to go!. We stopped on the dirt road probably 30 times before actually heading into the park. We are of family of 5 with 2 small children. They got their own walking sticks, hard hats, and flashlights and they had a blast. We spent about 3 hours and did not get to see everything. I recommend making a whole day of it. We got to rock hunt, explore, see the mine, the ruins...etc. It was awesome. The owner, Michael, is super friendly, knowledgable, and the hospitality he showed us blew us out of the water. There is brand new beautiful clean bathrooms, shower, and kitchen area. Overnight staying is offered also. I highly recommend going especially if you like to rock hunt, explore and hike. We are so happy we did. read more

Wonderful visit to Courtland ghost town! Wow--make sure you bring your camera and wear good walking shoes when you take this tour of Courtland! You don't do a whole lot of walking, but there is some involved, and you are out in the desert. Courtland is a little known copper mining town...now a ghost town, and our guide, Mike Oster has really done his research! The area is deep in history, and Mike not only took us into one of his mines, but showed us an area used by First People where they used rocks to grind their grains into flour. He also showed us the remains of old buildings and told of their history, and the people who lived here in the early 1900s. The Courtland Cemetery has recently been restored, and is absolutely beautiful. This tour is well worth the time. The area is very scenic and photogenic. You won't be sorry! read more

Outstanding - been on the tour twice! Such a rich history - prehistoric and 19th century Native Americans, turn of the century mining town, and so much geology. Loved going through the mine (although one of the shafts off of the main tunnel gave me the heebie-jeebies - thanks for the sturdy hand rails, Mike!). It really was fascinating, and what a nice walk through the area.. A little steep in a couple of places, but walking sticks were provided. One heads up - even at 5,000 feet, it gets pretty darned hot there in the summer. If you go in the summer months, take lots of water and protective clothing. Also, allow yourself some time to walk around the ghost town after the tour. Only one building left standing (the jail, of course), but a very neat area. The tour was very interesting and good fun - highly recommend it. read more

This place is incredible- the scenery is beautiful, and there's gorgeous rocks, and plenty of photographically haunting vestiges of a once thriving boom. My 9 year old son absolutely loved the whole afternoon, and called it "the BEST tour Ever!" Our guide Cindy was a lot of fun, and filled with fascinating stories and information. The restored cemetery was really interesting, many thanks to all concerned and caring citizens helping to save it. The owner, Mike, fell in love with the area and after discovering it had narrowly missed becoming an open-pit mine twice since 2008, he has devoted his life to preserving and protecting this rich area for generations to come. Priceless afternoon, we will be back with family and hopefully my son's 4th grade class! read more

While in Tuscon visiting family I came across Courtland Ghost Town & Turquoise Gallery. I decided to make the trip to check out their tour and learn more about turquoise in the area and I'm SO glad that I did. The staff were incredible. They were extremely knowledgable and kind. I learned all about the history of the town, the mines, and was able to see the turquoise up close. Upon learning that I was interested in rocks, the staff were excited to share recommendations of spots to check out. They went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience. I had an amazing visit and I encourage you to make the trip - it will be worth it! Thank you Courtland staff for making my trip so special. read more

Before I visited Courtland Ghost Town, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Even though I love the outdoors, I was nervous about relying on solar power for several days. But Michael, our host and tour guide, could not have been more accommodating. He made sure we were hydrated, well fed, and gave us an amazing tour of old turquoise mines and the lands of Arizona. Plus, his dog, Molly, is the best! If you're looking for a quiet escape from a busy, noisy l, stress-filled life, I can't think of a better place to connect with Mother Earth, stare at the starry night sky, and learn about the history of the area. A must-do! read more

Exploring Ghost Town Trail we saw a sign for turquoise hunting tours. We arranged a tour with Morgan. It was incredible. My wife is into geology and I'm interested in history. We had a great experience. Morgan was extremely friendly and knowledgeable in both the local history, minerals and turquoise mining. She told us about the ecosystem and animals in the area. She went of her way to make sure we had fun finding turquoise. We strongly recommend this tour and we will be doing it again. read more

I had a complete blast visiting Courtland on a recent trip to AZ. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect - maybe a couple of old buildings, wild west stories, etc. But this place is so much cooler than that - so much history, both mining and Native American. Some of the coolest rocks I've seen, literally just all around you. There really is something for everyone here - science buffs, history geeks, nature lovers. Don't miss it! I can't wait to go back. read more

If you like the great outdoors and adventure, this is the place for you! The tour includes a number of different activities all across the ghost town and even down into an old mine. The guide, Michael, is very knowledgeable about the area and seems to know the answer to just about any questions we had. The tour is also easily accessible to people of any age. I highly recommend going! Also, 5 stars for his dog and Courtlands mascot, Molly! read more
