Courtyard by Marriott located in Blacksburg Virginia just a few miles away from Virginia tech campus and stadium. My buddy and I was on a road trip through the Carolinas and Virginia to check out roadside attractions and the ACC stadiums and campuses. We decided to lay over in Blacksburg after checking out Virginia Tech. Traditional Marriott with the complimentary breakfast, pool, 24/7 fitness center and spacious and comfy rooms. Our service on our visit to this location was very good and met the Marriott standards which is the reason I'm a longtime member and frequent stayer of there locations. Overall a really good visit and a perfect place for a quick layover on our small Road trip. read more

The Courtyard Marriott in Blacksburg has some good qualities, but also a few areas that could use improvement. We stayed here for Virginia Tech move in. The area felt safe. The proximity to VT was perfect. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which set a positive tone, and the renovated lobby is clean, modern, and a comfortable place to relax. The food and coffee is not free, but it was great to have an option available for a quick bite. That said, the room itself wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. The mattress wasn't very supportive, and the air conditioner was loud enough to interrupt sleep. The TV is mounted on a swivel, but its placement next to the armoire makes it awkward to watch from the bed. The bathroom also needs attention--the floor grout looked dirty, and the shower made a loud noise when turned on to hot water, which was a little unsettling. Overall, the hotel has potential and the service is great, but some room updates and maintenance would make the stay much more enjoyable. read more

We stayed at a bunch of hotels on a roadtrip and this Courtyard in Blacksburg was the best of all of them. The room itself was extremely comfortable and clean, with a nice home feel. We found the service to be odd and not especially friendly, but we found that to be strangely true everywhere in southern Virginia. Regardless, I highly recommend this hotel if you're visiting Virginia Tech or just driving through. read more

Nice hotel and staff. Noticed a musty mildewy odor as soon as you walk in. Rooms smelled fresh no mildew. Initially we got a room that had the bed facing in one direction and the TV was off to the side. It did have a swivel stand but even then it wasn't good and there was a piece of furniture blocking part of it still. We complained and were assigned a new room which was better. I got the impression most of the rooms have this swivel TV. There is no free coffee or breakfast like most hotels in this class have but they do have a bistro that you can buy breakfast or dinner at. I got a bagel and a Starbucks coffee. Neither were particularly good. There are NO PETS ALLOWED. The reason for the caps here is that there are many many signs that NO PETS are ALLOWED. There's a hefty fee if they find you sneaked in a pet. Something like $250. So they really really don't want pets there. I would stay there again if I needed to be in the area. Since they are going through a major lobby renovation it is not a great time to review. However, I will be fair. Just last week the property began a renovation to a bistro concept lobby. These are really great and will be a huge bonus to the hotel when complete in late Spring. The entrance has been moved to the side of the building until construction is complete. No other amenities are affected with this, only lobby. The property around the exterior excellent. Other than a small trash can by the door that was full and appears to had got knocked over. The sand used for putting on cigarettes was on the concrete. Check-in was flawless and info given out on breakfast at 6 AM in the conference room with construction. The room was in great shape and looked like it had a recent renovation. It seemed to be and over sized double, there was lots of room. Enough for a full size chair. Also nice deep drawers and a wide closet. The breakfast ended up being problematic. The staff was never ready at 6 AM and left me waiting each morning, one time until almost 6:20 AM. With a deadline needed to get out 20 min was huge. Most food was above to average.The eggs on my last day were ice cold. Waffle batter was not filled up all the way from the beginning and had to tip, same with syrup that started out low. The woman who assisted each day did not seem to want to be there. Another issue came up too, this was around key cards. Mine was deactivated twice. I was told this happens all of the time like it was something typical. Well I can tell you it's not typical and was a pain. Once they have construction completed only things smooth out. But at this point a solid three is appropriate and I would come back. read more

The girl that checked us in was friendly and efficient. Room was updated and clean. Had dinner and drinks at the restaurant/bar in hotel. Renee was the only staff member working and she is phenomenal!!! From taking orders, bartending, cooking your food, and serving she is a one woman show! This woman deserves a raise!!! She was so busy but always attentive and has a smile on her face!!! Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and kudos to them for having great employees!!! read more

I stayed at this hotel a few months ago and I just thought it was so so... It appears that it's had a much needed facelift! Really enjoying the new carpets, wall paper and updates styles. I have stayed at a lot of places and many Marriotts. I finally feel like this hotel is now back to the level I would expect from a Marriott property. I got there late and the clerk was very nice and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Myself and friend needed to get something to eat for dinner and breakfast and both the night and morning front desk person were very nice and gave us a list of options. The room was nice, it had a sitting area and even a sofa tray to put your food on and watch tv. The tv was on a swivel so you could watch it either in the bed or on the couch. It was by the elevator which was good. I like that check out is one hour later than other places that I've been to. I would recommend this hotel. read more

Obsessed with this hotel I was not! In my older (20 somethin') age, I've become a bit of a hotel snob. I've shacked up in some pretty dope places throughout my travels. From resorts in Orlando to boutique hotels in San Francisco, I've pretty much been there, done that. I used to not be too particular about where I stayed. You know what I'm talkin' about. We've all been in the situation where about 8 friends squeeze into one rinky dink hotel room during a trip just to save some coins! But, with all that said, by "snob" I mean I just want something neat, clean, spacious, and with a couple extra amenities like decent cable and a good internet connection! A view, outdoor pool, exercise room, and bar get you extra credit points. The Courtyard did have pretty decent cable, pool, exercise room, super comfy beds and pillows, and a very spacious room. On the other hand, the internet was almost unusable (is that a word?). I got nothin', people! Luckily I didn't spend too much time in the room, but come one. Decent internet is pretty much a necessity these days. The Courtyard needs to step their game up in this area. But what really annoyed me was the fact that I could hear evvvvverything. People walking in the hallway. People talking in their room. People walking above me. Sometimes you just wanna be in peace without having to hear your neighbors, that's all! I'll definitely stay here again because let's be honest... there aren't very many options in the Burg. But, when it comes to visiting my alma mater, I spend more time downtown and on campus anyway, so I'll cut them some slack! read more

Maybe I'm suffering from the "Contrast Effect" and thinking this place is better than it actually is because I just stayed in a crumby Marriot Courtyard, but this one seems pretty decent. It was remodeled only a few years ago, so it has pretty decent furniture, decorations, and lighting. The counter tops look like they are real granite. The colors are a little off in terms of decorations. The cabinets are cherry, the walls are yellow, the floor is blue and gold, and the linens are white and blue. It doesn't seem like everything "goes." They have a full breakfast buffet in the mornings for $8 or so, which is pretty reasonable. read more

Beautiful CLEAN Hotel! We arrived for one night while traveling to NC. The hotel is super clean, has a pool open till 11 pm and a Bistro with food and drinks open till 10 pm. The beds were super comfy too. Originally I booked a friend's and family rate, but found out when I got there I needed a specific form from my friend so I used my AAA card for that rate instead. Too be honest, although I paid almost $50 more it was worth it. We we're exhausted dealing with kids all day on the road so it was so nice to sit at the Bistro and have amazing food and a glass of wine. The food was pretty good. I had a chicken caesar salad while my husband had a chicken ciabatta sandwich which was pretty spicy. Almost​ too spicy. The Bistro had super friendly staff too who stayed open a late so we could have another drink or two. The waiters were very pleasant and had great personalities. We have a loved one in Warm Hearth Village so gravitate to hotels in that area. This was our first visit to this hotel. I've always been a fan of Marriott properties. Let me just say I knew going in that there was no breakfast provided free with the room. This is disappointing. It is such a nice convenience to not have to get all dressed up and go out to breakfast. However we did find a great diner to go to as a bonus from this experience. The hotel is located right on a busy road and there are businesses behind it so you have no chance of getting a room without outside noise. I asked for a room on the highest floor but the noise carried. Also we could clearly hear the people in the room next to us. The beds were comfortable and the room clean and looked to be recently updated. I won't be too enthusiastic about going back there but will if it's all that's available. read more

I'm a Courtyard connoisseur at this point, staying at them all over the place now. This one isn't recently renovated, but its nice, big and clean. The beds seemed comfier than the normal Courtyard beds, but everything else decor-wise seemed to be standard Courtyard decor. I LOVED that the remote to my TV actually worked, and I could easily find the TV guide so I could figure out what the local channels were. The only downside to these custom TV remotes is that I can never figure out how to set a sleep timer. I'm honestly not sure how the TV turned off... The staff was very nice when I checked in and out. The only downside to this hotel is that there really isn't anything very close-by, but I'd stay here again. read more

We came here after leaving the Fairfield Inn at 10 pm the night earlier (see my other review for the Fairfield Inn Christiansburg for more on that). Checkin was easy and the lady at the front desk was funny and amiable, so props there. The room was very nice, with molding around the ceiling, and comfortable beds. The bathroom was spotless and included a very nice shower. The lobby was not redone, however, it was very big and they did offer breakfast each morning for a very reasonable price. There's not much else to say as my stay lasted a total of about 11 hours. I'd definitely stay again, though! read more

Hadn't stayed in a Courtyard for awhile but was thoroughly impressed - fresh cookies at check-in, a shower and water pressure that will make you melt, uber-comfy bed,pillows and linens and a treadmill with a TV screen. Large clean rooms and huge lobby with areas for checking email, chatting and breakfast. The only downfall was the $7.95 continental breakfast...but hey you could always go with the bonus plan and get eggs prepared "your way". read more

I totally lucked out, with the spring football game going on and all the crazy hillbilly fans it attracted, the Fairfield was oversold and I was re-accommodated here. This was a fantastic newer hotel. Spacious welcoming lobby, friendly staff, clean room. They didn't have my preferred room type, and I generally hate handicapped rooms, but this one was a welcome change. Not the 80s-era hospital feel of most rooms this type. The bed was comfy, the pillows were good. The TV had tons of HD channel selection with some of the more eclectic cable channels. Huge two thumbs up to that. WiFi was free, but in my room the signal waned in and out. Really enjoyed the shower experience. Spacious tub, and plenty of bathroom counter space. Bring a car as there's not much in the way of food within walking distance. read more

As usual a totally dependable Marriott Courtyard. We had the overflow from the wedding stay here and they treated my guests very well. The kids enjoyed the pool, the location was near the other events of the weekend. The rooms were clean and comfortable. A bit more expensive than other places in town but for a 3 to 5 day stay you want a place you can relax in with no issues. Breakfast was excellent each morning and you could hang out in the lobby with the family members and chat without bothering others. read more

One of the best Marriotts I've ever stayed in. Management has a good understanding of how to lead staff. Enthusiasm from check-in to check-out. Rooms are contemporary and clean. A testament to the housekeeping team. The best is the "no slam" doors which allows for a peaceful nights sleep from those who are inconsiderate to other guests. No matter how hard you try, these doors can't be slammed. Wish all Marriott locations would implement this feature. I stayed here in October 2013 for a drug and alcohol training per part of my job. This was, in my option, a really nice hotel. My room was large, comfy bed, nice bathroom with plenty of room, and a nice desk area where I could do some work at night. I wish my husband and I had a reason to come to Blacksburg, we would definitely stay here. read more

My husband and I had a mini "staycation" here last night as an anniversary treat. We were both very impressed at the cleanliness, the hospitality, and the hotel itself. The room was spotless. Clean linens with not even the tiniest stain, no dust, no grime. The bathroom was just as clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, with plenty of fluffy pillows. Everything was properly stocked - we had plenty of towels, plenty of the little soaps and shampoos, etc. I fell totally in love with the jacuzzi! The jets and water temperature were perfect. The employees were very courteous, very friendly, and willing to help on all fronts. The hotel itself is very pretty. Wide, spacious lobby with cozy sofas. A beautiful outside patio to lounge in. The pool area is well maintained and enjoyable. All in all, I really like this spot and think we'll definitely return for any in town getaways we may indulge in! read more

Have stayed here multiple times with no issues except the last stay I was given the wrong room. So incredibly disappointed in the service at the Blacksburg VA Courtyard! I prepaid for a room with 2 beds! Upon check in I received my keys to find that it's a small sized room with 1 King and 4 people! Front desk says they can't do anything because they are sold out! The person offered to bring a blow up mattress. He walks into the room and hands it to me to blow up! This is THE worst service we have ever received! To top it off they decided that they didn't charge us enough upon prepaid booking, so they added additional fees on my card. After going back and forth no one could explain the charges. I finally took it to Twitter where I received a generic we are sorry and will look into it. Received a blanket email from the GM making an attempt to explain what went wrong. It was by far the worst 2 night hotel stay ever! 4 people squeezed into a room with a mediocre air mattress, might as well have slept on the floor! read more

Really very happy with the service and quality of accommodations. Getting a last minute reservation to attend a funeral was difficult, despite my status, because they were sold out and I needed a large room to accommodate 2 adults and 2 large teen boys. But they called me - just like they said they would, when a room became available and were kind enough to offer me a much discounted grievance rate. The staff was friendly and helpful, a special shout out here for Tanya. And the room was clean and large. Parking and access were also good. The lobby was comfortable and the boys enjoyed having breakfast in the comfy swivel chairs. I'd love to stay here again when visiting the area for happier occasions. read more

Extremely accommodating staff and great hotel. Close location to the stadium which made it an easy commute to the game. Rooms were very spacious and clean with good amenities; very good value. The GM, Tom, could not have been more helpful and nice. Not to mention they served an amazing continental breakfast that was more like a grand buffet for only $5 per person.
