We had a good time at this courtyard in Blacksberg. It was a nice hotel room. I really enjoyed the balcony and the overlook. It came in handy well looking over into the parking lot in the road. We had a good time and I would stay here again.

Finally got to see South Park!

Nice hotel and staff. Noticed a musty mildewy odor as soon as you walk in. Rooms smelled fresh no mildew. Initially we got a room that had the bed facing in one direction and the TV was off to the side. It did have a swivel stand but even then it wasn't good and there was a piece of furniture blocking part of it still. We complained and were assigned a new room which was better. I got the impression most of the rooms have this swivel TV. There is no free coffee or breakfast like most hotels in this class have but they do have a bistro that you can buy breakfast or dinner at. I got a bagel and a Starbucks coffee. Neither were particularly good. There are NO PETS ALLOWED. The reason for the caps here is that there are many many signs that NO PETS are ALLOWED. There's a hefty fee if they find you sneaked in a pet. Something like $250. So they really really don't want pets there. I would stay there again if I needed to be in the area. It was what I would say "good enough". Oh and hey it's in South Park Dr.

Since they are going through a major lobby renovation it is not a great time to review. However, I will be fair. Just last week the property began a renovation to a bistro concept lobby. These are really great and will be a huge bonus to the hotel when complete in late Spring. The entrance has been moved to the side of the building until construction is complete. No other amenities are affected with this, only lobby. The property around the exterior excellent. Other than a small trash can by the door that was full and appears to had got knocked over. The sand used for putting on cigarettes was on the concrete. Check-in was flawless and info given out on breakfast at 6 AM in the conference room with construction. The room was in great shape and looked like it had a recent renovation. It seemed to be and over sized double, there was lots of room. Enough for a full size chair. Also nice deep drawers and a wide closet. The breakfast ended up being problematic. The staff was never ready at 6 AM and left me waiting each morning, one time until almost 6:20 AM. With a deadline needed to get out 20 min was huge. Most food was above to average. The eggs on my last day were ice cold. Waffle batter was not filled up all the way from the beginning and had to tip, same with syrup that started out low. The woman who assisted each day did not seem to want to be there. Another issue came up too, this was around key cards. Mine was deactivated twice. I was told this happens all of the time like it was something typical. Well I can tell you it's not typical and was a pain. Once they have construction completed only things smooth out. But at this point a solid three is appropriate and I would come back.

Very nice, clean. Pleasant staff. Bistro nice, but expensive somewhat. Service good. Desk attendants very pleasant & professional. No free breakfast. Yes 3 free newspapers. Limited parking. Chargers-2-for those who have electric cars.

I stayed at this hotel a few months ago and I just thought it was so so... It appears that it's had a much needed facelift! Really enjoying the new carpets, wall paper and updates styles. I have stayed at a lot of places and many Marriotts. I finally feel like this hotel is now back to the level I would expect from a Marriott property. It's amazing what a little updating will do to having a restful night and feeling comfortable.

Obsessed with this hotel I was not! In my older (20 somethin') age, I've become a bit of a hotel snob. I've shacked up in some pretty dope places throughout my travels. From resorts in Orlando to boutique hotels in San Francisco, I've pretty much been there, done that. I used to not be too particular about where I stayed. You know what I'm talkin' about. We've all been in the situation where about 8 friends squeeze into one rinky dink hotel room during a trip just to save some coins! But, with all that said, by "snob" I mean I just want something neat, clean, spacious, and with a couple extra amenities like decent cable and a good internet connection! A view, outdoor pool, exercise room, and bar get you extra credit points. The Courtyard did have pretty decent cable, pool, exercise room, super comfy beds and pillows, and a very spacious room. On the other hand, the internet was almost unusable (is that a word?). I got nothin', people! Luckily I didn't spend too much time in the room, but come one. Decent internet is pretty much a necessity these days. The Courtyard needs to step their game up in this area. But what really annoyed me was the fact that I could hear evvvvverything. People walking in the hallway. People talking in their room. People walking above me. Sometimes you just wanna be in peace without having to hear your neighbors, that's all! I'll definitely stay here again because let's be honest... there aren't very many options in the Burg. But, when it comes to visiting my alma mater, I spend more time downtown and on campus anyway, so I'll cut them some slack!

The hotel is charming, in that it feels a little vintage, but all of the important things are modern. The beds are comfy, the bathroom area has two sinks, and the fitness center is decent and there's a Virginia Tech campus store on site. But what really blew me away was the breakfast buffet. Now, I'm a notorious buffet pooh-pooher. I don't like buffets and try to avoid them if I can. But I could not avoid the breakfast buffet if I tried. This is probably the best breakfast spread that I have ever experienced in a hotel. There are things like smoothie shots, steel-cut oatmeal with several different toppings, fresh fruit, dairy-free yogurt parfaits, baked goods, real scrambled eggs and lots more. The whole setup was extremely clean and tidy, which was appreciated by me. Also, the coffee was great! In the afternoon and evenings, the bar is open, which I visited one evening to meet up with a friend. They don't have a huge wine list, but they got them some wine, if that's what you're after. They have a full bar, ranging from cocktails to hard seltzer. The people at the front desk are young, and I wonder if they are students at VT. They were super helpful and friendly. This is the place to stay if you want to explore Virginia Tech or downtown Blacksburg. Everything is within walking distance from the hotel. I walked from the hotel to the Virginia Tech monument in about seven minutes or so. The campus is beautiful, and if you decide to explore off campus, there are lots of shops and restaurants across the street, so there is lots to see and experience around the hotel.

My top-tier chum and I came down to Blacksburg because she wanted to visit her old campus for the…read morefirst time since she graduated about 25 years ago (yes, we are ancient and whatnot). One of the first decisions we made on this trip (and she made it) was where we would stay in Blacksburg, and my chum insisted on coming here so that we were actually on campus and she could test out The Inn, which wasn't here during her time. Apparently the local highway setup is also different, so it was a pleasant surprise to find this hotel very easily; lots of nearby signage and oodles of parking. It was also pretty accessible to the downtown area, a walk of approximately 10 minutes. This was my first time at VA Tech - I've driven down 81 past the exit, but never actually laid eyes on the campus. Like pretty much all of the buildings nearby associated with the university, The Inn seems to be made of this Hokie Stone material that can be, I assume, mined or something nearby. It makes for a pretty pleasant optic, but literally every building has it so there's not much that really distinguishes the Inn or its neighboring structures from each other, other than a few really prominent buildings nearby. We had a room on the second floor a short walk from the lobby/check-in area (which was nice enough - it had a small fireplace with seating nearby, a Hokie statue and a little storefront to buy toiletries, snacks, etc.). It was clean and perfectly fine; this isn't a 5-star hotel, but that's not an insult, as it's not claiming to be. If you saw the room without any context, it just looks like an Embassy Suites or something to that effect. This part of our trip was more about exploring and reacquainting my chum with her ye olde college life so we really didn't spend a ton of time in the room beyond sleeping/napping; that activity went very well in my estimation, so the beds were comfortable enough. We also made use of the gym on the first floor for about 15 minutes' worth of cardio; no complaints there. Depending on your perspective, it was very quiet during our stay. Graduation was a week earlier so the vast majority of the student population was already gone, and we didn't see a ton of people in the hotel or on campus beyond employees and construction workers taking advantage of the offseason. I think it would had a more exciting vibe with an uptick in visitors (especially in the above average bar/restaurant off to the left of the lobby, The Loyal), but I'm definitely not complaining about the peace and quiet. We had a very pleasant interaction with one of the staffers at reception when we got there, who was from NJ as well and was helpful/accommodating with our questions. None of our other exchanges were notable or particularly lengthy, but we were greeted with a smile by literally everyone we encountered. If that's not the definition of hospitality, I don't know what it is (I'm sure my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality down the street could speak to that at length). A nice experience all the way around, and The Inn served its purpose.

We were passing through town and needed only a quick stop and at a little more than 100 bucks/night, I was impressed with the value. I haven't stayed in a lot of Residence Inns, but the few times I have, I think, would I be able to deal with an extended stay? I think I could here, given the size of the rooms and there's a big lobby with couches and fireplace as well as a decent (small gym). The bed is very comfortable with good sheets. I wouldn't want to cook up a serious meal but the kitchen would allow for basic dishes. The living room space has a little set up with a decent sized TV. They allow pets. One thing we ran into was the walls were thin and we could hear a barking dog and people right next to us. Luckily they were able to move us. Other than that, a good stay, in and out with a full night's rest before getting back on the road. I'd definitely opt to stay here again when making this annual road trip between NY and NOLA.

We make routine trips with Blacksburg as a pit stop and will be bookmarking this as a preference for our overnights there, for sure. Arriving late and not lingering in the area next day, we admittedly picked the least pricey of the several mid-level, familiar chains, but got real value for our buck and believe this would be a terrific and reasonable-priced hub even for multi-night stays. Just a 5-min drive to the Main Street shops & restaurants, though night arrivals be forewarned even the "late-night" options there were shut up tight by 10:30, so we had to grab sandwiches at the 24/7 grill at the nearby Sheetz. Also, as we checked in, I did spot good, basic stocking of the snack food and other options in the hotel "market." Overall notes: This hotel is what we call "house proud" -- the managers and staff seem truly invested in the physical plant and in customer service. It appeared scrupulously clean, with small details thoughtfully made, and everyone was professional and friendly, even late-night staffers. As someone else noted, care and a sweet-natured creativity is spent on decor at each entry, even the back. I don't necessarily require happy little displays, but I do appreciate that those and the well-maintained landscaping reflect the attention paid to upkeep. While there's no grand view, it's not an industrial area (small strip malls and well-known chains nearby) and the trees planted all around the parking lot screen from the road. We had a fifth floor (topmost) room and it was quiet -- no road noise at all. I noted that room numbers ending in 18/19 are closest to elevators and might be a little noisier. The rooms were very tidy, as noted. (Passed my routine bedbug testing.) no signs of prior tenants -- I think it's a pet-friendly hotel but none of my allergies triggered. Clearly remodeled in this decade, spacious with a sofa in our King room. Table-tops on both sides of the bed with both outlets and USB slots. Lamp on one side, lots of conveniently placed outlets. Also a discreet nightlight in the bathroom -- MICH appreciated detail most chains overlook. Plenty of thick, fluffy towels. Keurig-style coffee maker with laughably short cord but multiple pods and lots of cups. As reviews noted, both light-filtering and blackout curtains. Easy to control temperatures. The wall unit was a little noisy when it kicked in, as they often are in hotels. It did not wake us but if you're a super light sleeper, you might need ear plugs for that. PLUS: Very comfy bed with varied filling pillows. The best sleep I've had this trip, including at our hosts' home. I'll say again: Excellent value for the money.
