My husband travels a lot for business and I go with about half of the time. We've always stay at Marriott. This hotel is the worst Marriott experience we've ever had. You couldn't pay me to stay at this hotel again!!!! The staff is unprofessional and rude. The room had a spa/big tub in the common area which had wall paper peeling off the wall and under that was mold. There were mild stains on the ceiling too, as if it was painted over. That's just unhealthy. We also requested extra towels one day and maid service didn't even knock - they just walked right in. Petty, but it's matter of respect and privacy. We completed the email we got from Marriott to review our stay. The next day we got a FORM email from the General Manager saying (in so many words), "sorry your stay was not great, but too bad." The lady who checked us in was very aloof, said very little and seemed like we were bothering her. No courtesy whatsoever. Our entire floor smelled of marijuana. After checking each floor, it was ONLY our floor. My 11 & 4 year old kept asking why it was so stinky and I find it difficult to believe staff didn't know this was going on. The main reason we chose this location and paid the extra money was for the indoor pool and hot tub. We were unable to use either at any point during our stay because the pool was freezing and the hot tub was closed down with no explanation. I truly enjoyed my last stay in this hotel but after this last experience, I will not spend my money there again and will let others know not to waste their money as well. It's such a shame that our weekend could be so disrupted in so many ways... read more

My husband arrived on Tuesday 8/24, when he woke up Wednesday morning his truck was broken into along with several (3+) other vehicles. My husband was parked less than 20 feet away from the door. The hotel manager told the police he didn't know how to work the cameras. This break in happened around 5:30 according to my husband vehicle tracking report. Upon speaking to the police he said he was still waiting for Camera footage from last Week. There were several other vehicle that was broken into the previous week. It appears to be very odd that they have had more than 30 break in to occur on this property this month and they haven't invested in security or police drive by. I made a reservation for day time use several days prior to my arrival through Dayuse.com for use of a room from 8am-6pm. I am a health care worker and needed a room for rest after a 14 hour shift. I called to confirm my stay a few hours prior to my arrival. When I arrived I was told I had no reservation even though I had received a confirmation email with the correct date, time, and hotel. In the email confirmation I was quoted a price of $75. I was offered a room and my debit card was charged $110. The room was clean however the television did not work and the dresser was missing a handle. As I tried to sleep the hotel staff was vacuuming outside my door which I expected with day time use of a room. When I checked out I again asked about the charge to make sure the $75 quote was honored and I was told that they could not give me a receipt but they would email a receipt to me. It has been 4 days now and I still have yet to receive anything from Marriott and my bank card has been charged $110. I will never return to this hotel nor will I refer anyone to the Courtyard by Marriott in Gastonia, NC. My coworker who is also a healthcare worker stays at the Marriott competitors two door down the road and only pays $55 foe day time use. I will use them in the future. Gastonia Courtyard denied our son a stay the evneing of his Guard Duty becuase he wasn't 21. Old enough to serve in the military and defend our country , but can't stay in your hotel (ON PARENT'S CC) . CHANGE YOUR OUTDATED AND RIGID POLICIES MARRIOTT!!! it was a HARD NO the minute he walked in and showed his ID, parents tried to call and explain that he has to stay the evening due to having to be at the Gastonia Guard duty station very early in the AM. FUNNY, other hotels in the area relax the under 21 for kids servinig in the military (ESEPCIALLY when they put the room on their parents card), but not Courtyard, so you were going to put a US Military personelle out on the street to SLEEP IN HIS CAR. There's black mold growing on the balconies, internet never really worked, even though we were told the pool would be open when making reservations, upon checking in we were told it would be the next day, to which the pool never opened. I guess it was something with the health department and they failed inspection. The staff were really nice, but that's all I can say about this place that's good. read more

I had a one night visit on a work trip to this location! Pulling into the parking lot it looked promising! The parking lot was well lit and easy accessible with plenty of food options within walking distance! Walking into the lobby I was greeted by the desk clerk and the lobby was neat, clean, and organized and check in was an ease! Walking into the room, it was neat and in order! Then into the bathroom which was clean for the most part except the mold around the tub! The toilet had and issue and tan constantly with a high pitched noise! After dinner we wanted to have a relaxing evening in the hot tub which didn't work the water was cold and nasty! So we just got into the indoor heated pool that wasn't heated but wasn't all that cold either! After swimming we walked around a little and noticed an outdoor fire pit so we decided to sit by it for a bit but soon found out it didn't work either and appeared to not have for a while! We travel all over the U.S. and have stayed in more hotels than you could imagine. We are in Gastonia due to our son being in intensive care at the local hospital. We selected this hotel due to it being close to the hospital and restaurants. We've been here seven days and just booked another seven. We didn't have time to read reviews we just hoped for the best. We got the best. Room is clean, bathroom clean with great towels. Coffee maker, refrigerator, business desk and chair, lounge chair, Plenty of room and space. Bistro for meals and drinks in the lobby. Pool and beautiful lobby. Front desk staff are the best and the housekeeping is the cleanest I've seen in a hotel. We give everyone 5 stars here. We hope we can come back to visit this wonderful town and hotel under better circumstances. read more

I checked in on 06/03 for a work assignment when I checked out approximately at 7:30am Monday I noticed fresh bug bites on the back of my neck and on my left arm as the day went on early afternoon the bites were burning and extremely itchy. I called the hotel to express my concern. I told them I suspected bedbugs There was no sense of urgency I was told the manager on site wasn't available to talk to me. I left a message on his voice mail. He never called back. On Tuesday I called the corporate office and filed a complaint I got a call from the manager after speaking with the corporate office. He told me he had put the room as out of order and had scheduled a professional pest control inspection on Thursday for bedbugs...he also told me he would be giving me the result of that inspection on Thursday at noon. Today is Thursday and I have left 3 messages and was continuously told he was not available I left a few messages and still no response. I did get medical attention from my primary care DR She told me they were bedbug bites I received prescriptions for treatment of bedbugs. This is an urgent situation that gets swept under the rug. I will not be ignored until I get the acknowledgment and treatment I deserve! read more

We stayed 2 nights in king suite with tub. The room was exceptionally clean. It is a true suite with a large sitting area and wet bar with fridge and microwave. The staff was great from front desk to bistro to maid service, all friendly and helpful. We ran into the maintenance manager in the hall and he stopped to introduce himself and ask how we enjoyed our stay and to get him personally if any issues came up. There were 2 events going on in meeting rooms Sat. Night and no issues with noise or kids running in halls. We ate in breakfast in bistro twice and it is Starbucks branded and quality. Great hotel for parents getaway or family trip stop. Keep up the great service! read more

Sometimes Customer Service goes a long way! Sometimes customer service can turn a 3-star review into a 4-star or even a 5-star . It is an area while the consumer will never take for granted or even underestimate. My experience at the Courtyard Charlotte Gastonia did not fall from that expecation. In fact, it has raised expectation from the courtesy. Want to shouut out Mr. Jansen who went out of his way not only to make the stay great but went above and beyond the courtesy of his job parameters not only for myself but from afar how he treated well all the guests that he intereacted with. I saw on TripAdvisor he was a legend his name popping up on this hotel for his fantastic work. Had to see for myself. He was very direct, friendly. Allowed early check in when most places would no had to. Provided excellent recommendations while in the area. Overall, just turned your typical courtyard charlotte gastonia experience as something to continue to go for in the future hoping the customer service would duplicate. As far as the property, free parking that can fill up on the weekend as it shares a lot with the Fairfield Inn Suites. About 20 minutes south from Charlotte at a favorable price. 1 minute from the Interstate. There are local dining options in the area and a Buffalo Wild Wings an exit away. One of the best managed 'smaller' properties we've visited. The staff was always available and excessively friendly, ready to help, suggest information, and provide an overall incredible experience during our stay. General Manager Charles E. Jones Sr. said it was the staff that kept the hotel's reputation up. It was just a hop, skip, and jump to I-85 and cities beyond. Top notch staff. As we prepared to leave, the desk clerk warned us to wait until we got to South Carolina to buy gasoline: "It's 50-cents a gallon cheaper just across the (nearby) state line," she said. (And, upon arriving in Spartanburg, SC, we found gasoline below $3.39/gallon - beating the $3.83 + in Tidewater, VA - when we left days before). A great suggestion that was volunteered by the staff. You are not guaranteed a room at this hotel, even if you book it in advance, and check in through their app. I arrived after a very long day of travel, meetings and a late dinner and was told they gave my room away. They did not call me to confirm if I was coming or not coming, although they acknowledged that I had checked in online. They offered me a hotel 30 minutes away, which was not s real option as it was late and I didn't have transportation. The new general manager did not proactively reach out to me, I had to reach out to her two days after the event. My company is a large user of this hotel. The manager explains that this can happen at any hotel and justified the decision to give my room away. Absolutely no confidence that it won't happen again. Stayed twice to visit an ailing relative nearby. Because we were traveling with infants, we wanted a 2 room suite, and this is the only hotel in town if that's what you want. Conveniently located next to a Cracker Barrel and Waffle House for breakfast. Rooms were clean, suites were spacious, bathrooms were oddly enormous. Horrible hotel. Not up to standard. I was there for 3 nights and 4 days on a business trip. For the entire stay . . management letting locals (non paying guests) use hotel and amenities and pretending not to notice. Pretty sure night manager is in on it. No coffee in room, first morning out of coffee in lobby. Only one dryer in entire hotel working and management was aware of it and didn't even put a sign on the ones out of order. Pool and hot tub filthy. Due to covid I had to make an appointment to use the pool and hot tub only to have to share it with locals using it for free who were sketchy, drinking, arguing, etc. Could not use credit card at cafe entire stay - either pay cash or charge to room only option. Homeless living in adjacent woods coming in and out of parking lot and cutting through hotel and courtyard right in front of management's eyes and they turned a blinds eye. Abandoned vehicle in parking lot - appears someone living in it. I felt very unsafe. Had to pay over $4 for one beer in lobby and got charged twice. Very loud - party hotel like a college dorm or hotel in a vacation spot - again locals. Will never stay there again. read more

I am extremely disappointed at my stay. The price was over $50 past the neighboring competitors. Came in late with my family after driving all day and was told BREAKFAST WAS COMPLEMENTARY only to discover the next morning it was pay only. The "free" wifi wasn't secured with a password. My room must have had a leak come through from upstairs because there was a terrible patch job around my shower head. We booked and confirmed a room with 2 beds and this hotel not only gave our room away, they tried to tell us the pull out sofa in the one bed rooms was very comfortable. It had been a very long day for us, it was late, and we were very tired and did not want to pay for a room and sleep on a sofa. We had driven up from Charleston because my father was ill and my son flew down from Chicago and was with us. They also told us they were charging us as a no show and our card would be charged. This property makes me sad. I worked in the hotel industry for 5 years, and I'm an elite Marriott member, and I don't like to critique negatively, but this property needs a sound slamming. So my hub and I check into this place at midnight a few days ago and the night auditor has two dudes pounding McDonald's and staring at us when we check in. The room is smoky because the next door room is smoking (despite being a smoke free property) and the room is in dusty disrepair. I do check mattresses upon check in because bed bugs and other nasties are prevalent, and I find multiple blood stains and vomit stains as well as bug excrement shells. I call the front desk and get the night auditor who can't understand why I might possibly need anything- she is visibly annoyed. We get a new room after much prodding and explanation- and it's marginally better than the last. This property is clearly an older Courtyard- they came in and redid the lobby, leaving the rooms almost original to the property. So eventually we get a new, marginally better room and after spraying the room with lysol and freaking out over the hazmat-type scene, we tried to sleep over the bed linens. I woke up around 4am with itching and red spots. Just please pick a property somewhere else-- north of this location- it is not up to par. read more

THIEVES!! If you stay here, do NOT TAKE ANYTHING OF VALUE WITH YOU. Do not stay here. The cleaning staff stole my earrings, which were SAFELY tucked away in my jewelry case in a special pocket -- meaning the housekeeper who stole them had to be rifling through my bags pretty throughly. The case was in the bathroom. I was staying here for work for a week, and therefore was gone at least 8 hours of the day. When I discovered my earrings were gone, I contacted the hotel manager who was questioning my story, saying "that employee has been here for ten years," as some type of excuse not to question or fire that housekeeper. Not only were they rude and condescending about the missing large aquamarine stone stud earrings, but they didn't offer me any type of compensation. I'll never stay in this hotel again. read more

Went to the Bistro for a glass of wine, first 2 choices, " we don't have that" settled for a beer and a ginger ale... 8.50! Light burned out in bathroom..breakfast not included with room rate... not even a complimentary coffee pot in the lobby.. 2 coffees..$4.60!! The front desk staff are friendly, but marginally helpful. The rooms are clean and housekeeping is friendly and attentive. The Big problem: The walls are paper thin. The light from one room travels through to the next room at the ceiling. So, as you can imagine, every sound, conversation, and noise travels into your room as if they were literally in the room with you. Entire conversations and TV can be heard and, god forbid, you wish to sleep or simply have some quiet. It seems to be the social gathering place in Gastonia for the weekends, so Fridays and Saturdays seem to be quite busy-and noisy. In 6 weeks, I only called the desk for help with the noise on 2 occasions and this was for late Saturday night noisy partying going on in the hallway. read more

I was happily surprised by the sanitation rating of 100% given just four days before my visit but I think either the hotel knew in advance about this inspection or just failed to clean after the inspection. I stayed in a basic King room and the room was clean and up to par but it was the rest of the hotel that blew my mind and not in a good way. My girlfriend and I booked times for the pool (per Coronavirus protocol) and when people were in the pool during our allotted time we were told there was nothing they could do, but the sign on the door stated that people needed to book on an hour to hour time slot. This was the least concerning part of my trip however. I stayed from June 27th to July 5th 2020 and the pool appeared cloudy and green but I assumed that it was because the employees were putting chemicals in regularly. This was not the case, the water was actually so filthy that both my girlfriend and myself got a rash known as hot tub rash due to the high levels of bacteria in the water. It is currently days after my visit and we are both in extreme pain from the bumps. I was curious as to why only one elevator was on but it did not bother me until my girlfriend walked by and a cockroach walked in front of her from the elevator followed by another one and they walked back into the elevator but not before she snapped pictures of them. Overall worst hotel I have ever stayed at and that is saying a lot because I travel regularly. This has changed my view on all Marriotts and I do not think I will ever stay at another one. I will also make sure any of my other California Bay Area friends know of my experience. read more

I stayed at this Courtyard Marriott on March 15, 2018. I cannot express just how much I enjoyed staying here. The front desk staff was very quick and efficient in checking me in for my stay. Let me preface my statement by saying that I am extremely particular with cleanliness when I stay in hotels. The room was extremely clean even to my expectations. The furnishings were very up-to-date. I slept very well due to the fact that there was no outside noise whatsoever and the mattress was very comfortable. Bedding looked brand new. The room was very nicely equipped. When I checked out the next morning, I noticed that the hotel has 100% rating. I was not surprised. I have stayed in a lot of Marriott's in the U.S.; however, this one in particular is a step even beyond the best! I would highly recommend this hotel if you are going to be in the Charlotte/Mecklenberg area. read more

Stayed here for 9 days for business. The lobby/common area is trendy and enjoyable. The staff were friendly. Rooms very clean and of average size. Bar and restaurant (via bar menu) have decent options with quality better than expected. Really enjoyed socializing outside around the fire pit with friends.
