This is my second time staying at the Courtyard Marriott in Chester, Virginia, and I must say, the newly renovated property is fantastic! I stayed here about a year ago, and while the lobby looks relatively the same, the upgrades to the hallways, sleeping rooms, and decor are a huge improvement. The modern design is sleek and functional. The new carpet, furniture, and overall decor in the sleeping rooms are very upscale. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful room features, like the refrigerator with a separate freezer, a microwave, and plenty of charging options for devices. I often travel with multiple devices, and having so many accessible charging ports was a pleasant surprise. The bathroom was excellent--upscale and clean--and the bed was firm, which is exactly how I prefer it. The lighting in the room, especially the backlighting behind the TV, added a touch of sophistication to the space. The only thing that stood out as a minor issue was the new wallpaper. While it looks gorgeous, you can see some residue from the installation, which takes away slightly from the otherwise flawless renovation. Also, the elevators appear to have been left out of the updates--hopefully, they're next on the list! Lawana at the front desk provided exceptional service during check-in. Despite being busy with several guests waiting, she was calm, professional, and attentive, making the process seamless. She is an excellent representation of the kind of customer service Marriott is known for. Stayed there on our way back to Florida .the beds are soft like a mash mellow not recommended if you have a bad back ! We had to change room 421 the moldy smell was overwhelming as we open the door I looked at the a/c filter block by forth and something else ( black tar looking stuff ? ) the front desk attendant came up and give us another room 426 smells a bit less moldy, the a/c filters were clean in this one! the room was old and furniture was used sofa chair looking old would not sit in it . Bathroom looking like bate motel towels scratchiest I felt in a long time ,also ants in the night stand and in fridge area .paid over $200 & no breakfast included ! I can't recommend this place! sorry Marriott I was expecting more ! read more

Bring your ear plugs and your eye mask for your one night stay. Clean! Many chain and a few local restaurants on the list that the front desk had available. We went with Rosa's, a short walk up the hill away from the highway. Light from hallway and light switch night light outside of the bathroom were brutal. Busy loud road in front of the property. Great water pressure in shower. More polyester than cotton in towels. Considering the convenience to route 95 this is a 4 star experience. We didn't try the bar/food options. My bet is that they'd be fine. read more

This is the worst Marriott hotel I have ever stayed at, and I travel quite a bit for work. The bed has the stankiest funk smell that literally made me gag. I reported it to the front desk around 5 pm and their solution was to give me sheets to replace myself, because housekeeping was no longer here. Wrong. They said they would get back to me. I come back from dinner at 8 and nothing had been done. I tell the new person working the situation and I'm told the same solution. I was polite both times this was told to me. I now say "I don't want to make a stink about this but I've now been told twice that I am to change the stink of what is in this bed? I paid for a clean room for the night and that's not what I'm getting." She figured it out and changed the sheets. Well, it's not the sheets. It's the mattress and it's fowl. They didn't have another room to put me in because they are fully booked, as is every other hotel in a ten mile radius. So, I got to put a towel between the mattress and the sheet. At 6:11 am (mind you I'm a west coaster so I finally fell asleep at 1), a Cisco truck pulled in the front entranceway for a delivery. Had to reverse in with reverse beeping noise and woke me up. Then sat with the diesel running for the next 15 minutes while he unloaded. All of this heard over the white noise I had playing in the room. This place is gross. In serious need of a upgrade or at least a deep clean. I legit am wearing sandals while walking around in my room. Stay ANYWHERE else. read more

The last of 3 courtyards in 4 nights on a recent Philly road trip... Whether owned independently or by Marriott, they still all must have similar stuff.... bistro, roam layouts, etc. This one had been recently remodeled and had new furniture and bedding. They also had a beautiful outdoor veranda with firepits. The weather cooperated (70s in April) and my friend and I enjoyed some outdoor time. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Its also in an area that has lots of places to eat while being 10-15 miles from a big city (Richmond). I'd return in a minute if I am in the area! read more

To start, the place seemed okay when I walked in. I got to the checkout counter and noticed the lady in her office not wearing a mask and touching her face a lot without sanitizing. I decided to ignore this at first and got to the elevator. People inside the hotel were deliberately ignoring the mask rule, so I stayed far away and got a different elevator. When I got to my room, the refrigerator wasn't even plugged in, one of the lights not even plugged in and I couldn't find the plug to plug it in to use it, and the sheets and comforter were all damp and cold and wet. I asked for new bedding, and the lady asked me to come downstairs and get it - and I had to change out the bedding myself, but she only gave me sheets - so I still had to try to sleep with a wet comforter. Oh and, when I stepped off the elevator onto my floor for the first time - the hallway reeked of marijuana. On top of this; the listing did not specify that the restaurant would be closed (I'm assuming because of COVID - but it was still listed as an amenity) Will never be staying here again Attached pictures are how nasty the mattress was when I was going to change the sheets. I have stayed at this property 3 times in the last 2-months. As a Marriott Titanium member I have a certain expectation when I stay at a Marriott property. There were little things that caught my eye - for example, only 1 of the elevators worked. They gym and Bistro were closed due to Covid (however the cost for the room was the same). When you pushed "5" in the elevator and reached your floor the "6" was actually displayed. The rooms are clean but not really with the "fresh" smell of just being cleaned. I was in room 511 on my last stay and there was that odor of smoke lingering in the air. Like I said, it is the little things. All in all not a bad hotel if you are not turned away by the attention to detail. I would certainly stay here again. read more

The hotel was fine. The staff were helpful and polite. The room was clean. The water pressure was even what I would have to call robust. But the mattress was a little lumpy. And I have a standing gripe with all Courtyard Marriott hotels, in that I believe when I pay $150+ per night to stay at a hotel, they should have a pot of hot complimentary coffee in the lobby around the clock. It's a cheap and simple courtesy that you get in much cheaper hotels, but Marriott has made a corporate decision that they would rather sell us a $4 cup of coffee at their "bistro" than give us what only costs them about a nickel. It's just not good hospitality in my book, and the only way corporate will get that is if we as customers voice our dissatisfaction when we stay, and choose to stay elsewhere when we can. read more

Kind of tired and outdated, for a Marriott, my room had wall paper peeling off of wall with over soft beds and dorm room style furniture. Restaurant (Bistro) has limited menu of leftover tasting food. No free coffee or fresh fruit in mornings, very basic, clean, nice staff. read more

I stayed at this location the weekend of October 6th-7th. The only complaint I have is the room just felt wet. We ended up opening the door to the balcony and it seemed to help but late at night it felt like the whole bed was just wet. I've run into this problem recently with some hotels and it grosses me out. Otherwise, the hotel was very nice. Check in process was easy, the room was clean, and the staff was very polite. When we were leaving on checkout day, one of the housekeepers even asked us how we enjoyed our stay which doesn't happen very often in a lot of hotels. Everyone here seems to take great pride in their work. I would probably return for another stay if the opportunity comes up again. read more

Terrible hotel. When I went to check in at 6:00 pm they said my room was not ready yet and would not be for another hour. The hotel and room were very very dirty. The elevator did not work either. The girl at the front desk is all alone and clueless. Doesn't even care. I've asked for the General Manager to call me and so far two hours later still no call. They steal money and then lie about it! They allowed me (manager standing right there) to check out early and then went back and charged my card the next day! When I went and disputed the charges they lied about the entire situation. We were there for a tournament that was cancelled. I booked this hotel for my wedding party. Marina Pappos and I agreed on a price for each room which included free breakfast. The hotel chose not to honor the free breakfast for my guests, meaning each had to pay $10-$15. In addition, I had to get on the phone on my wedding day to try to resolve the situation. Marina chose to lie to the manager and say that we never agreed to such a deal. I had to let the situation go since I was getting married. I did, however, call the corporate office when I was back from my honeymoon and, after investigations through various emails, each guest was refunded a partial amount based on the lies that Marina told. This, obviously, put a bad taste in my mouth regarding this hotel. It was clean and relatively nice, but the customer service we received means we will never frequent this hotel again. read more

In case that wasn't enough excitement spiders were included. I stayed at this hotel to attend an orientation with Shamin Hotels, which is headquartered right behind the hotel and in which the hotel complex is named after. I really liked the room. The bed was comfortable and I got to relax in the whirlpool which was in the room beside the bed. The staff were excellent and I'm sure I'll be back. read more

I've been to other Courtyard Marriots' before, and this is by far the worst one. I went downstairs to get Starbucks coffee (which they should be trained to make) and instead of a caramel macchiato I was served a caramel milk. The woman making the drink had no idea what she was doing. The rooms also feel damp, and the service is slow. I expected more from this hotel. UPDATE: They won't deliver towels to your room if you need extra. Never went to a hotel that did that. read more

I have been staying at the Courtyard for the last few weeks and have completely enjoyed my time here! The front desk staff have made me feel right at home. Amber ensures that all guests are taken care of during the night shift. Her and Nathan always wished me a great day when I left early in the mornings. Bobby works the weekends and always had good recommendations for activities for my downtime. Chelsea and Kendra always greeted me so warmly when I came home. They both work very hard and they should be commended for their hospitality! Hasan just started working here and I can already tell he will be a fantastic asset to this great front desk staff. And I have to save a big THANK YOU to Lawana. This hotel would not be the same without her!! She goes out of her way for ALL guests and shows the highest respect for coworkers. Kudos to Lawana! I had some fantastic housekeepers who worked hard to ensure my room was clean and that I had everything I needed. Thank you so much to Timotea, Ashley, Brittany and Reesey. I never wanted for anything! I saw Dametriss, another housekeeper, a few times and she always greeted me with a warm smile and asked how my stay was. It's small things like this that helped my stay feel like a home away from home. The workers in the bistro are wonderful. The morning ladies are up early but give you a cheerful smile. Regina was always happy to see me and other guests. Hannah, Ayla and Nancy make some of the best food you've ever had. Highly recommend eating here. If you don't have the time, Jane makes a great Starbucks coffee and gets you on your way quick! The evening Bistro workers were great as well. Esther and Grace spend quality time with your guests and show they care in so many little ways. Alma and Ronald are quiet but hard workers. The food was always delicious and they catered to the few allergies I have. Finally the maintenance in this hotel are phenomenal. They work very hard to keep this place looking its best at all times. Larry leads a great team of Ron and Willie and they are always so happy to serve and help. They are never idle - always cleaning and looking for ways to serve the guests! We were just traveling through for the night but the hotel offered everything we needed in one place!

We did not have a great experience at this hotel. Initially we were placed on the lower level, the smell of chlorine from the pool was overwhelming, the room also felt and smelled of damp. They changed the room without an issue and were placed on the 5th floor. The sofa bed was a single instead of a double but the worst thing was the noise. There was some sort of club that was pumping out bass until at least 11pm, it might have gone on longer but that's when I finally fell asleep with my iPod playing to try to drown out the noise. The bedding in this room also felt damp but we were all so tired we just laid down anyway. I'll be skipping staying at courtyard Marriotts in the near future. read more

Old Courtyard that has been updated to somewhat newer. Has a Bistro but the rooms are still old style. Had a whirlpool tub beside the bed, not in the bathroom. Heater was old wall unit that was loud. Staff was nice. I am going to try the Residences Inn a few more miles to the east next time. read more

What a great property. Although a bit dated, the staff here is amazing! I worked with Marissa Scott to secure a meeting space and she was professional, prompt, accommodating, and genuine. I trusted everything she told me and knew I was in good hands. The care she showed to me during my entire stay was welcomed surprise given today's service climate. I also received amazing service from Amber at the front desk. She greeted me on a very busy morning with "You look amazing! Where are you off to?" And that filled my day with joy. If all hotels could lose the corporate stuffiness and just provide service...real, genuine, down to earth service, travelers would sleep better. Kudos to the entire staff at this property. I was at this hotel for a week and had a very bad experience. - The Internet sucks big time and I lost work materials that I've typed to submit via an online portal and had to stay up at night and retype the whole thing again - TV goes blank almost all the time - Coffee is nastyand it tastes horrible - no bottle water, coffee cups without lids in the room - Housekeeping does not replace stuff that clients use such as glasses You will be better off at a Hilton Gardens, Sheraton, or other hotels with the same rates. I haven't had a frustrating and unfortunate experience with other hotels like this one. read more

It's Marriott, so a nice place, clean and the staff is always helpful. I gave it a 4 star because the TV in the room did not work and the phone also did not work. The TV was a quick fix by the staff and the phone had to be fixed by maintenance. We were offered another room but we did not need it since we all had cell phones. read more

It's a nice place. We stopped here on our way to Williamsburg. The staff was friendly. We had a room next to the indoor pool so there was a strong odor of chlorine on our floor. There was also a strong odor of carpet cleaner when we walked into the room but It was bearable. You can buy breakfast and there is a Starbucks in the lobby. read more
