I will review my experience but offer caveats for future visits. The location seemed great - at the edge of Rome's downtown business district. They also have an on-site restaurant and bar (though they did not include breakfast with the booking). The architecture was interesting also - built into what appears to be an old brick warehouse along the Oostanaula River. We arrived a bit after 3 p.m. on a Friday. We stopped outside the entrance, which was blocked by construction equipment. I entered as directed by signage via a side door. When I entered the atrium, it became apparent that the entire hotel was undergoing a major interior renovation. I checked in and the lady on duty noted the work. She also mentioned that it was listed on the hotel's website. I booked via a 3rd party app, so I had no idea this was ongoing. If I'd known, I definitely would have booked elsewhere. I checked later and, to the hotel's credit, there was a muted banner on the home page noting the construction and associated restaurant closure for the duration. This wasn't the hotel's fault or my fault, but it detracted from the experience. The hotel upgraded us to a suite (probably because of the construction), which was nice - it had lots of space and a full-sized refrigerator. We got to our room and tried to relax. My wife opted for a nap, and did manage to fall asleep despite the ongoing construction noise (that ended between 5 - 5:30 p.m., even on weekends). We were able to easily walk to Broad Street (about a half-block away) which appears to be the main business district. There are a lot of restaurants and some bars there, in addition to other shops. There was a short heat wave that weekend (above 95 both days) so it wasn't that conducive to wandering. That is not the fault of the hotel, though. At night, the room was good. We faced the street (US 27) which was noisy. However, this didn't impact our sleep much. They could probably use another pane in the windows for sound abatement. If I booked again, I'd request a room on the opposite side. The floors were odd, though. The carpet seemed uneven, like the wood underneath was a bit wavy. It made noise when you walked on it and seemed to slope a bit. The restaurant was closed for 2+ months, so we drove to breakfast about 5 minutes away. It wasn't a big deal. There didn't seem to be any places offering a 'full breakfast' within walking distance, though. Another amenity which we made use of was the walking path adjacent to the river. This runs right by the hotel and extends for more than a mile in at least one direction. Parking was in an adjacent lot and parking deck, and cost $11 / day. It was fairly convenient, after registering on a separate app. Overall, I'm rating our experience as a 2 out of 5. However, I'm willing to believe that if you stayed here under normal circumstances, it would probably be more like a 4 out of 5.

My family was there for the Tennis tournament. We reserved a double queen room on May 15th. We were notified by email from the tennis tournament director on May 16th that the hotel was still honoring the tennis tournament rate of $169 a night. Not only did the general manager, Tanisha, refuse to change our rate, she modified our reservations to a standard king room without notification or consent. When we expressed disappointment, she then decided to move us to a King suite with a sofa bed. When I asked to be compensated with a discount, she authorized the tennis tournament rate for the night. When I told her the tennis rate was what we were supposed to pay anyway, Tanisha authorized a $20 discount just for the night but said we would still pay the full $233 the next night once we were moved into the double queen room. After I learned another guest did not get the room he reserved as well, I addressed Tanisha. I approached her with a smile and calm tone, but she responded in defense and boldly stated to my face that she was the person who modified my reservation without notifying us and stated she would not give us the tournament rate for both nights because my husband reserved the rooms for $233 a night. I explained to her that my husband talked to a front desk clerk after reserving the rooms on your website and told her we were supposed to get the Tennis rate. She told my husband the computer wouldn't let her change it, so my husband decided he would speak with a manager once we arrived so that the price could be adjusted. When I explained this to Tanisha, she did not care and still refused to adjust the price of our rooms. I then told Tanisha I spoke to another guest who had the same problem as me and told her I believe they had given my family the room intended for him, and she became really angry! She told me she knew I spoke with another guest because she saw it on the camera!! I do not know why she was watching me, and another guest talk on the camera, but that made me very suspicious of the other clerks because when I spoke to that guest, I had just overheard him telling front desk associates his room was not what he booked. Tanisha had not even gotten to work at that time. for her to see it on camera, tells me they had to tell her about me and another guest talking about our concerns. What is that for Tanisha to go watch on camera?! Tanisha was flat out MEAN, nasty, rude, discourteous, and lacked general compassion and humility. She made the decision to modify my room without so much as a phone call to give us a chance to find another hotel to stay at, but I was treated as if I was doing something wrong just for asking to be fairly compensated for the inconvenience. What's worse, Tanisha didn't bother to take the $20 off the price of my room for the first night as she said she would. I assume our confrontation made her change her mind, so she lacks integrity on top of all else. My family should have been charged the Tennis rate of $169 a night, but instead we paid $169 for one night. Tanisha disguised the rate we were already supposed to be charged as a courteous discount for the inconvenience of switching our room without our knowledge and I do not believe that is true compensation. She was also very nasty to Jeff, the other guest whose reservations were not what he expected. Jeff is willing to share his experience as well. I WILL reach out to corporate about Tanisha because I do not believe she should be the face representing Fairfield Inn. I love Marriott hotels and have never had an issue with them in my life until now.

Light sleepers beware. If you are lucky enough to get a room on the opposite side (city view), I am sure it would be a very nice stay. Based on my experience, I would recommend an even # room. I wish the app would show the hotel orientation when you are doing the online check-in and selecting your room. It would be helpful at other Hilton properties as well. The hotel is situated not far from an "old downtown" type district with restaurants and some boutique style shops. Not walking distance but just a few minutes drive. Breakfast is the typical basic waffles, eggs, sausage (or other protein) with pastries, yogurt and cereal options. It's ok but nothing special. I miss when it was more common to find some regional items specific to certain areas and the more unique items like bagel toppers and omelettes that used to be more common. If in the area, I would stay here again but make sure to select an even # room next time.

In checkout, when mentioned to the staff about the inconveniences, the hey blamed Travelocity for the room selection; said it was "an assessable" type room booking. In addition, they were only apologetic about the ruined pants. Told me, if I had booked directly with the hotel...and that I should contact Travelocity with my complaints.

For breakfast, there is one employee getting the food for you like a concession stand, so it minimizes risk of getting COVID. However, there were a couple things that just lowered my Yelp rating. I noticed that one bedside lamp was not working. It was because there was no lightbulb in there. Additionally, the shower curtain was missing. Thankfully, guest services was quick to bring one up. There are a couple of ladybugs around the room, but they did have a warning flyer in the elevator. Overall, nice stay!

Complimentary breakfast includes cinnamon rolls, pancakes, bacon eggs, yogurt etc..... Fresh towels and beds made daily. Great staff, very nice, even the other guests were cool. My only concern was the pool..... A couple co workers and I wanted to take a dip and was unable to do so. I'm hopeful it will be up and ready on our next visit.

Gym weight equipment was essentially non-functional as all thepoarts had loose bolts and pulley/cable links broken. Barnsley has started to become a dump. I'd bet Private Equity now owns some or all of it and has pulled their usual "strip away expenses and maintenance and no one will notice", as decided by a 24 year old finance major. They noticed that the elevator inspection certificate was expired, so my son took a photo and showed it to the front desk, politely suggesting that maintenance should be scheduled. Instead of addressing the safety concern, the front desk clerk reacted with an unreasonable attitude. She called the police, falsely accusing the boys of harassment, and had them removed from the hotel around 1 a.m.--even though they were supposed to stay two more nights. We spoke with the manager, Patrick Van Der Horn, the next day. He claimed that the boys were kicked out because they had "harassed" the front desk clerk. I explained that she was using the word "harassment" unfairly simply because she is a woman, not because the boys did anything wrong. I have video footage of their conversation with the front desk and photos showing the expired elevator inspection. Even the police believed the boys did nothing wrong, but they said they couldn't intervene because she had made a harassment accusation. This is completely unacceptable. Your hotel failed to maintain a safe environment and treated guests with disrespect. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel, and if possible, I would rate it zero stars.
