The owners are kindly California transplants, hence the truck's name, and the food is unlike much of what you can get around here. While the menu features flatbreads and quesadillas/burritos/tacos, you can also find fried artichoke hearts and cucumber borscht. The artichoke hearts are reliably tasty and make for a healthier and tangier alternative to many other fried apps. The Bussin (loaded spicy shrimp tacos) is a recurring favorite as well. During a recent visit, however, my wife and I decided to change things up a bit and went with a steak quesadilla and a steak and cheese wrap, respectively. Both boasted tender asada. While the former came with a delicious homemade salsa, the latter made for a refreshingly crisp bite thanks to the purple cabbage and avocado. Were it merely a taco truck, West Coast Wanderer would face stiff competition around these parts. However, the combination of unique offerings, fast and friendly service, and consistently good execution allows it to retain a loyal following.

Bison, elk, and antelope were choices on the menu. I had to try the antelope. The owner said that antelope isn't gamey at all the way elk and venison can be. He was correct. This tasted like a very lean burger. It had nice flavor with the chipotle aioli, bacon, cheese and lettuce. Everything here is organic. The owner is concerned about procuring quality meats for his business. He is all too familiar with chemicals, steroids and antibiotics that go into farmed animals because he grew up on a farm. I'm glad that he is finding a market for his unique meat burgers. I certainly am a fan now!

The well balanced condiments on the Hot Dog all the way complimented the meaty dog and still emerged on their own right (bold onions & yellow mustard, sweet slaw, and a seasoned zingy chili). Every single slice of potato in our order of Homemade Chips was golden brown and crisp. The sweet Onion Rings had a wonderful crunch, and their potato wedges are on my radar for next time. When we saw the Double Bacon Cheeseburger, our jaws dropped which was actually a good thing because I don't think this gargantuan burger would have fit into our mouths otherwise. So much bacon! I'm not complaining. That was a happy chant Jerry and I kept saying over and over as we ate our lunch. The burgers were moist and juicy on the inside with a good char on the outside from the flat top grill.
