    Weekend menu

Cute spot. Off the weekend menu, I got the pancake deal which includes fresh juice, hot beverage (coffee), and sweet pancakes -- all for 16€. The pancake toppings are seasonal; mine included yellow peach roasted with thyme, whipped cream and almonds. All I can say is YUM! I was starving from a jam packed morning of activities, and this hit the spot. I'd be happy to return and try other items.

Coutume has that bright, airy, hipster yet warm and cozy feel of a few San Francisco coffee shops I love, and it was the perfect place to start off my first morning back in Paris. The coffee was downright delicious, rich, and strong...the way coffee should always be! Oui oui j'adore les Flat Whites! I ordered the Eggs Benedict Vegetarian, and it was perfection! Lots of spinach, fluffy eggs, Hollandaise sauce that wasn't too heavy, and all that goodness was sitting on top of two yummy pancakes. Who woulda thunk?! It was so much better than English muffins, or whatever Eggs Benedicts are usually made with (I don't typically order them because of this thing I have against runny egg yolks, but this time I'm so glad I took a chance!). I love how they serve up the water in chemistry lab glassware - was it a flask or a beaker? :) The baristas were really nice, even when I attempted to order in my broken French and I'm sure butchered the sentence. They just smiled and repeated back my order in English. I need to work on my Français... :)

This is a nice place. The listing needs to be updated though. NO laptops aloud! The coffee is good.

Great brunch spot. This place is little on the American side but little enough to still make you feel like you're eating European. Their pancakes are a must. The cream they used are perfect together and not too sweet. The veal carpaccio was different but very good! We also tried their burrata and it was rich and creamy. I was spectacle about the peaches with it but surprisingly it was good together. We also ordered their basic eggs and bacon which was a good addition to our brunch to share. The service is a little on the very slow slide.

Toast and soup of the day

A great place for a ladies' lunch, but the service was very slow despite it being late for the lunch hour. The three of us had the 15€ menu formula, which consisted of the day's soup, the toast of the day, and then a coffee (either with the meal or after it). While we waited for each course, we topped up our water glasses from the Erlenmeyer flask pitcher. A nice touch, but the pitcher was small for three, and our waiter kept forgetting to refill it, after he'd promise to "be right back" with a full flask. Our plates arrived staggered, and I'm not talking about between the courses. We waited a full five minutes for the third soup to be brought to our table, and a full ten minutes for the third coffee. The soup was onion and zucchini with a trace of truffle oil. It was nourishing yet light, and not too hot in temperature: perfect for a spring day. I was excited for the toast du jour, which was burrata and veggies, but when it arrived I was a little disappointed. The bread had excellent flavor by itself. It was extremely buttery and garlicky (did they rub it in garlic before placing it in the oven?), but difficult to cut with the dull knives. The burrata was amazing too, but the other toppings weren't in sync. There were green beans, strawberries, snow peas, broccoli, lightly sautéed onion and hazelnuts... I wanted to like it, but something about the onion-strawberry-hazelnut mix didn't work. We each ordered a latte to polish off the meal and to extend our lunch hour. I can't complain about this hug in a mug. Beautifully brewed, I wanted to devour the cup's contents all at once, but it was made for savoring. Come for coffee and maybe a dessert, but grab lunch somewhere else.

Such a cute, trendy, and dare I say "hipster" little spot for breakfast! I'd give this place a 3 for food, but its vibe/atmosphere/service bumps it up to a 4. I had eggs/toast/avocado, which was pretty good, although the avocado was not quite ripe yet. My husband had the yogurt bowl, which was very pretty, but a little too tart overall for me. I also had a chai latte, which was pretty bland and tasted mostly like warm milk, but my husband's coffee was pretty good. Overall, a nice way to start off our day, although the food was just okay. :)

Amazing coffee for those who appreciate brighter blends and single origin Espresso. The food here was... interesting. Not bad per se but wasn't quite to me or my friends taste. The flavors of the tart did work better than anticipated but it still bewildered us. Atmosphere is great, it's relatively spacious considering Paris coffee shops and is very tourist friendly if your french isn't great.

Food quality, portion, cleanliness and most importantly service was phenomenal. Greg was a cool dude, welcoming. I would definitely come back and recommend this place to friends & family.

Amazing brunch in Paris awaited us at Coutume. As we woke to our first morning in the City, we knew this was the place we wanted to hit Seating at the counter was available - the place was PACKED! Loved the old chemistry sets, and lab tables, the menus in the shape of benzene rings.....reminded me of my inner chemistry geek & all those days in Chem Lab So many great choices - it was hard to reach a final decision......but in the end, it was pancakes for me with pears and hazelnuts - what I thought was a small portion ended up being more than filling - I couldn't finish it all which is saying something for me! The Mr absolutely loved his pancake-eggs benedict & the hollandaise sauce was nicely tart & creamy Lattes were great - we had 1 while we were having breakfast & ordered 2 more to take away with us. We tried to get an extra shot added to our original lattes but the nice waiter advised us against that as it would have thrown off the milk to coffee ratio & he was right! These were perfect Thanks for the lovely welcome to Paris & we can't wait to come back!

I was visiting Paris with my Mom and Sister in May 2012. After a few less than impressive (but still $$$) meals, I decided to turn to Yelp for ideas! After a few days I was getting desparate for an excellent coffee. We had come across plenty of good coffee in Paris, but it was not too common to find great or excellent coffees. I saw some good reviews for the coffee at Coutume, so I planned the route from our apartment rental and guided my mom and sis there for breakfast. The cafe was full when we arrived, but we only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. The person beside us recommended we try a "flat white" as an alternative to a cappucino. I've never tried one before, but now I'm going to order it at the coffee shops at home! It was very smooth. I had the breakfast burrito, it was divine! The wrap was some sort of crepe / tortilla hybrid? It seemed home made. The salsa was so good, but wish I asked for picante. The homefries on my sisters plate were cute and tasty; served in a cylinder shaped stack with creme fresh and a sweet and spicy jelly. They also have free wifi for all you tourists out there!

Eggs Benedict (not an eggs Benedict): poached eggs, mushroom, and pen on top of pancakes with a side of guac for 13.5€

Let's be frank: The coffee here is AMAZING. The wifi is reliable. They are open on Sundays until 7pm. But there are things that bring this place way down and I can say this because I've been here many times. When you come in and you want to eat in, you need to find a table. Surprisingly easy to do considering I've never had to wait. But once you get your table, you have to either jump, dance, or wave your arms up in the air to get anyone's attention. Seriously? Then they come and sometimes they don't give you a menu and tell you to look up at the tiny blackboard on the wall but sometimes they give you a menu. lol what? Their pastries range from 2.5 to 4.5 euros. I've tried their cookie, cheesecake, and carrot cake. I would highly recommend the cookie and cheesecake. The cheesecake is creamy and not sweet and goes lovely with the coffee. The carrot cake was horrible. The frosting to cake ratio was just pathetic and the cake was dry. For good carrot cake, walk over the Le Bon Marche and go to the Rose Bakery. Sometimes they will bring you a bottle of water and sometimes they won't. There just is no rhyme or reason to any of this--it's just whatever the server feels like doing. The food is weird. I ordered the "egg's benedict" for 10.5 euros and chose to get mushroom and parmesan as my topping. i paid 3 extra euros to get a side of guacamole. The guacamole was amazing but the portion was SO SMALL. The poached eggs came on top of two thick pancakes. lol k what? Okay I can deal with this. But there was no sauce. Isn't eggs benedict about the hollandaise sauce?!?! The whole dish felt weridly thrown together. My food and pastries came way before my coffee so once I had to ask for my coffee. Like isn't this a COFFEE SHOP? So their coffee is good but their service is sloppy and their food is average at best. But surprise! Their fresh squeezed juices for 4 euros is wonderful. They come in a tall glass and is served cold! To pay, go up to the front counter. I've had to awkwardly stand there and wait many times before the girl decides to look up and take my money.

    Eggs Benedict with smoked trout
    DineoutGal A.

This place has a North American feel to the coffee shop - like most third wave independent coffee shops we see at home. It's a busy cafe that serves up coffee and cappuccinos as well as a small menu of breakfast items. Cappuccino is 4.20 euros, mocha is 5 euros. Probably one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had. It was so flavourful and smooth that I didn't even add even a smidgen of sugar (which I sometimes do). They also serve eggs Benedict with smoked trout served on top of two mascarpone pancakes for 9.50 euros. One berry and mascarpone pancake is 3.50 euro - it's a denser pancake but quite delicious with the berries and butter. Service is friendly and our server spoke English.

this cheesecake might be the best ive ever had

I would just go back for this delightfully warm concoction in the morning. The service to go along with this made this experience more pleasant as it seems most of the employees were filipinos. They were quick to receive you and leave you beyond satisfied. The shop exudes the classic parisian aesthetic that most people would romanticize and I am glad I experienced it. I came here on my first visit to France with my sister and brother-in-law. I had just finished my time at the Eiffel tower and walked over to this restaurant for a drink and a snack. We, of course, ordered the hot chocolate topped with cream. It was incredibly rich, which was the draw. It was required that we each ordered our own teapot, which provided about two and a half cups of hot chocolate. This was a bit excessive, as the drink was heavy and I could only stomach a cup. I did wish the restaurant allowed us to split the pot amongst our table. Nonetheless, I enjoy dining at Carette and returned on my second Paris trip with my husband. Anyone visiting for the first time should try their thick hot chocolate at least once.
