The line to wait to be seated wasn't very long. I stood for around 30-40 minutes and as a party of six and at a tourist hot spot I feel like that is very reasonable. They are constantly pulling small parties (1-4) out of line to seat them quicker depending on the space available. Although while washing my hands inside one of the waitresses did come beside me and basically shoved me out of my way to place a serving tray on the sink in front of me??? First time coming to Paris, so of course I wanted to try the infamous Carette! My friend and I decided to try and go on a Sunday around 10:30-11am. I was very worried about the lime being extremely long due to the time we came at. But when we arrived we were told it would be about a 30 minute wait. The service does a great job managing the line and trying to pull groups out of line to fit specific spots available if they can. The manager asked if there were any groups of three available and luckily we were able to get a table quicker than we thought! We were seated outside at a very small table. The tables are very close together and it is extremely hard to move around the chairs, etc. the interior is a little less tight, but nonetheless it is still a little chaotic to go about. Service was good and our food came out within about 10-15 minutes of ordering. I loved the classic Parisian atmosphere and really enjoyed being outside. We ended up ordering their famous hot chocolate and creme, the strawberries & creme, coffees, and a croissant. The prices here are a little steep considering what you are getting. But I definitely think it's an experience and the price reflects that. The hot chocolate was extremely rich and luscious--like nothing I've had before. It was almost reminiscent is drinking straight chocolate sauce. The fresh creme that accompanied it was delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried one of my friends strawberries and thought they were extremely fresh, but not necessarily worth the price. Cappuccino was pretty standard, but I enjoyed it. So we never made it to Angelina's but this was the number two hot chocolate spot in Paris. It did not disappoint at all. We were greeted and we're still full from dinner and told them we would be back, and the manager remembered us and took us right away to a seat inside asked us where we were from and extremely kind. The gentleman was originally from Ireland so he spoke perfect English as well as fluent French of course. For starters, the hot chocolate is a whole presentation. It is not only a pretty rich chocolate color, it's also delicious but very rich. The huge whipped cream dollop for the table was so pretty, of course we had to snap away pictures for our social media before we took our first sips. The hot chocolate was perfect for the cold rainy weather, but very decadent. Make sure you ask for a glass of tap water to wash down the richness. It will cost you about 12.5 euros but it will give you 3 or 4 cups per hot chocolate, which is more than enough. The quiche was really good as well. Very moist and flavorful. It was light enough for a brunch but also a great balance to the rich hot chocolate. The only thing I wished for was that the bottom crust would've been more cooked instead of it being soggy. Also; so many people dressed in berets getting professional photography at this place, I felt a little silly. But then you see that then place was founded in 1927. It's an institution. Their prices for the cakes are still market rate. And it felt like a good place to be. If you're gonna be jet lagged, might as well use it to your advantage and get one of the best spots on the terrace but just under the awning so you get the heat lamps. *** I got the brunch because I wanted eggs with my varieties of bread. It was 40 euro and I'm pretty sure it could be split between two people if you wanted.
