I heard great things about this place so was super excited to try it. The food is mid-to-mediocre and the service was rubbish! Feels very chain pub.

We got deserts and they were the best thing about it.. the kids loved the mountains of ice cream and I really liked the cookie dough cheesecake, it was the only saving grace really.. if you sign up for the app then you get 20% off your food bill, so I signed up for the app and got the email confirmation but we were told we couldn't get the 20% off as the app wasn't working properly.. and even though they'd missed things off our order and we'd had to send stakes back, also our bill was well in excess of £200.. we though the least they could do is honour their deal of 20% off. I put a picture of my pit burger on here.. incidentally the fries were stone cold and the burger tasted bland, the piece of brisket on the top tasted smokey though but the tiny bit of mac and cheese on top of the brisket also was bland.

I stay and eat there a lot so for a change decided to look for a quiet pub with good food. This one is high above Burley in Wharfedale on the 'side' of Ilkley Moor, and I went in for dinner at about 6.30. Not too many people in there, just three or four couples. The pub consists of a main bar, a smaller 'snug' set up as dining tables, and a larger restaurant room (not open this evening, maybe only used at weekends). I ate in the snug and chatted to a couple at an adjoining table. But first things first ! Taylors Landlord Bitter !! This beer has quite justifiably won many awards over many years, and is always worth seeking out. But of course I am unashamedly biased , as I was brought up in the nearby town of Keighley, and the back of our house was only 2-300 yds away from Taylor's brewery wall. There was also Tetleys and another bitter available on draught. The menu consisted of a good choice of starters, mains , and desserts. Most of it was of the wholesome rustic pub variety, thought there were some blackboards of specials covered up, maybe these are available at the weekend. Anyway dining alone and not wanting to stay there too long, I enjoyed creamy garlic mushrooms as a starter followed by Lambs Liver and Onions, served on good mash with plenty of gravy , and side vegetables. It was really delicious. This may have been my first visit there, but certainly not the last. Just one black mark, Mrs Landlord seemed to be on her own when I first walked in, and had to get food from kitchen to serve another couple , so it was a good 5 or 6 mins before I could order a pint !

Very friendly staff greeted us as we entered and the dining room was busy which was a good sign given that it is under new ownership for just a year or so now. We ate in the newer section of the pub which had sky lights and was very light with a great view over the valley. The menu seemed quite simple and to focus on local type dishes and at first glance, I thought the menu looked a little pricey for lunches and so decided on a sandwich (I think it was £6) while many of the dishes were up in the £8-10 range). When the sandwiches came, they came with a small salad of very fresh greens which was the first surprise. Then the second surprise came in the form of a pickle plate containing a selection of beetroot, pickled onions (small (so not too strong in flavour), but numerous), pickled cabbage and a pickle/chutney all of which we were told were made on site. Honestly, I'd read it on the menu and not really given it any thought, but the presentation of the pickle plate was great and their flavours were sublime. For me the pickle tray was the star of the meal and tied the local/home-style together perfectly. The sandwiches were very tasty and combined with the salad and pickles offered fantastic value for money. The sandwich (coronation chicken), wasn't too overly spiced and the bread was thick cut and very tasty. Others in my party were equally impressed. My only regret, given the flavour and quality of the pickled onions and pickle/chutney, I should have got the cheese sandwich as I bet combined, the three elements would be amazing! At this point I'm looking forward to going back and will be trying some of the more expensive dishes on the strength of my experience here. If all their dishes are made with the same quality of ingredients and given the same attention, then I'm sure it won't be long before this becomes a very well known local spot.

This is a cracking pub. It's nicely done out and has a very warm friendly atmosphere. It's laid back and chilled all the way. Now onto the important bit and the drinks. Well I love it. Simple as that. The wine list has some excellent tipples on and it isn't ridiculously expensive either. The ale is finely kept and there is a nice selection as well. My only problem is deciding my beverage of choice. As for the food, it's real served pub grub of the highest order. This place deserves a good old pat on the back. They are also super relaxed about dogs and walkers too, which is good to know if you want a walking stop off point to refuel.

Just down the A65 in Ilkley, this food-focused walkers' haunt is one of the best. With low lighting, dark wood and cosy seating to compliment the all-important open fire, this is prime date territory, and the restaurant-quality food and extensive wine list (plus a good soft drink selection for the driver) will ensure an evening to remember. On my visit I enjoyed a spinach, squash and goat's cheese lasagne - a deliciously fresh-tasting use of seasonal, local produce - and a melt-in-the-mouth cheeseboard accompanied by a tart quince jelly. I can heartily recommend both. Although food is clearly the main event here, a decent selection of house and guest ales means its also worth just popping in for a drink, and with the pub's position just five minutes from the centre of Ilkley, a quaint, up-market spa town, and at the start of the Dales Way, there are plenty of opportunities to walk off any excesses.
