What a surprise !!! It is way out of my way, being it is in Carson City. But I was recently in the area and had to check out a wine special that Paul P told me about. It's a small shop. It carries wine, beer, the usual spirits, and some great finds. Cowboy is a simple layout, and well marked. Making it easy to find what you are looking for. If you still can't find it, the staff will help. Aisles are clean. The specials are well marked. Paul was telling me about a Belle Glos Pinot Noir called Clark & Telephone. It is usually $57, but Cowboy had an incredible deal on it - $26. I now regret not buying the last two I left on the shelf. While in that aisle I found Red Schooner Voyage 6 for $26. I paid $42 for it recently at Whispering Vines. The staff that night knew all about the two wines and the vineyards they were from. I really appreciated her knowledge. While there I also perused the Whiskey section- thanks to Yelp's Whiskey Hunt, I now find myself searching for some of last year's great discoveries. If you're going to be in Carson always stop in and check for deals on any adult beverages. Also make sure you sign up for their rewards program. Right ?!? Rewards for partaking in fabulous spirits and good prices. I'll take that. Parking lot is easy to get in and out of. Signage also pretty easy to see. The employees saved my day. I rolled up at 9:10pm thinking they closed at 10pm. Staff were locking the door. I'm not the most persuasive type but they proceeded to allow me inside to get what I needed, 6 cases of Rainier. Why you ask?! Because I live in Santa Cruz, CA and they do not sell my favorite $h!t beer in CA. I went to the store about 8pm NYE. The cashier and another female were right in front of the door and I asked if they were closed - one said no. I was then asked what I was needing, and I told her "stuff for daquiris." I went to where the premade stuff was and started looking. She made a comment of "yes premades" or whatever while following me. I grabbed what I wanted and named another item I needed. While getting it, she asked if I was driving. I told her I was going straight home. This was repeated three times, and the third time I mentioned I lived less than 10 minutes away. While at the register, she made the comment of hoping I lived close by. I again mentioned living 10 minutes away. IDK if she was tired or what but I was stone cold sober and don't appreciate the third degree at 8pm on NYE. I've been to Cowboys multiple times and NEVER had this type of questioning. Maybe she was trying to come off as caring/mother hen but way overgauged? All I know is I felt shamed for buying booze on NYE. read more

It's minutes before they close but hours says 9pm. Upon arrival I notice a lady to my left in her green jeep backing out. I get out of car and to my surprise it's closed. So I'm a bit ticked, I work in a local restaurant and I've been stuck at works for many hours with not a single guest but we have set hours and out guests expect us to stay open for those posted hours. As she's backing out I mention she closes early. She responds but the past few hours I had no one. I tell her I been there done that and consistency will only build your business. The sign on the door says masks are required - those who cannot wear a mask will be waited on curbside. However, the clerk on duty was not wearing a mask, nor were the two customers she was helping. After they left the store, I approached the counter to make my purchase and asked her why she wasn't wearing a mask. She said it was hot, and did I have a problem with that? I said, yes, I did and she told me I did not have to shop there. So I didn't buy my wine and I won't be returning. Too bad. During a two night visit in Carson City last fall, we went to Cowboys two, maybe three times to get some nice wine and by golly, they had it covered. The name of the shop belies the sophistication of the selection. The central (it seemed to me) location is great. The only staff we met knew her wines.
