took my sister to ER since she had been previously been diagnosed with catatonia to try to get a psychiatric evaluation. She had all the standard tests for strole, brain bleed, etc. at her hospitals, freeman and mercy but they have no psych unit. Took printouts of all her recent previous tests. Basically after 10 hours all they did was reproduce all those tests and charge her. She even got an $800 charge out of her network from a doctor out of New Jersey! After all this a nurse comes in and says" she doesn't qualify for our psych unit", no explanation or anything! To put it in perspective when they weighted her the weight was in kilograms. So of course we asked what that was in pounds. The nurse looked at us and said" I don't know, do you want me to get the book and look it up?" That was the last we saw of her. Just some advice. If you're looking for patient concern and help with a severe issue better go somewhere else! read more

Tried to establish care. Was told I couldn't meet the Dr on my first visit, that I had to submit tests that would not be explained. The woman scoffed and laughed when I asked what tests and asked "why do you want to know" I asked if no other patient ever asked why or what tests were going to be ran. I was told they had a strict no visitor policy so I would be separated From my support system with no knowledge of what or whom would be running tests on me and that it would be $800 a visit until Medicaid kicked in. So instead of trying to schedule Me weeks out they scheduled me quickly to collect. Dr Rice was highly recommended but couldn't get past the gestapo to even meet him and see if he was a good fit. Took my dad in for a UTI, left with him on hospice because they failed to take his dentures out before putting a bipap on him. They had put him in mittens and put a sitter in the room with him, an actual sitter...not one of the computers. She sat with him and watched him kick as he was being deprived of oxygen. He developed hypoxia and was put on a ventilator when I came in and found him the next morning. He never recovered. He was 65. Dont take your loved ones to this hospital!!! read more

My physical therapist Barry Martin at the Cox Therapy West clinic was absolutely amazing. He has been with Cox for many years. I was being seen for rotator cuff and frozen shoulder issues. He was knowledgeable, patient, kind, caring, and would even called to check on me. I had a lot of delays with insurance approving visits which was frustrating because I'd have to stop therapy and wait on them but he would always stay on top of it and follow up with me so that I would know that I could resume therapy. Cox Breast Health in Springfield, MO, charged me double for a mammogram when I tried to use insurance and then when insurance didn't cover anything they want me to pay double the amount. They won't call me back, I have called multiple times and asked billing to call me back to discuss this and no one will call back and I was just disconnected when I tried to talk to billing right now. They charged me double what I was paying when I tried to use insurance. When I was a self-pay a mammogram was just under $400 and they billed me 805 90. They are a joke. Insurance as a joke. A STORY OF A COMPANY GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND Brief history, I (the husband am 74 years old, only one leg, and in a wheelchair) ( the Wife) is 75 years old, very bad balance, and always uses a walker. On 12-21-22 while headed to the bathroom (the wife) twisted her knee and right ankle and landed on the floor. We managed to get her up after 15 minutes. We were able to get her into bed OK. On 12-22-22 at 10 AM ( the wife) woke up in lots of pain and asked to go to the ER. (I the husband ) called 911, they arrived within minutes, got her into the ambulance,and drove to Cox South ER. ( I the husband ) arrived 15 minutes later, to find she was already in a room but was all checked in, seen by a Dr. and the x-rays were ordered. The Dr. informed us (the wife ) had a badly sprained ankle and right knee, and to go home and rest both. The nurse asked if we could get her into the house by yourself, I said I was unsure. She said one minute then came back in and said that some of the ambulance management crew Russell Scanlan were helping out and would follow us home and get ( the wife ) inside the house for us. The ambulance management crew helped load both of us into our car and followed us to our house 2 miles away, then helped get (the wife ) into bed. (the wife ) took a nap and apron-waking a few hours later got up to use the bathroom, using the walker to assassinate. When going back to bed her right knee and ankle gave out and she slid to the floor again, I (the husband ) cannot pick her up, so I called 911 again, Cox ambulance showed up within minutes and picked her up and got her into bed. 12-22-22 was one of the worst weather days for many years here in Springfield, -10 wind chill factor with 3 "of snow. Yet the Cox ER department and Cox Ambulance department and Management took fantastic care of 2 elderly people, they all deserve a 5 star rating and 5 star THANK YOU. Copay was way more than expected. Lady literally barged in in the MIDDLE of my treatment to ask for my credit card. None of the doctors communicated on any type of treatment they were giving me and they took 3 vials of my blood with no explanation and I've received no result or reason since. I had a full on meltdown in this place because I couldn't find the help button and the staff will pretty much ignore your needs even when they do get to you. read more

You will receive the same bill for the same service multiple times over a period of months after you have paid this bill. Sometimes this bill will come singularly and sometimes mixed in with other bills from other doctors and other dates of service. I know I have paid many of the same bills more than once. I started to see bills I was sure I paid, became suspicious and then caught one of these- a bill I paid twice. I had a hell of a time getting a refund. I now make copies of the bills and the check ( only way to do it) I send. I write the reference number of the particular bill in the memo. I keep everything. I believe Cox Health needs to be investigated for deliberately confusing bills and overcharging. read more

What a relief. Came from Mercy Go urgent on battlefield. I understand they do Not have the same services. This was not the problem- the problem was the NP that is a complete Zero. I went to the Cox urgent care hospital on National Ave. in Springfield. I had been having horrible back pain and I was unable to get into a family physician. So I went to the ER because I was barely able to move. This place is by far the worst hospital I have ever been to. Instead of giving me ANYTHING to treat my pain while I was there, they sent me home and gave me a refill prescription of meds I ALREADY HAD. Clearly I had already taken several pain relievers I had to help with the pain and would not have gone to ER if they had worked. I was treated by Erik Cochran, Dr. Schmitt's physician assistant. Absolutely awful experience, especially waiting 2 and half hours to be sent home with nothing but a refill which I didn't need by the way, of what I had already had and tried. Thanks COX. I took my mother here last spring when she was sick. We arrived on a Sat. morning at 9:30, only half an hour after they opened and proceeded to wait for the next 5 and a half hours (in three different locations throughout the building) for them to tell us what my mom had been telling them she had all along; pneumonia (though they did diagnosis it as double walking). The trip to the doc's was definitely a needed one no arguement there, but the speed at which the staff worked was definitely NON-urgent. This is not an Urgent Care, it is an Emergency Room. You walk into an office designated an "Urgent Care," but if you need treatment for something they walk you through through some internal hallways to the ER without explicitly telling you where you're going. Then a doctor may walk in there, say some things that will technically count as the minimum needed to have consulted him, and then leave. Then you get Emergency Room charges, and if you ask why the response their billing department gives you is "there is a sign on the door," where some fine print presumably explains that the Urgent Care may lead you to the ER down the hall. read more

They charge ER prices even though it's an urgent care clinic. I went in for severe stomach cramps that were persistent for over two weeks and were so bad I could barely walk. When I got there they wanted to do a urine test which they said would be no more than $35. Then they wanted a blood test which they said would be $178. Then they said my copay would be $100. I was fine with all of this. I got a bill for over $2000. I even have insurance. I called them and asked why and was told that since they were connected to a hospital then they can charge more. That they only gave me an estimate while I was there. They are a fraud and they're liars. Definetly will be sure to tell others to go to Mercy instead. read more

On 2/29/2020 I had a 103 degree fever and a severe cough. It was after regular business hours, so I had to choose between the ER and Urgent Care. I thought Urgent Care might be better because it was usually faster and less expensive. When I arrived at Cox Urgent Care the nurse checked me in and took my insurance information. Nothing was disclosed to me at the time about any extra charge for a facility fee that would be added to my bill. I waited more than 3 hours to see a doctor. The nurse swabbed my nose and throat. When at last I saw the doctor, she told me I tested negative for both strains of the flu but since she didn't know why I was sick she was going to prescribe Tamiflu anyway. That entire exam and exchange with the doctor lasted about 5 minutes. I went home and took the Tamiflu. About 3 months later, I received a bill for the visit, which included an excessive charge of more than $500 labeled as a "facility fee." I immediately wrote to Cox via email to address the bill. I received no response. I then wrote a letter asking for an itemized bill. I never received one. I called and spoke to a representative in the patient services department. She told me that Cox doesn't provide itemized bills. She also said they won't respond in writing, only via phone. She told me that they were resubmitting my invoice to my insurance company because they coded it incorrectly. I asked then if it was possible I had the Coronavirus. She would not say. I feel certain that I did, in fact, have Covid-19. Which, as I understand it, means I shouldn't be billed for this appointment at all. Nevertheless, about 6 weeks later I received yet another bill for the same amount, including the undisclosed and excessive facility fee. I then wrote an email to the patient services department explaining that this amount was excessive, not disclosed to me, and completely inappropriate for the care I received. I also researched the reasonable and customary charges for an urgent care visit in my area for the services I received. I outlined my research in my email to them and explained that I would not pay such an outrageous charge. I also, again, requested an itemized invoice. I received no response. So, I called again. This time I was told that I could not get an itemized bill but would have to pay to get copies of my medical records and would have to piece together what the charges are myself. CoxHealth has numerous consumer complaints and a BBB rating of D- because of price gouging fees added to urgent care bills. CoxHealth also has a history of predatory collection practices and bullying patients into paying excessive fees far above reasonable and customary. read more

Be careful! This facility charges more. I went here for a sinus infection in April 2019. Wait was short. Took awhile to get through the process but all in all it was good service. My BILL ,however, was a shocker. Since this Urgent care is in a center with emergency and other services there was a fee of $268.38 for just the building. The physician charge was $108.39. All was reduced to $141.55 after my Medicare Insurance paid their part. (Yes, I'm over 65.) My husband, who has the exact same policy that I do, had visited the competitor's Urgent Care in this same time period. $0, ZERO, co-pay. Ask me if I'm switching care providers.... read more

I came into your location today ( COX URGENT CARE 1000 E PRIMROSE )looking to get checked up and get some antibiotics to clear up my sinus infection. Your nurse Angie S stated that I needed to do a strep and Covid test. I requested I do the strep test first and then follow with the Covid test based off those results. She stated she would have to " check with the nurse because this would extend my wait time". She comes back does the step test. Leaves. Comes back says my test was negative and that she will have to do a Covid test. Moments later the second nurse Rose, comes in says the test was positive and then Angie states that she must have entered it by mistake and that it was negative. She(Rose) asks me if I have done a Covid test before I tell her no. She laughs and states that she will be stepping out and that Angie will explain it to me. Angie explains that qtip will go up " to the back of my throat " and she will have to twist it " 10 times " she begins to do this, I tell her to stop , because it is hurting, and I am not required to continue. She continues the test. While I have told her to stop 3 different times to the point that I am raising my voice at her. She finishes the test.Then tells me I need to " stop yelling " throws the qtip in the trash and says she will go get my other nurse. I tell her to please do , so I can tell her nurse exactly what she just did. Rose comes in . Just looks at me as if she's waiting for me to start explaining what happened. Which is what I do . State that if someone tells you to stop touching them you need to do so. And especially not in return of them stating that tell them they need to" stop yelling " and then throw the qtip in the trash " she interrupts me to say " are you listening to me " which clearly just shows that she was not listening to me the entire time . We are from out of state and wish we had a facility like this back home. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful, and we had very minimal wait times. Our doctor was knowledgeable, prompt and professional, and showed genuine concern for our son. Registration and checkout was simple and easy with no paper forms. On Thanksgiving Day 2020 I went to this Urgent Care as it was the only one open in the city. I called my insurance ( out of network) and received permission to go for an injury and sought care. After I was brought to a room had my vitals et all I was told I couldn't be treated and had to go to the er. In the manner it was delivered and the fact a pca showed up with a wheelchair I was concerned this matter was much more alarming and went complied. At no point did I feel I had the option to go elsewhere nor was it suggested. I am now being billed the full amount after cox accepted a 5% discount on services which equates to $60! Based on how this transpired, I called my insurance and I have called Cox. I am not happy with either. Cox will not work with me outside of a payment plan as the claim was " billed correctly". Regardless, the efforts were predatory to keep care at Cox because they couldn't charge for the Urgent Care as they couldn't provide any care there. Cox should make a reasonable discount that is more reasonable to pay than $1186.00. I am waiting for more calls back to discuss with a patient experience team. Ridiculous. They should do the right thing and negotiate a fair cash discount as I have to pay the entire billed charges. Unless you have no other care options do not go. read more

Went to urgent care in severe pain, Nurse practitioner checked my reflexes, Dr shook my hand. And I left with 3 prescriptions, and a diagnosis that I know is incorrect! I am still in pain, and just wasted my time and copay for nothing!!!! And 2 weeks later, the doctor calls me to clear up our misunderstanding! He tries to tell me he agreed with me while I was there! That's not what happened! He also explained to me that they did everything they could at the time.... hmmm, I didn't get an X-ray or anything.... seriously. Pretty sure Urgent Care consists of a bit more than checking reflexes and suggesting ibuprofen. read more

Most horrible experience! I have been having complications from my C-section for over a year now. I went into urgent care because I was having pain & many other issues. I asked if they could do an ultrasound to find out why I was having the severe pain in my side! The doctor said exactly "this is not the place for that"! This is an urgent care how is this not the place for an ultrasound?! Two days later I started having an extreme pain in my side! I went into the ER & I had a cyst rupture & needed surgery! If they would have taken the time to do an ultrasound maybe I could have possibly avoided all this pain! I don't understand how a doctor could tell a patient "this isn't the place for that" without any other explanation. Isn't an urgent care where your suppose to find out why you're having pain & problems? Also they don't me I didn't have a UTI abut turns out I do have a kidney infection! 'Dr Lisa Reno' was extremely rude. You dont cut a patient off midsentence to basically tell them that you dont care about what they have to say and then walk out and start trashing them before you even shut the door!! Rude rude rude! Not to mention, I was in there because my back has been hurting for weeks now and today I finally had enough of being in pain. I dont Dr Reno could not be any LESS empathetic if she had tried! The way she acted made me feel like she thought I was in there for drugs and I'm fairly confident that she gave me a drug test under the pretense of a pregnancy test because I dont see how a simple pregnancy test takes almost 50 minutes to get the result... plus I HAVE AN IUD. ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE BIRTHCONTROLS AROUND AND LIKE I SAID, YOU HAVE TO HAVE SEX TO GET PREGNANT. It made me mad. Overall the worst experience ever. The triage nurse couldnt of cared less either. I know a normal person doesn't frequent a place like urgent care as often as I might which is good, but I've been back a few times since my last review so I figured it was time for an update. Last Monday i decided it would be fun to go get five stitches in my foot so it was off to see my friends at Cox again. They got me right in, had a couple people to help me through all the paperwork so we could get to the stopping the pain part, it did take quite a while once we were finished with the hole stop the bleeding part but I also know I was not the only person that was being seen. Quick note to any one wanting 5 stitches in the heel of their foot, don't do it, it's no fun. you don't even feel the stitches, but that's because they have to numb it. and it's not the needle that they use, you don't feel that part, it's the medicine IN the needle that burns, and I mean burns it a way I cant put into words. And they can't just give you one shot in one spot, they have to go all around the area, but after the ninth or tenth time the area starts to go numb so you feel it less. My Doctor and all my nurses were great as usual and took good care of me. So to any of you over there that might happen to read this, THANK YOU for continually putting me back together over the years. read more

On November 18 I managed to fall while hunting and hurt my left shoulder pretty bad. Saturday morning (the 19th) my wife and I went to Cox adult Urgent Care to have it looked at. I could not move my arm without intense pain in my shoulder. The staff got us right in, in fact I was being x-rayed within 15 minutes of walking in the door. So far so good. Eventually the Dr. stormed into the room and in less than 2 minutes told me; "You just have some muscle bruising, use ice packs and heat and take some aspirin." He was heading for the door when I told him that there was stuff popping and cracking in my shoulder. He angrily came back into the room and asked me to take my shirt off. I stood and began struggling to get my shirt off when he decided to help by grabbing my left cuff and yanking it out away from me. I can honestly say that I nearly hit him in the face for the pain he caused me. He felt around my shoulder, maintained his previous diagnosis and flew out of the room. It was a nurse that came in and offered: A) a sling, B)a prescription for a muscle relaxer and C) a note for time off work - for 2 days which meant I was fine to go back to work on Monday. I made an appointment with a real doctor for tuesday and after an MRI was shown that 3 of the 4 muscles in my rotator cuff are torn and a tendon for my bicept was broken and no longer attached. My surgery is scheduled in a few days. I'm not going to dwell on the fact that this guy jerking my arm like he did could have very well caused more damage. What I AM going to say is that neither my wife nor my 3 sons nor myself will ever step foot in Cox urgent care or pediatric urgent care for as long as we live in the springfield area. Specifically to Dr. Adams; It's very clear that you despise your patients, that you are demoralized by the reality of working in the medical profession and that in a nutshell, you hate your job. Well buddy, most of us aren't crazy about our professions but when your attitude has a chance of injuring people it's time to suck it up, and tell Daddy or whoever that you're no longer going to be a Doctor, you're going to do something you enjoy, which hopefully won't involve the public. read more
