This is a small Y embedded in the new Buena Vista High School (opened 2023). It's in the southwest corner of the building, just to the left of the main school entrance. It's best if you enter from L Street then stay to the left. They don't seem to be overrun by students, and there is dedicated parking. There are no small children running around. The intimate, welcoming environment attracts people of all shapes, sizes, colors, ages, and abilities. What this location doesn't have: CROWDS, a pool, fresh towels, kids activities, childcare, or large classes. No spinning, Tai Chi, aerobics, Tai Kwan Do, or basketball. No late evening hours. Your memberhip lets you go to other Y locations to access those things if you want them. What this location does have: weights, a few treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, semiprivate showers, Egym weight machines, and easy access to friendly staff for advice. They have a few small-group classes aimed at general health and fitness. The Egym machines are the big deal here; each machine helps you exercise a particular part of your body. The Egym system automatically adjusts each machine to fit your body and fitness level, so you don't have to carry around a clipboard or remember how to make all of the adjustments. A video screen shows you how far and how fast to move so you can exercise without hurting yourself. It's really quite easy and non-intimidating. The YMCA membership price is a little more expensive than basic memberhip at gyms like Blue Moon or Planet Fitness. But the money goes to a good cause, and you can count on them being ethical. They won't keep charging your credit card if you decide to cancel. As with any gym, I won't be posting interior photos out of respect for the other customers, but you can find photos on the Facebook page or on the Metro YMCA website.

I had been consistently working out 5-6 days a week for nearly 10 yrs... I owned a gym franchise location in town... fitness was my life. I sold the gym in 2018... and... just stopped. Stopped working out, stopped eating clean. In those 2 yrs I have started and stopped workout plans and diets... was just so hard getting back to it. In 2020... working from home really excelled the inactivity. I had a knee injury, ankles were always sore... My body was telling me it was time. Enter Core 10. I had never done a pilates workout in my life... but from the 1st class i was hooked. The instructors are top of the line... they were emailing and texting to follow up. Wanted to know my story. Really care about their members success. I love that the scheduling of the classes keeps me accountable and keep me getting up in the morning. The workouts are incredible. Its low impact... but high intensity and just killer. I am working out to failure, every workout. Its just amazing. I am hooked. Doing at least 4 workouts a week, each week. We tried baseball, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and on a whim tried parkour. He was begging for us to sign him up during the Open House. The staff is very friendly, and great with kids. We signed up for the monthly membership which got us a class per week at $30 each. He got a water bottle and a NE PK. He looks forward to coming here every week and would do it multiple times if he could. Classes are well staffed and led with a solid instructor to kid ratio with the focus on teaching the kids fundamentals, form, and technique. The kids progress through different courses while having a blast. If you have a kid that is looking for a fun activity I would highly recommend Nebraska Parkour!

Tikan Ju-Jitsu is a local dojo which holds classes at three locations (Southwest and Maple YMCA, and Lifetime Fitness). I started taken Ju-Jitsu with my stepdaughter, who ended up deciding it wasn't for her but I ended up staying. As an adult doing this for the first time, I can't say that my body was ready to fly through the air, but the sensei has always been very patient in showing things to me multiple times and is wonderful and explaining and demonstrating different moves and how they relate to real life situations and can be expanded upon based on your level. Classes are an hour long, and typically start with 10-15 minutes of stretching and warmup, followed by skill practice. A lot of time is spent reviewing basics, and then breaking into smaller groups based on experience. You learn strikes, kicks, rolls, breakfalls (how to safely fall), locks and breaks, and more. The class is heavily interactive and there isn't a lot of down time. It's great exercise and a lot of fun and If highly recommend giving it a try!
