However you can always tell a Mexican Food restaurant by their chips and salsa they were good, but my friend order the vegetable quesadilla and it was very disappointing now usually a vegetables mean (peppers onions) she got Broccoli/Stringbeans/Zucchini that threw it completely off she couldn't even enjoy it. I ordered the California Burrito it had everything but there were peas in it plus the guacamole was wrapped inside which made it weird and no sour cream. Ordered the birria taco and the paella. Started with cocktails of frozen mango margaritas and a raspberry margarita. The tacos was filled with tender stewed beef and the consimme was great for dipping. The paella was flavorful and had a fair amount of protein. I would have liked it if there was a crust on the bottom. We order the churros which came with ice cram and filled with dulce de leche. We asked for coffe and that was the only disappointment. It came out lukewarm and asked for a new pot of coffee. They then came out with the coffee we sent back but warmed up. We rejected that and asked for a new pot. It came out hotter but equally bland and insipid. Other than the color of the liquid, I would not have known I was drinking coffee. Took a sip and left it. read more

My family was in the area from out of town and decided to try it on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated right away. It's quaint and cutely decorated. The complimentary chips and dip were delicious. We shared the guacamole and it was fresh and yummy. Both of my kids had the steak quesadilla which came with refried beans and rice. I had the trio's enchiladas and my husband had the tres amigos. Everything was delicious and the meals were big enough to bring home for later. Will return if I'm in the area again! read more

I am not sure how this place is below a 4?! It was really frikkin good! To start, chips and salsa are legit; the margs were tasty; and the homemade ice tea was earthy. Yesterday my wife and I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant, Coyote Flaco. We were not disappointed. I had a Patron Marguarita and it was strong and enjoyable. For dinner my wife had her usual Chicken Fajita and loved it and the leftovers for another meal at home. I had my favorite enchiladas, one cheese two with ground beef. I requested mole sauce on all and it was delicious. We will try to return before we return to our home in Florida this Fall. After a long day performing at the Mahiawe Theatre in Great Barrington, MA I was exhausted and rolling home when I found this gem. A quick GPS search for Mexican turned up only one spot out in the middle of nowhere. As I rolled along I thought to myself "This will either be a dud or it will be amazing." The latter turned out to be the case much to my delight. Out of a modest country road where one doesn't expect to be a restaurant a fiesta of color, cool vibes and no traditional seating appeared. The staff were friendly and I was served by a full team. The menu was wide ranging and the food was delicious. The tamal was excellent. Firm and soft, nice flavorful sauce with floating cheese as a welcome garnish. The taco trio was tasty (the pork carnitas a bit on the dry side but a squeeze of lime and their excellent green salad helped). I saw happy customers all over. I regret not getting the tacos al birras (succulent braised beef with dipping jus). Perhaps next time? read more

The food is tasteless. ZERO spices used in any phase of preparation. Nary a sprig of cilantro in anything. Ordered the enchiladas trio w shrimp which was simply an awful tasteless mass of mush. The sauces; green, red, and mole tasted like overwhelming nothing. The homemade iced tea tasted like dirt, looked like dirt. The service was as disappointing as the food. Solid Mexican and Tex-Mex food, okay margaritas (but good for the price). There are plenty of good vegetarian options, which was a nice surprise. Also, the fajitas proportions are awesome -- lots of the "good stuff" filling with little cups of rice/beans/sour cream/guac, plus a pile of small flour tortillas. Good, reliable mexican cooking at a reasonable price. The service is usually good. We enjoy sitting outside, which is covered, but always avoid the picnic style benches and make sure to find seats with backs. We don't enjoy eating inside, which we find somewhat crowded. read more

I brought the family in for a birthday celebration and was seated immediately. Things started well with some very good salsa. The drinks came right away. The appetizers came out shortly afterwards and were good. I ordered my meal without guacamole because I find it disgusting. When my meal arrived it had guacamole in it and I think the steak was missing. The waiter made a new quickly. The steak was tuff. I wasn't impressed with the entrees and the feeling was shared amongst the entire family. I asked my son would you prefer this burrito or Chipotle? With no hesitation both kids replied "Chipotle". I agreed with them. The desserts were good. If the entrees were better I'd probably would have scored them 4 stars. read more

The first time I ate there 3 years ago the food and service was phenomenal. After that the food quality slipped and when I asked I was told they changed chefs. After 2 disappointing tries I stopped ordering. After a year I tried take out and it was good. Then, on e day I ordered and paid online through their website and when I got there the restaurant was closed. I had to work through that. Then I ordered again on their website and when I got there and said I was picking up they told me my food was being packed. After 5 minutes I was told the same thing. Then another 5 minutes passes and they repeated it was being packed. Another 5 minutes passed and then I was asked what I ordered. They told me that they did not have a record of my order. I had to reorder and wait after having paid and pre-ordered online. No apologies no offers of compensation. I will not be back. read more

On my last visit, I had a lovely, strong margarita on the rocks, cheese enchiladas suizas with rice and beans. Photos included:) Everything was tasty with generous portions. My kids got the kids cheese quesadilla and grilled chicken. They both liked theirs. My husband got a steak dish which he said was good but not worth the price($20,) just very thin. With tip for our family of 4(all with beverages other than water, no dessert,) it was about $80. Service is friendly and prompt with fun ambience. Thus is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. My co workers and I always go here. They have the best Margaritas and Sangrias around. The food us authentic and seasoned very well and prepared well. Many of the other Mexican places I have been too the food was greasy. Not at Flacos. Today I had the chef special which was a crab meat enchilada made with blue corn. Simply amazing. It was served with their homemade guacamole which is out of this world and homemade beans. House made tortillas and homemade salsa is served to you on the table when u are seated. Been here several times and the service is great. My wife had a steak that was grey, watery and again, NO MEXICAN SPICE!! Can someone there go to Price Chopper and get bottle of McCormacks Mexican seasoning or something? better yet, how about a chef. Really folks, this is an affront to all ethnic eateries and eaters. I've lived in Brooklyn for the last 10 years...I've had some of the best Mexican food in Sunset Park and have visited various areas of the Yucatan peninsula over the last 5 years....I just wanted to put that out there as a qualifier for those trying to discount my ability to tell the difference between good and bad food. That said...Coyote Flaco started off with fresh salsas and sauces which I would have a truly difficult time believing that they were not prepared that day in the restaurant. No store bought stuff here. The margaritas were strong and tasty. THey seemed smaller that the usual huge glasses provided at other places, but my date was plastered after two. Food was wonderful. Seafood seemed fresh (had shrimp) and the mole was wonderfully rich. Even the rest of the folks there were engaging. A few regulars provided some nice interaction without being overbearing or rude. A nice change from Brooklyn. I could have opted out of the interaction without offending and had a nice private date. If you are looking for privacy, they have a small separate room with two tables in it. Prices were around $18/entree for dinner. Margaritas were between $6 and $15 depending on on whether you wanted well or not. Some were just great including the cilantro and jalapeno margarita. Total bill with tip came to $100 for two people. But this is not a place you should feel you need to go out of your way to visit. Prices are okay, but the portions are tad too small. Service can get bad, as this is a small place and doesn't have much help when it gets crowded and parking can also be a problem.
