We travel full time for work so the wife and I took a month or so to spend in the Joshua Tree area in our off time. We decided to desert camp close to a RC track. The 1st time we visited the owner and staff were helpful, friendly, and social. They invited us for race night and said we could even use a rental car for the night since we didn't have anything for their class. Unfortunately, that whole experience felt like we just paid to be track marshals and then be rushed into races we weren't even ready for. Either way, we made the best of it and enjoyed our time together through the event. At the end of the night, the owner asked me about my experience and, being transparent, I told him the other racers were driving dirty by putting other drivers intentionally into the wall and, from my experience, I wasn't really a fan of rushing out to marshal every race while I watched regulars sit back. Over the next few days, the owner began to display a growing chip on his shoulder. At one point, I was working on my car and asked the owner if he could help me with some soldering. He said he would help but avoided my pit table for the rest of the evening and even made a snide remark to another customer about being asked to solder something for me. If it weren't for another regular there who ended up giving me a hand with the soldering, I'd probably still be waiting for the owner to come through with his commitment. We were invited for another race night after fixing our short course truck. We drove an hour trip to the track only to be told they weren't racing that class that night. So, we stayed and watched all the races to make it worth our trip. That must've upset the owner because, afterwards, we went to a local outdoor track and were told all about the local drama. Unfortunately, as visitors to the area, minding your own business isn't good enough for the owner of Coyote Hobbies because he will want to start drama with you. If you're not from the area, he will likely try to make you the scapegoat for his own drama. With how uncomfortable he made us feel over time during our stay, I'd highly recommend anyone traveling through to avoid this place if you don't care for conflict and drama. This place is known for it and has no problem making you the center of the drama they start. The owner is well-aware that he is the only race track/hobby shop in the area, and he has no problem using that monopoly to his advantage. It is people like this who turn newcomers away from the hobby, and it's clear that he really only cares about advancing his and his son's careers in the RC world. Be prepared to kiss the proverbial ring if you plan to take a trip to Coyote Hobbies. read more

Just visited Coyote for the first time yesterday to try to trouble shoot my kids RC car that wasn't able to drive forward or reverse but the wheels would turn just fine. Now let me say that im not at all knowledgeable in RC world stuff which is why I wanted to go get some advice from a SME (subject matter expert) which is what I thought I would fine there. Well...I was mistaken, when I walked in with my kid and the RC car in hand the guy behind the counter was talking to another person (which at first I thought was a customer he was helping) so I waited patiently until it was my turn. However I quickly realized this was a personal conversation about the guy behind the counters personal vehicle and customizations that were being done. The "customer" was giving feedback on parts and customization advise and this conversation continued for several minutes...again I waited patiently in the corner as there was no one else in the shop. I was not asked if I needed help until well into their conversation and felt as if I was interrupting their convo, and even then the convo continued on in between "helping me". End result was that my motor was bad and continued to talk, did not give me options or what I could do until I asked what my options were, then I was told here is a motor that should work (should work?) As I mentioned in the beginning I thought I was coming to seek an SME but man I was mistaken. Oh and did I mention the convo continued? I was done and wasn't going to spend my time or money there so I respectfully said ok thanks (mind you at no time was I rude or disrespectful or even interrupted their convo) and walked out, while the conversation still continued. I ended up going home and tinkering (with something I know nothing about) and watched a couple of YouTube videos and was able to get the motor working again due to some stuck debris. Now my kids RC is working and no thanks to coyote. This isn't even to bash Coyote but some constructive criticism, as I have 3 RC cars that I play with my kids and 3 potential upgrades or fixes/sales were lost. I really hope they read reviews and strive to improve the customer service. read more

They don't have a good selection of parts or rc cars nothing really on display the place felt like you need to know what you need before coming here or better yet call I guess. The service was not very good I asked for a couple parts the guy seemed bothered to even answer my questions and told me what you see is what we have which wasn't much help to be honest. read more

The owner really cares about the track and the environment that's involved with the Racing atmosphere. The hobby shop has a great selection of parts and great value comparatively to other areas for the customer. They really take time to make sure the customers happy. read more

the owner is so rude, inconsiderate, no customer service skills at all, felt that he was racist, and arrogant . ao.... we walked in behind a couple and went into the shops part area i even help open the clear curtains for him and didn't even say thank you or anything!!! he started talking to the couple about racing and putting down some pro racers. i mean saying a lot of trash about them. mean while....... never even said i'll be right with you or anything!!! we listen to the owner over 20 min talk bad about some pro-racers (rc racers) that even race there......my friend and i looked at each other and said lets get the hell out of here!!! speaking of hell........it was hot as hell in there no fan nothing. he never acknowledge us at all...... i will never go there again if i'm ask about it, i'm telling them and everyone the same thing...stay away.......one of my worst experiences ever!!! read more

What a great track! First time I've driven on pure clay and what a trip it was. Took part in the JBRL, had my rear ended handed to me but loved it the whole way through. Wish I lived a bit closer I would make the club races. Great hobby shop with excellent helpful staff. The locals were all friendly and helpful also, coming from a classic outdoor dirt track that I club weekly, hotrod hobbies, my buggy definitely wasn't setup for clay. Some helpful hints got my car some steering and by the end of the event was starting to figure it out. Cheers to you guys keep up the great operation, I'll be back ! read more

I am a local business owner who decided to spend my money here over amazon, a few more bucks out of pocket but supporting local high desert business. I'll do this all day long. So my low rating is due to the sub-par service. We had an issue with my sons car (traxxas rustler) and my wife went in to buy a new batter since our existing batter had sat for along time and wasn't taking a charge. When she went in she was told she needed to buy the more expensive batter cause that's what his rustler really should have, maybe we have truly do have the better battery but my wife would have preferred information and options to make what she felt was the best decision for our circumstances and not being told you just need to take this one. Ok, what every. We have a better battery. Then when the battery didn't make the truck run I went in with the charger and battery to have them check things out it was like pulling teeth from the owner to get service and info to get my sons truck running. Asked if he had a multi tester to check batter and charger voltage and he said he didn't have one. All he could offer was to change the fuse on the charge yet it looked good, and I already stated it would only test at .34 volts when o checked it at home. Through this time lapse of poor service, the game on tv seems to be of more interest than me to the owner. And the store was empty! Bottom line is the whole time, and three times in the store before this, I felt like I was bothering him. I was big into RV cars as a kid 30 years ago and I remember my local Hobbie shop being so helpful, so different here. I have no desire to spend anymore time or money at this business based on 4 in store experiences now. read more

Visited my family in Victorville and lil sis asked me to fix her R/C. Great customer service and willing to hunt down Traxxas parts for me. I thought I smelled nitro burning but I was in a rush to grab the parts & get my sisters car running again. The track and smell of nitro made me want to race again. Not sure if the track races nitro but wouldn't mind picking up a B6 for my sis and I. Gonna check this place out on my next visit and maybe get back into RC. read more

Came here with my husband and son. My husband just got an Nitro gas powered RC car he was excited to get it going. He is very new to this so he needed some help. We went to this shopping thinking he would get some help but all they could say was electric RC cars and better and offered no help. We went to another hobby shop and they have everything my husband needed. I honestly wish they would have been more helpful and not so cocky. read more

I'm new to RC cars and I make good money. Which means I'm buying lots of parts. But I won't be buying any more from Coyote. The first time I went there it was the girl. Even though she had a broke foot she was super helpful and nice. The next two times I went she wasn't there and only the guy (Dave) was there. Dave was a complete asshole. Every question I asked I got a dumb answer and a rude attitude. Like I wasting his time. It was like pulling teeth to get any information from him. I went there to spend some money... he didn't suggest any parts or upgrades. Anything I asked him if he had he would either say "no I don't have that" or just point to the wall behind him where there were several options I guess I was supposed to figure out myself. The lady is nice, though, and the track looks cool. Handle it hobbies in Rancho Cucamonga has 100 times the customer service. its worth the drive if you want to get help with your RC and feel like a customer. read more

Great track, friendly environment and staff. The local driver's couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Dave a Mona the owners are really cool. And Jeff, I think is his name, helped us out with a shock build and installing a new motor and speed control combo (my son and I are new to the Hobby). Did it all with a cool attitude, not making me feel dumb for not being fully knowledgeable yet to the Hobby like some other tracks in the area. Overall very cool place. About a forty-five mile drive for me but well worth the trip. The track is awesome high grip surface that Dave keeps fresh with new designs every couple of months or so. Let me say first of all it's awesome that the high desert has an indoor track... But as far as the hobby shop side, they didn't have much inventory for someone that is looking to buy a complete kit. Actually, not much inventory at all. I would much rather shop local, instead of "hobby people" if they only had the things I needed. Again I shout out to my favorite place on earth. The staff is very knowledgeable and eager to help. I am a newbie and they have been there with me the whole way. I purchased the associated sc10rs along with a few upgrades. They also were willing to teach me how to modify the chassis to accept a brace. My truck is super tough now and handles like a buggy on steroids! The top speed is 30mph and it's a total blast to race around the track. Stopped by to check out the track and shop. They have great prices on merchandise. It's awesome because if you break anything while racing you can buy the part to fix it right then and there. They have tables you can work on your cars at. It's a great addition to the high desert. It being an indoor track has it's pro's and con's, but we love it! read more

After being a customer for a few years. I had an issue with a battery I bought. I attempted to buy a Traxxis battery, but they only had the off brand. When I asked if it would work with my charger they told me yes. I have never had problem with my charger, and had used it to charge Traxxis batteries earlier that day with no issue. I got home, plugged the new battery into my charger and fifteen minutes later the charger was on fire IN MY HOME! If I wasn't paying attention the damage would have been much worse. When I attempted to return the battery and showed them the charger, they told me it was a coincidence and that the battery could not have caused the fire. I asked them to test it with their own Traxxis charger to belay my fears, and the refused. I asked for them to exchange the battery, and they refused, I asked them to give me my money back, and the refused. At any other reputable place of business, if a repeat customer, who had never returned anything before came in and told them a battery caused a fire in their house, they would simply exchange or refund it regardless of whether they believed the product was faulty or not. It makes sense to keep the repeat customer, because you will end up with more money in the long run, and it's just a plain old good and compassionate business practice. The disrespect they showed to a repeat customer is un-heard of. I will never go there again, and you shouldn't either if you care about being able to return a faulty product, or being treated with dignity. I literally created a yelp just to write this review because of how I felt. I never complain, but this time I felt that something had to be done. read more
