Portion was fantastic too, could have been two meals if it wasn't SO GOOD we finished. Only note is if you love spice ask for more than you think, I went with medium and didn't really get much. I really enjoyed this busy restaurant in the heart of State College. Walked in and seated quickly. The tables were buzzing with patrons. The Lemongrass soup, as it is called, but is Tum Yum soup and is a full of flavor treat. Spicy, savory and filled with chicken and mushrooms. I love spicy and this has a bite! The chicken satay appetizer is 5 skewers either a side of peanut dipping sauce. The Beef Salad is really a Larb Gai. Spicy! With lime tang and a ton of fresh veggies! Did I mention spicy?! Get the beef waterfall, high spice level with a side of white rice. We came here for lunch, after going a few times for dinners, and the pad Thai was good (the pad Thai wasn't too sweet as it is sometimes at other Thai restaurants). The curry was okay. Service is a bit slow and has been at many different times I've been there. They served their ambiance is nice, newly painted it seems and is a nice place to sit and chat. They served their hot complimentary soup in disposable plastic containers when we were dining in, which was really strange. I didn't eat it because hot liquid + weak plastic seems like a recipe for eating weird chemicals. read more

This place has been a constant in my life since I was a freshman. They definitely had a change in chefs since then and the foods a bit different, but still very good! Our waiter took a minute to warm up to us, but by the end I felt like we were besties. He went out of his way to make sure our meals were to our liking and even offered to grab more chilis when he noticed from literally across the restaurant that my food wasn't as spicy as I was hoping, mans was out here doing the lords work. The ambiance is always cozy and for a BYOB you're not going to get a nicer spot. I will say their portions aren't huge for the price but for a few bucks you can add extra veggies or noddles to it and it's well worth it. read more

We have been to Cozy Thai before. Always liked the food and ambience. So we were in for a rude awakening this time. Instead of a dine in experience, you now order at the counter. That is fine. But they served in a bunch of take out containers even though we were dining in. Their excuse is that they have limited staffing. So they have chosen to use excessive plastics instead of hiring someone to do their dishes. We were very upset to inadvertently cause so much plastic waste despite going for dine in. Restaurants must do the right thing and not cause excessive pollution to save a dime. We don't plan to go back. read more

I've been to Cozy Thai a few times now and have been really happy with my food. I think I had takeout from them once in the Pre-Covid times, and enjoyed it, but since then my only experiences have been their limited dine-in option (basically you order takeout and pay up front, the hand you your food packaged as takeout, but you are allowed to sit inside and eat in, so no table service). I really like that they've adapted this way, and every time I've gone it hasn't been crowded/I haven't been concerned about Covid at all. The frustrating thing about that system is drinks, but I think they'd be ok with you bringing a reusable water bottle or something (they have bottled drinks to sell but I just hate buying single-use plastics anymore). The tables have been clean and service very friendly. Food-wise, I've heard good things about everything on the menu but I pretty consistently order the Pad See Ew with chicken. It's a little sweet but has a great flavor overall. It also comes with a side salad or soup, and the soup is what I get (especially in the winter months) and that's a great little appetizer! I've also found that the portion of the main dish is usually enough for me to be full for lunch and have 1/3-1/2 leftover for another meal or snack. That's great, because their prices are a little higher than what I normally get when I go out. But if I can get two meals out of it, I don't mind as much. Plus, they're local, making respectable efforts to keep customers during the Covid times. Overall, if they were just a few dollars cheaper I'd probably go once a week. One of my favorite places to eat in state college. I moved out of the contiguous United States a couple years ago. I recently flew back to PA to visit someone, and made sure to find time to drive two hours up to State College for the sole purpose of eating here again. I've tried to find Thai food places that taste as good as Cozy Thai where I live now, and as of yet have not succeeded. I can't recommend giving them a try enough. The service is good, the location is nice, and the ambience is well put together, but I still have dreams of their beefy Pad See Lew. Chicken Massaman Curry: Only flavor I could taste was salt - none of the other flavors showed through and the texture was not creamy. Chicken Pad Thai: Very bland. Wow! All I can simply say is WOW! This has got to be one of the best Thai food places I have been too. I visited yesterday with my boyfriend as we were in town visiting his Alma Mater. My boyfriend studied at Penn State for years and talked about how much he loved Cozy Thai and how frequently he would visit. It's been four years since he's left State College and he said the food was EXACTLY as he remembered it. We both ordered the lemongrass chicken with fried rice and shrimp cakes. OMG! The Lemongrass chicken was sooo delicious. It had a nice crisp to it and was slightly sweet. The also served a large portion which is nice because you'll definitely have leftovers to take home. The shrimp cakes were delicious as well. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting and definitely try the lemongrass chicken. The menu states that Cozy Thai's best seller is the Pad Thai, however, I feel like the lemongrass chicken is definitely a hidden gem. I will definitely be back next time I am in town! read more

Good Thai food in state college! The crispy tofu protein option is especially delicious, as it has a really nice texture when served and soaks up the spices and flavors nicely. I've had it in the pad Thai and drunken noodles. The curry is also very good, and perfect for a cold rainy day in SC! We tried the shrimp cakes as well, and they were pretty good! Heads up though, the texture is similar to a chicken nugget, so don't expect much shrimp texture or flavor. That being said, they were a good appetizer and the sauce was a perfect pairing! read more

As with many other restaurants in the area, it's the only one of it's kind. But even still it remains a delicious Thai restaurant! My favourite is the grilled chicken with papaya salad! It's the only option in the dinner menu that let's you try 2 delicious dishes as 1 meal option. And you might think nothing of "grilled chicken" but you need to try this! The spicy tangy sauce together with the perfectly grilled juicy chicken is so good! The refreshing papaya salad is also a perfect pairing and I'm so glad it's available for dinner. It's not on the regular menu online so if you want it for take out, call them and let them know you want the grilled chicken with papaya salad! read more

I'm hungry just writing this review! A group of us traveled to State College and enjoyed it so much the first night that we actually ordered again later that weekend. We sampled a variety of dishes and really enjoyed everything. The food that we ordered as "medium spice" wasn't spicy enough for me, but the "spicy" level was just enough! Others in the group couldn't handle the spice, so keep in mind I always want the food spicy. My favorite dish we got was the drunken noodles with chicken. The restaurant is BYOB, so for 2 apps for the table and all 5 of us to each order an entree the bill was only ~$80. Great buy! I would certainly go back! read more

Very popular standby in state college for simple reason that they are predictable and good! Family has eaten here many times over past years as students, visiting town , etc. not the fanciest or most gourmet Thai restaurant I've been to. But it is a nice place with friendly staff where you can get quality food at a reasonable price. Gluten free options are ample. The food here is phenomenal. The drunken noodles were probably my favorite. They are spicy and saucy which gives a good flavor and isn't dry! Tofu is super tasty too and not too squishy yet not too dry. It really soaked in the spices well. The spring rolls taste very fresh and crispy and were served really hot! Panang curry and green curry were both very tasty but honestly tasted a bit toooo similar. So don't recommend ordering both! Pineapple fried rice is just average though. Everything came super fresh and tasty leaving us super full and beyond satisfied. Just want to mention they don't serve brown rice! They also are byob only but the food is so worth it. I will say though that the service was extremely slow. It took 45 minutes to get green tea which was just a mug of hot water with a tea bag!! I have loved everything I have ordered here. The drunken noodles are saucy and delicious, the pad thai is very flavorful and the spicy basil has a sauce to die for. Additionally, I always make sure to order the appetizers. The spring rolls and egg rolls are both freshly made and are a great predecessor to any meal. My favorite though is the Tom Yum soup. The broth is spicy with notes of acidity creating a perfect balance. My only critique is that the aromatics (lemongrass) is cut up into smaller pieces and to the best of my knowledge, these aren't supposed to be eaten. It's hard to avoid the crunch bits of stalk in the broth. It does take about 20 minutes to get the food and about 10 minutes to get an appetizer brought out so plan accordingly. Overall, I have tried Thai food in a lot of different restaurants and a lot of different states. Cozy Thai Bistro is the Thai restaurant I compare to and it's hard to beat. Yes, Cozy Thai IS cozy. Their menu is decent, with curries, noodle and rice dishes, and traditional plates. A friend and I dined here a few weeks past. My friend knew our server, which could explain her friendliness, but I find it hard to believe she wouldn't be nice[1] to everyone else. I had the drunken noodles (appropriate for Penn State, eh?) with beef, stir-fried with bean sprouts, jalapeno peppers, fresh basil, all in a slightly spicy (but mostly tangy) garlic sauce. While lunch prices are reasonable, my dinner portion weighed in at $10.25, which seemed high, especially considering their location on campus. It tasted fine, thankfully, and I left satisfied. The next time I visit Cozy Thai, I'm bringing a group, a few bottles, and we're cramming in a corner table. Serving delicious food with a warm service in a cozy ambience. This place is right at the corner if you walk down straight from the university library. Their lunch special is pocket friendly serving main course with a salad or soup. All the items can be made Vegan/ vegetarian with a large selection of options to pick from. We started with hot n sour soup and salad alongside crunchy and not so oily treats of spring rolls served with sweet and sour dip. The salad was fresh, and drizzled with house made chunky peanut sauce. For main course we ordered ginger garlic stir fry with rice, padthai and drunken noodles. Each plate has additional salad to accompany the meal. The housemade coconut ice cream contains shavings of jackfruit topped with crushed peanut is a delight after a sumptuous meal. The place is clean and you won't mind spending some extra time looking out the window. I loved their food and service and hopefully you would too. PS - tipping before when the bill arrives is weird. The restaurant policy requires you to do that upfront shows that they don't want to serve you as elite. They definitely need to update their system. read more

I ventured off to State College for the day and getting Thai food was a must while on the journey. Thai Cozy seemed like a pretty good place to stop at, so I stopped here with a friend of mine. Upon walking into the restaurant, I was greeted by a very upscale and zen atmosphere. There were multiple artificial candles hanging from the ceiling, the lighting was dark, and there was music playing in the background. We were seated promptly and then greeted by our waiter. He was not very engaging and he had no experience with customer service at all. He didn't introduce himself and wasn't knowledgeable on the menu items as well, in addition to not checking on us once during our entire dining experience. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, which was extremely delicious and cooked authentically. The portions were extremely generous as well! I asked for chili sauce on the side, because I have a very high heat tolerance and I love to spice things up. This dish was utterly amazing! I ate every single bit of it down to the last bite. In exception to the bad service that I received from my waiter, my dining experience was amazing here! I'm updating again. 5 stars for offering free community meals during the pandemic! Thank you! Perhaps it's too harsh. I was suffering from meat poisoning at the time of the last review. I still love the food here and I suppose errors can be made. I'm just always careful to double check before dighin Vegetarians be weary! This place has gone from one of my favorite restaurants in town to a resturant I refuse to eat in. After slipping in order accuracy over the past year or so, tonight they hit an all time low. I ordered take away of Mee Kha Tee which is ground tofu and egg in a curry sauce. One bite in, I felt an unfamiliar texture. I swallowed and went in for a second bite and realized - they added Chicken! I haven't eaten meat in nearly a decade and I feel like I've been poisoned. It's going to be a long night of an upset stomach and psychological trauma. How can a resturant that caters to vegetarians and vegans make such an error? What if it was a nut allergy and I said "no peanuts" and they added them anyways. This kind of careless error can kill people. Luckily for me, it will be just 24-48 hours of illness. They have completely lost my trust One of my absolutely favorite restaurants in State College. Consistently excellent food. read more

I enjoy the food and atmosphere of this establishment. I enjoy their lunch specials, namely the Sriracha Noodles, Drunken Noodles, and Basil Chicken specials that come with a great salad. The decor is nice and welcoming as the name suggests, and the food is solid. I'm glad to have this as an option in State College, and also recognize it's a a local favorite. However, I would be more likely to write a fully positive review if it weren't for a few things. One, naming yourself the "Cozy Thai Bistro" and serving literally *everything* in disposable plastic containers this far past the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is something I can't square away in my head. It doesn't present a welcoming atmosphere, and there's something second-rate about receiving to go containers from a place that supposedly emphasizes comfort and sit-down oriented dining. Aside from that, it's also incredibly wasteful to not serve dine-in customers on porcelain plates. The amount of plastic disposed with one lunch serving is something to behold - plastic bag, plastic silverware, and at least two plastic takeaway containers for lunch specials - and the fix is as easy as serving dine-in customers on a porcelain plate. It gives the quality food a fast-food appearance, and also makes the customer question why they're eating inside or if they're attempting to be pushed out of the restaurant. It's just not welcoming, and doesn't cater to the name of the restaurant. Second, I am patient with wait staff, and I totally understand the plight of modern servers dealing with the Karens of the day who complain about a minor mix up with their order and so on. But the last 3 times I've come here, I've had difficulty ordering and receiving my food as a dine-in customer. For each noodle dish, there are wide traditional Thai noodles, and also the option of thin noodles. It's noted on the menu. The last two times I ordered the Sriracha noodles, the person behind the counter insisted that there are no thin noodles "and the noodles that come with that dish are pretty thin already" when they're not. Same with other noodle dishes. I had to be pretty insistent that's what I wanted to get it, which is odd when it's on the menu. Next, my food seemingly took forever, but really, what had happened was that the kitchen staff brought out a large amount of food (in plastic bags, plastic tupperware, and plastic silverware) to the front, and the person at the counter then distributed it to all the dine-in customers appropriately. Almost none were takeout. However, my dish just fell by the wayside, and I was only given my dish after waiting 40 minutes, walking up to the counter and asking for it, and for what I hoped to be my quick lunch, was old and cold at that point. It seems from my experience that the wait staff is inexperienced with the menu, forgot I was a dine in customer, and also forgot my order (the second time this has occurred.) If this happens one time, then that's okay. But the last three times at this establishment, something like this has occurred, so I'm questioning my return in the future. I say go if you want Thai takeout, and be insistent about the dish you want if you want any changes. But if you're expecting a "Cozy Thai Bistro", then consider elsewhere. read more

So I have been here many times and have had some great food but this past time I went I was disappointed in the service. So my curry bowl had a huge crack in it along the entire side of the bowl and was black inside, no the curry didn't leak, but health wise that is a huge health issue. When you have exposed ceramic, because of the porous nature, bacteria can grow in there and it can be really unsanitary and even cause food poisoning. I really hate giving back food and complaining so I asked as graciously as I possibly could for a new curry because of the crack. The waiter gave me a hard time about it honestly. And then later I heard him comment to another waiter that I better not ask for my money back. I was trying to be as kind as possible and left feeling terrible that I just wanted safe food which I paid for!
