I wanted a custom cake and the lady that helped me design the cake was super helpful and straightforward; a quality that I appreciate. When the cake was done, I was very pleased. It turned out just like how I wanted it to. I ordered an 8" round custom cake and paid roughly $70-$75 which is not bad at all because it was very nicely done and tasty. **Dessert Lounge Review** After a night out and about, we decided to stop in for dessert and some drinks around 10 pm. First of all, the idea behind the dessert lounge is GENIUS. Late night desserts, with several recommended drink pairings from wine, coffee, liquor, and even tea. They had several desserts available, including gluten-free and non-chocolate options. The cafe is cute and clean, and our service was good. Our waitress even got us the name of the wine that we loved, so that we could go out and get some of our own later. Now, on to the food and drinks! Chocolate Peanut Butter Lava Cake - My husband is a lover of all things chocolate and peanut butter, so he saw this on the menu and had to have it. It was warm, and the peanut butter inside paired so well with the cake and the chocolate ganache it was served with. A+ Banana Bread Pudding w/ Honey Latte - Sweet, soft, warm and buttery. A beautiful bread pudding bounty, and the honey latte was refreshing and a perfect pair. Cinnamon Creme Brulee w/ Almond Champagne - The creme brulee was pretty good, and had the perfect amount of cinnamon to add nice flavor without being overbearing. I prefer my creme brulee with a thicker crust, but this was a good one nonetheless. The champagne was DELICIOUS. So much so, that we asked our waitress where they got it! Flourless Torte - This was the dessert I ordered and I LOVED it. The torte was dense, moist, and super chocolatey. The cream on top was infused with almond, which really gave it a distinct flavor profile and I felt elevated the whole dish. It was also served with a slathering of caramel, which had a very slight burnt tinge to it. Again, it added a lot of complexity to the dish. I love that Creme is open until 12 am, as so many places in the Metro close shop early. We had a wonderful time sitting, drinking, and being merry. We walked across the street from Bistro Montage after we had dinner this Saturday. It was about 7:30 when we walked up and there was only one table open. I was surprised it was so busy so early on a Saturday. It just kept filling up as time went on. We were only there for a short time but it has a great weekend vibe. The menu was scaled down for the Valentine's weekend. Was sad to see the Apple Crisp wasn't an offering. I'd heard good things and it's my boyfriend's favorite. Instead I went with the carrot cake. Soooo good. Lots of different elements and tastes but it was awesome! Bf chose the savory blue cheese cheesecake. It was pretty good. Not a choice I'd make for my dessert, I like it sweet, but it really was good. My boyfriend knows the owner so we've had her cupcakes before. They're good, too. I really like her vanilla bean ones. Eggnog at Christmas time were good too! Last night we didn't get drinks since we already had some at dinner, but there were some creative ones on the menu. Will have to try some next time. This a great date night stop or a great place to hang out for a couple hours with girlfriends. There's also some stops at the bar to sit. It's a bar. With cake!! Liquor and cake - the two best things in the same place! The cupcakes are amazing - they keep the daily cupcake menu small which I like because I get overwhelmed if there are too many choices. The favors for these cakes are amazing - you have to try a cupcake here at least once! The desserts here are out of this world too. One thing I like about the dessert menu is that each dessert is paired with an alcoholic and a non alcoholic drink. Choosing a drink to compliment you dessert just enhances the whole experience! If you don't like liquor they have some great coffee drink too - but I highly recommend you try their mixed drinks! Great atmosphere here - not too noisy mostly just friends having civilized conversation and unwinding at the the of the day. We had the peanut butter lava cake fearing that it'd be this gummy wad of peanut butter encased in flavorless chocalate cake in a sea of Bosco (the power of positive thinking, right?). We were very pleasantly surprised! It's a keeper. I wasn't overwhelmed by the banana bread pudding dessert, however. My husband and I went to Creme after dinner for dessert and a night cap! I had never heard about it until randomly googling "dessert bars"! We had the chocolate chip cheesecake special and the fried cake balls. They were both super delicious! The fried cakes balls tasting like donuts and was served with some chocolate sauce and whipped cream for dipping. And they were served warm!! Soo yummy! How come no one told me there was a dessert bar in Des Moines?? Rude. They have a super sleek location right off Ingersoll, in the Drake neighborhood. Its a very open space with several tables and a pretty good selection of desserts. With "cupcake" in their name, naturally I needed to try some cupcakes. And a doughnut. And a cocktail. And plated dessert..... Ok, this was consumed during a few visits. I swear. I've tried the peanut butter cupcake, blueberry pancake cupcake, maple bacon doughnut, and whisky/cream parfait. oh, and a swig of my friends coffee inspired cocktail. The doughnut was fucking delicious. Sweet. Salty. Pillowy. *sigh* Everything I was expecting, and then some. Their cupcakes ($3) are not huge, but certainly pack a punch. The peanut butter had nice flavor, and who can't resist the cute mini reese's cup on top? (I obviously can't.) The blueberry pancake had a little blueberry jam inside. Super good stuff! And the whisky/cream parfait was a little underwhelming. I felt like it was missing a texture component in the parfait (and the little cookie on the side didn't count.) It was a little $$ considering what it was. I had a glass of bubbly ($7), which was nice and bubbly, not some flat leftovers from the night before. The coffee inspired cocktail was super smoooooth. I can see why some are disappointed by the cupcake selection by evening time, but they must be selling out during their daytime hours. So, as with any bakery, stop in early to get cupcakes. Impromptu date night tonight! Creme was a hit all around. I had the Chocolate Almond Torte and my Dominican had the White Chocolate Cranberry Pie. Holy schnikies...yum. Took a trip to Des Moines this past weekend and Creme was on the agenda as part of our Food Network show bucket list. I have visted 5 cupcakes places thus far that have appeared on Cupcake Wars. I attended the Dessert Lounge part of Creme, arriving at about 8:30-9 pm. There are about 10 tables inside the bakery and several outside. The lights were dimmed, music played in the background, and all around you delicious looking desserts and cocktails floated by. I was really interested in the dessert/adult beverage pariing menu and ordered off of that. My choice: The strawberry shortcake and an amaretto champagne. The shortcake was moist and light and the strawberry sauce had basil mixed in which gave it a surprising but much enjoyed flavoring. I liked it better than mint which is the usual dessert choice. A bite of dessert and a sip of champagne and I could defnitely tell the care and craft that goes into the pariings. The drink makes the dessert come alive even more. My dates choice: the molten chocolate cake with pistachio mousse and sweet cherries. The cake was moist and delicious and the pistachio fluff went very well with the cake flavor. The desserts are made from scratch. Our server was wonderful. Friendly and knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Saw the baretender making a Spanish coffee - a drink set on fire behind the bar to caramelize the sugar. It looked incredible. This is the type of place that one who see in Chicago or New York and you would have to wait for 1-2 hours to get in to on a Friday/Saturday night. The drinks ordered were $8-10 and the desserts were $10 each. I don't feel that $35 bill was overpriced for the food, drinks, service, or atmosphere that was received. The owner stopped by the all of the tables throughout the evening to see how things were with everyone and upon hearing we were from our of town, came back with two doughnuts boxed up for our trip home the next morning. And the doughnuts were also great. Moist doughnut with sugar and a layer of creme filling. As soon as we walked in and sat down, they let us know their happy hour specials, and their special for the month. Awesome service. I've been to Creme twice now, both times in the evening, and have enjoyed myself immensely. The best way to spend a night at Creme is cozied up at the bar, where you can get all the best recommendations from the bartenders. They serve up some of the most creative and delicious cocktails I've ever had. Not just in Des Moines, but anywhere. Make sure to get in there for their Autumn cocktails! After spending three years in Austin, TX, the Agave Way hit me just right, like a spiced up Mexican Martini. And the St. Louis Southside had so many incredible flavors, I actually had to sit for a minute and soak it all in. They use high quality liquor, fresh ingredients, and most of the cocktails still stay under $10. This is definitely my go to place for a good cocktail. I haven't had any cupcakes or donuts yet, but I did have the Pumpkin Spice Cake Pudding, and holy moly, if you like pumpkin flavored things, do yourself a favor and go order some. My only critique is that I wish it had more of a loungy feel at night, dim the lights bit. read more

You'd be surprised how many other places really screw up a simple coffee with Baileys but this place does it well - so well that I had two. I ordered a lemon bar to go and told myself "just one bite!" but then I ended up eating it all there. It was creamy and so rich. And it was a big bar! They don't throw you a tiny 2x2 inch square of lemon bar - they give you a decadent pizza slice of a lemon bar. The interior is nothing to write home about and is pretty simple. Our server was very lovely and attentive. Next door is a pet shop and I always crane my neck to see a cat or two as I walk into Crème, so that's an added bonus. I love Creme Cupcake! It is located off of Ingersoll in a cozy little part off Des Moines nestled right off of Downtown and close to Des Moines University. The shop has an upscale look but also feels inviting. At night time the menu changes and they serve creative adult beverages with their dessert selections. I love all of the cupcake flavor options and that they are always changing up their selection so you will always find something new to try. I think it is great that they raise money for great causes.
