The German Pantry in Hahndorf is your one stop shop for everything edible, and some not so edible, German style! Not the biggest store on the planet, but it doesn't have to be. The smell of cured meats and metwursts fill your nostrils as you enter the shop and low, when you turn to your left you are greeted by THE WALL OF BEER GLASSES! Rumoured to be the 14th or 15th wonder of the world, there are plenty to choose from, including the trademark 'Boot' and other beer branded glasses in their traditional shapes (like the cool Kwak mini yard glass, even though it is from Belgium). You can also find a large selection of sweets and other random german fare, but lets face it, Beer and Meat is where it begins and ends!

It's just a bit out from the Parabanks Shopping Centre and most people are likely to go to the deli that's in there rather than walk a few minutes to this one. It's worth the hike though, especially for the pizza dough. We've bought the pizza dough a few times from them and each time it's been just the right consistency. Add to that the cheese and meat from the deli and you have a damn fine pizza. Put it in the oven and... wow... just wow... Forget buying pizza, make it yourself. It's half the fun!!

Prices are pretty standard, some may think the platters a bit overpriced but they are actually very filling. These guys are very passionate about supporting businesses on the Fleurieu Peninsula and in SA. So many of my favourite producers feature on the menu- say cheese, Four winds chocolate, swell beer, dawn patrol coffee roasters, spice girlz and fine and dandy Teahouse. It's the perfect place to kick back with a coffee, have a long lunch or a sneaky wine (because it's attached to Wirra Wirra, one of the best wineries going around). Regular general store products (milk, bread, toilet roll and other domestic necessities) are supplemented here by the 'gourmet' menu and products on offer. It's a bit schizophrenic as far as setups go, but the prices aren't prohibitive and it works. It seems odd to find a 'gourmet' general store tucked away on semi-rural Longwood Road in the Adelaide Hills. From my first time there to my most recent visit, the owner of the cafe has consistently come out to greet me and ask me how my day has been. This sort of pleasantry goes a long way and leaves a lasting impression ensuring the return of their customers. It's little things like small talk, wiping down your table and ensuring you have a clean ashtray that make the experience all the more enjoyable. The Deli is limited to breakfast and lunch meals, but do both extremely well with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Their version of the B.L.T in a focaccia is my personal favourite, and the sizing doesn't leave you wanting more. The chicken schnitzel wrap is also a delectable choice. Coffee here is superb, and the fact that they offer large mugs is a bonus - the more the better! In addition to hot beverages, the cafe also makes smoothies on demand with your choice of ingredients. My girlfriend loves their freshly squeezed orange juice and carrot smoothies, and although the combination of the two may be off-putting, it's surprisingly good. The only criticism I can make of this place is that they don't stay open too long passed lunchtime and are closed on weekends, which is a downer if you're hoping to grab a late lunch or a weekend brunch.
