'The Fitzroy Tavern' is part of the Samuel Smith crew which means it is cheap. It is the perfect place for stocking up on a few drinks before a night out or just to socialize with a group of friends. The pints are under £3, which in this day and age in London, has become very rare. I usually go for the cider, but I have been told by my male counterparts, that the lager is good and they also provide a good selection of ales. Samuel Smith pubs tend not to have any music, and this one is no exception. This results in quite a loud clatter of voices when it is busy, but also enables you to have a very soft and quiet drink in the afternoons. The last time I was here, Simon Amstel was present and as an avid fan, this must only mean good things.

Good pub!Was once a great pub. I first came here in the 60's with the painter Robert MacBryde & the writer, Elizabeth Smart : but that was just the start! At afternoon closing, most people in the French pub (Soho) would either drift south to the Kismet Club or walk north to the Mandrake, Muriel's or the Fitzroy which mysteriously stayed open :different licensing hours? In those days the Fitzroy had one huge bar - like a ballroom- & a smaller snug bar, where the literaries grouped. At,or before closing time, we'd fall out & go across to Bertorellis (aka Bert O'Reilly's now recently closed)where you could get a spag boll for 2/- In recent times I came with old friends,Aeronwy & Llewelyn. The Dylan Thomas Society meet here annually to honour their father's time spent in this pub.

Excellent food and charming atmosphere. Downstairs was full but there is lots of room upstairs if you want to sit for dinner.

A historic spot and a great place for a pint. I was imagining all the talent in one room decades ago.

Great place with nice location, friendly staff and cheap beer. Two pints for under a fiver? In central London? Yes please!

Review Highlights - The Fitzroy Tavern

Incredibly cheap range of beers on tap, if you're a fan of stout too I can definitely increase my recommendation if that is at all possible (about £2.

Flew in on a Sunday and arrived at my hotel around noon. Immediately went to the concierge to see…read moreif he could secure me a spot since I had zero luck trying to get a reservation on line for two weeks prior. Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.
