I had been having pain in my right back shoulder blade area for a few weeks but on Thursday night I moved a certain way that made it so it was hard to breathe. I have a friend who is a physical therapist, so I asked her and she said that it sounded like my rib wasn't where it was supposed to be and that a chiropractor might be the best option. (Which is kind of surprising because usually physical therapists aren't the biggest fans of chiropractors; but I'm glad she recommended me contacting a chiropractor) I came in and explained the pain I was feeling and he seemed to understand exactly what happened, I had a rib or two out of place and that's what was causing my pain. He helped loosen the muscles and worked on putting them back into place. I'm also 31 weeks pregnant so I have been having some sciatic pain down my left leg. He helped me with that as well. He told me that I may be sore and in pain for a day or two, but that should help. Today is 2 days after and I feel so much better! It's now just a dull pain and I have a followup appointment tomorrow. I would definitely recommend them!

had an extremely upsetting experience with Advanced Sports Medicine Clinic…read more I came in experiencing significant lower back pain, and I specifically told the doctor that I was also having abdominal pain and symptoms that were concerning to me. The Doctor still proceeded and gave me two steroid injections in my lower back. Shortly after being seen there. my condition became significantly worse and I ended up in the ER. I went into urinary retention, required a catheter, developed severe weakness in my legs, and eventually lost the ability to walk normally. I was ultimately hospitalized while doctors tried to determine what was happening. What has been especially difficult for me is knowing that I was trying to communicate that something felt seriously wrong with my body before everything escalated. Regardless of what ultimately caused my neurological symptoms, I wish my concerns and the combination of symptoms I was reporting had been taken more seriously and that I had been advised to seek a higher level of medical evaluation. After everything I went through--the ER, hospitalization, skilled nursing home, loss of mobility, bladder issues, and the ongoing recovery, I was honestly shocked that the clinic had the audacity to call me and still pursue my copay as though this had been an ordinary visit after what they put me through, given the circumstances, I would have expected significantly more compassion and consideration. This experience has had an enormous impact on my life, and unfortunately I would not feel comfortable returning to this clinic or recommending it to someone experiencing complex or rapidly worsening symptoms under this clinics care.

Dr. Gurney is a life saver. There have been several times over the years that we've needed him (our…read morewhole family has been to him at one time or another) and not only has he solved our pain and alignment problems gently and expertly, but he never urges you to come over and over again when it's not necessary; a problem with other chiropractors I've visited. As another reviewer mentioned, he almost puts himself out of a job except that his care has garnered a lot of loyalty from us. My son recently went to another chiropractor when Gurney wasn't available and was immediately bombarded with "necessary" x-rays and a long-term treatment plan for a supposed spinal defect. The bill that came and was submitted to insurance (thank goodness we're insured) for two visits was over $500.00! A typical patient portion for us with Aspen is $40.00 to $60.00 The worst I've ever been has been after a bad sledding accident where we went over a small ramp and landed right on my tailbone. I literally had to crawl part way back to my car and could hardly move. Dr. Gurney was able to realign my spine and ribs and use deep heat treatments and almost immediately I felt better and I think even as bad as that was, it was about only 4 treatments. Just recently I had a little spill on the tennis court and had a nagging pain in my shoulder and back. I put off going to the chiropractor for 4 weeks until it got to the point where I could no longer sleep on my side or even remove a t-shirt without help. Two visits and a months worth of problems were gone. I always wonder what would have happened if I'd gone to a GP...cortizone shots? Physical therapy for weeks? I just wished I'd gone in sooner. If you have a nagging pain that you just can't seem to get over; back pain, stuck ankle or a tricky finger, or worse you should consider chiropractic and especially Dr. Gurney...he's gentle, honest, and very knowledgeable and won't take you for a ride or keep working on you if you need to go to a doctor. I trust him.
