I met Dr Stephen Hull many years ago at Mercy for my back. Frankly I HATED THE GUY!! My first…read morename is Diane (this is my user name) he may remember me, if he sees this likely he will. He had a TALKING SCALE! I WAS a very big gal (almost 300 Lbs) Why did I HATE HIM? I felt he was so insulting!! AND WELL the bedside manners, maybe so,, BUT HE WAS NOT WRONG!! It took me MANY years to realize this, but I am so happy I did. Dr Hull took the skeleton he had/has, showed me exactly why my back was hurting so much, due to the excess weight. OH BOY I walked out of there FUMING to myself and the person with me!! BUT HE WAS NOT WRONG and deep down I KNEW THAT!! THANKS to Dr Hull, I am now at 166 lbs. My back RARELY HURTS. It was NOT just weight loss. Dr Hull and I hit heads several times (LOL If he sees this, I am the one who told you to also lose weight that I know your Dr wasn't pleased with your weight gain. I am sure now you may remember me, if you see this) I had been losing weight at this time. He angered me, in so many ways, but HE WAS RIGHT TOO!! Dr.'s now a days have to be so careful on what they say, it's TO BAD they do. Dr Hull upon hearing me saying some exercises were hurting me so much more he DID listen. He had XRays taken and had other exercises given to me. I had moved to Colorado, and am now back in Maine. In Colorado I saw another back Dr, who was able to manipulate my spine so it had straightened out! WOW!! WISH That could be here in Maine. But as the Dr. in Colorado did that, a LOT of what Dr Hull taught me came so much into play. IT does to this very day. Today when the pain hits, I do a few yoga stretches and I AM GOOD TO GO again!! Literally with what I learned from him was to take action and not sit on my butt when the pain hits, thanks to the yoga poses, I'll in 5 mins go from a pain level of 6 down to a 1 and even a 0. If you want a Dr who cares (it may not seem it at times, well it did/didn't to me) I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hull. Today at 166 LBS, with ALL of the help I've gotten I can again put my leg on the top of my HEAD And I am in my mid 60s! Be ready to work, what you put into it, you'll get out of it. The back pain will not leave without your investing yourself into it. Do the work and improve, go and not do the work, you'll not, it's really UP TO US but, Dr Hull and all the help there can guide you along the way. THANK YOU DR. HULL!! Diane L.

I've been in therapy with Maine Spine & Nerve since December. I was in constant pain, and unable to…read moresit or perform normal activities when I first sought care. I thought my only option for relief was surgery of which I had heard dire results. I read about decompression therapy and was relieved to see that there was an alternative to surgery. The doctor's at Maine Spine & Nerve took a thorough physical and oral examination including x-rays. The diagnosis indicated that I was a candidate for decompression therapy. At no time did they guarantee a cure, but given my condition, they had seen others with similar injuries who had relief and returned to normal daily activities after decompression therapy. They did indicate verbally and in writing that I was also responsible for working within their care guidelines in order to maximize the recovery efforts. Today, I am out of pain, able to sit comfortably, returning to a light exercise routine, and starting physical therapy. In closing, I am so thankful that I went this route instead of surgery. Thank you, Dr. Van Ploeg, Dr. Mueller and staff.

Both my husband and I have been patients at Maine Spine & Nerve Institute. My husband for…read more decompression and me for neuropathy. He did spinal injections which did not last more than a month. after NSSD the tingling and pain in his right leg and thigh is gone and has been gone for at least six months. He can do things now that he was unable to perform last spring. I have multiple problems. My first concern was neuropathy and I sought relief through Maine Spine & Nerve. From the get-go, Dr. Vander Ploeg informed me that he could help but because I'd suffered for so many years with this condition, I could expect only partial relief. He said a 40-50% reduction in symptoms and I feel that I achieved at least 60% if not more relief. I also suffer from back pain. I have been referred to orthopedic physicians for injections and physical therapists for physical therapy. I went to an acupuncturist. Nothing helped. Because of the success my husband has experienced, I know that Maine Spine & Nerve will be able to reduce my current pain. Further, some insurances do cover the cost of these treatments. Unfortunately, ours was not one of them. Would I recommend Maine Spine & Nerve to any of my friends? You bet! I already have. You couldn't ask for or find a more friendly, congenial and caring environment. Thank you Dr. V, Dr. Meuller and staff. Elsie and Harold Cebulla

This was my experience with Shawn R. Taylor, DC. ((603)447-1131, 486 White Mountain Hwy, Conway, NH…read more03818). I had seen Dr. Taylor 7/6/23 for a routine adjustment coming in with what I thought was SI pain. I came in this date because I was scheduled to go on a mountaineering wilderness trip in the high Sierras of California for 10 days (50 miles backpacking summiting Mt. Whitney the highest mountain in the contiguous United States) flying out 7/10/23 and wanted to get this issue past me. My experience is that Dr. Taylor is extremely heavy handed. I am 60 years old, 5'4" and 117lbs. Durring the side laying adjustment he heavily twisted me with significant force two times (he is a big man and it felt as if he was jumping heavily on my body to twist my back). Directly after this I felt a pain in my lower abdomen, as if I were "punched in the stomach". I trusted what Dr. Taylor was doing and did not make a fuss about it. I assumed the pain would go away. It ended up persisting for a month. I have been to a number of chiropractors over my lifetime and this unnecessary heavyhandedness is not someting that I have experienced before. Past providers appear to wait until the patient is ready (not guarded) before proceeding. Dr. Taylor appears to push through this muscle guardedness and therefore harmed me in the process. Durring my acclimatizing test hike time in Mammoth, California I was experiencing abdominal pain below my navel. This pain doubled me over with pain as I hiked/walked. On morning of 7/12/23 after a few test hikes, in which I was doubling over with pain on a consistent basis, I called Dr. Taylor. He did not seem concerned that the pain was now 6 days out and continuing. He told me to put heat on it. After the test hike that day I decided it would be wise to seek medical evaluation as I was leaving for the High Sierras in soon and I did not want to be out in the wilderness with no way to access help other than helicopter if something were to happen. 7/12/23 I went to the Mammoth California Hospital emergency room. This emergency room visit cost me $6,255,36. As a direct result of my last chiropractic treatment appointment with Dr. Taylor I was caused consistent ongoing excessive pain (as it began in his office directly after his side laying adjustment to my back). I contacted Dr. Taylor 7/30/23 by email as I was still experiencing pain. The worst pain was when I was summiting Mt. Whitney 7/19/23 at 14,500ft. I have a high activity level and this type of excursion is a regular thing for me. Dr. Taylor responded to my email stating he did not believe he did anything wrong and refused to assist me in any way to address my emergency room costs.
